    JK Inverter BMS JK-PB2A16S-20P

I just ran 2 wires rather than running a larger lug. It's a little grainy because I had to zoom so much but gives you an idea.

    Sol-ark 15k Parallel Battery Banks

I didn't think that was right then I saw this from the manual: 2. Multi-Terminal Installation The two battery input terminals of the 15K-2P-N will parallel batteries internally to ensure a common connection between battery banks and simplify battery installations. If a charge / discharge rate of...

    Sol-ark 15k Parallel Battery Banks

I don't believe the breakers on the 15k are tied together. I accidentally ran with one off for a few days one time. It's better to have the batteries connected together. Hooking them up the way you want could island the batteries from each other. I used the Victron Lynx distributor and I...

Anyone Pass inspection with home built EVE 280AH batteries and JK200ABMS on shelf next to Sol-Ark inverter?

I have a similar install but thankfully don't have inspections. I had to submit the info to the poco to get approval to sell back and they accepted it. (Not sure how much that's worth.) My shelf is fully enclosed however. I was working on adding the 2 extra batteries in the white cases in...

What would your life be like without the grid?

I've only been operational since May but with a little management, I think I could live offgrid. Hot water only on sunny days after the batteries are charged, etc. We have well water so I'm not concerned there. Outside of actual power, as many others have stated, other people is what would...

Unknown sensors(?) and wires for PV connections in newest Sol-Ark 15K

Is that something that existing owners of 15ks can/should look at adding?

Newbie planning a large system. Advice? Criticism? Thoughts?

For the batteries, you want them all connected to both inverters. (Especially if you run them in parallel.) You'd just wire the inverters to the same bus as the batteries. You could do something like run 2 large wires (4/0) down to a smaller bus and hook the inverters to that. The rule of...

    Remote monitoring and hotspots

Starlink does broadcast wifi like a standard router. The new Gen 3 devices even include ethernet ports now so you can add your own hardware. It will have the same limitations as the router you listed earlier. (I have a family member that has starlink and it works well. We also use it for...

    Remote monitoring and hotspots

I'm not personally a fan of mounting hardware like that outside unless it's 100% rated for outdoor use. I rather mount the hardware inside and run antennas out as they're easier to replace than the core hardware. Sounds like your initial needs are pretty basic and that device will work well.

    Remote monitoring and hotspots

I watched part of the video and understand what they did. They have a fairly large setup but they have a big area to cover. I run UniFi hardware at my house and I like how it works. I've helped others run it as well and it has had its share of problems but is pretty stable. To help you more...

    Remote monitoring and hotspots

It will have a charge if it's cellular, some just bill you yearly for it. Depending on what you need, it might not be that bad. I haven't watched that video yet but what you're talking about is basically the start of a network. You can build it one block at a time and extend it as your...

    Remote monitoring and hotspots

If it were me, I'd put a small hole in the container and route the antenna out side then keep the unit inside. Unless you're looking for wifi coverage around the container. That way you get all the signal and keep the hardware nice and dry. They make extension cables for the type of connector...

    JK InverterBMS Panel Drawing

I've got one I modified for a 3d printer. Is that what you were looking for? I ended up having them laser cut and I liked them better. I realized that I had the label for the Charge a little incorrect. The last LED is for connection.

Battery choice for an off grid installation.

You can run as many in parallel as you'd like with the proper safety equipment. I went with self built LiFePO4 batteries and I'm happy with my decision but I'm running a 48v system.

They're built! I thought I had more terminals left to make the cables but had to order some so they're not connected yet. I'm very happy with the build quality but there was one minor with one of the circuit boards. The temp sensor threw an alarm. It turns out there was a small solder bridge...

FBI warns of Solar System Cyber Threat

I've been thinking more and more about this and it comes back to something I heard at a conference once... "Data is the new Oil." Our data, no matter how small it seems to be, is valuable to certain people. We've lowered the cost of certain products so low that they don't make sense to...

FBI warns of Solar System Cyber Threat

That's more of a prevention against insider threat/incompetence. If someone attacked their systems, got in and was able to send a shutdown till further notice type of command... That would be a bad day. Yay - I could live off grid, then you go down with the grid.

FBI warns of Solar System Cyber Threat

I've got a Sol-Ark and I use their cloud service. More than once I've considered disconnecting it. The fact that I can change the settings scares me but I'm also in the initial setup/monitoring phase. If you've seen their cloud migration, it's not been smooth and I got hit by a bug that...

Charging one 48V PV system from another

Wow, I don't know how I missed the 50m part. That's quite a distance. If you do a double conversion, you'll end up with power loss.

Charging one 48V PV system from another

You don't need the batteries to be the same make, as long as they're the same voltage, there should be no problem in connecting them together. During optimal times, each system will feed the the rest of the system it's power. Think of it this way, if you're drawing a load from a 2nd inverter...

Ill start by apologizing. I have the attention span of a a gnat.

From what I've seen, what you want isn't exactly possible. If you connect to your main panel, you will back feed a little power. The only way to avoid it is to feed a sub panel off your inverter. I was in a similar position as you. Tired of my $400/m electric bills. I ended up installing a...

My Sol-Ark App has been disappointing....

My numbers still aren't right. Prior to the change over, PVPro and Solar Assistant were in lock step. The E-Today and Generation purpose seem to be the most out of line. It'll be fine then refresh later and use completely incorrect values. System work mode is still broken too: I've got...

Is there a DIY Solar for dummies?

There are a ton of resources out there. You said you know nothing of electrical and solar but didn't mention any of your other skills. I just went through the same thing but I also re-wired my house when I remodeled so I didn't find it challenging. The basics are the same but there are many...

I thought I posted a pic with my splice box and didn't see one. Here's what I have for the RS485/CAN. It's just a surface mount CAT5e with 2 keystones, each wired with the proper pins so I could use the cables that were included.

Thank you! It's been a lot of fun doing all this. 1. Extremely easy - configured the JK and got it communicating with the others, connected it to the Sol-Ark, enabled sol-ark battery coms. 2. From what I've seen you can have a max of 16. Each JK connects to the next in a daisy chain...

    Adding to existing 15K

Why not just add another 15k in parallel and be done with it? Then you can use all your battery and solar together. Plus it will double what you could output at any given time. I built a system similar to yours and am already considering phase 2 which I will do exactly that. (Add another 15k...

Whole home wiring for backup - Route grid input into Sol-Ark/Lux or line-side and into panel breaker?

I'd say that's a no go. If you had a separate panel just for those load, yes. Otherwise you'll be bridging the two connections together. Sol-Ark supports a sub panel that is powered off the load side then can back-feed on the grid side using the CT's as a way to measure how much needs to be...

    Proper Service Disconnect

I'm not sure what SLD means... Here's a pic of the meter area. My hope was to find something that I could put to the left of the meter and run from the meter box to the ATS and just tuck it in nicely. I just measured and it's only about 13.5" to the edge of the brick. So far everything I'm...

    Proper Service Disconnect

I'd rather just leave the ATS in place, I've already got everything wired in and working well. Plus I like the idea of having the ATS to fully isolate the generator from the grid. My generator is a 24k so I have to hook it to the grid side anyway. It's configured to be controlled by the...
