Fuse problems. With 48 v lynx distributor

A MEGA fuse is 50.8mm center to center. An ANL fuse is about 61.7mm. So it would be too long

    Insulation Stripper?

Yeah from the photos that were posted earlier of the dewalt version it looks like that’s exactly what they did. They simply could’ve made an adapter like the dewalt and then you could use and drill. The Milwaukee version does have its pros though being more low profile if you’re working in...

PV stripper and 8awg crimper, success!

That’s how I felt too, for the extra thick and tough insulation these strippers are great. Yes they have connectors as well, I’m using the Staubli MC4 connectors.

    Insulation Stripper?

It was too easy, cut through it like butter, no exaggeration. Agreed on the price though. It did include a battery which I didn’t need but always nice to have more. However, I did get a good deal on sale where it was “only” $350. Still a lot but compared to $500… it’s a great deal from that...

    Where to buy 2/0 wire?

I just purchased some Ancor 2/0 wire, if you want some tinned and fine-strand wire that’s your best bet! If you want great wire fine strand and bare copper get some welding cable. Any larger I like fine strand since it will help with flexibility

    Insulation Stripper?

earlier in this thread @HRTKD mentioned a cable stripper by Dewalt. I'm already very much into the Milwaukee battery ecosystem so I purchased their version of a battery powered cable stripper. (Part #: 2935X-21) I just tested it for the first time today and first try, it just worked! perfectly...

Schematic of 24v/12v off-grid solar system (in progress, help needed)

You should fuse the input side. What Maddy was saying is the the 40a "rating" is based on a 12V output. That's why his fuse in his diagram on the input side is only 30a because that is 24v incoming which is sufficient. In your example you would not need a fuse on the output side because your...

2 weeks of top balancing finally complete! 16 280ah cells

Hey sorry I was out of town all week. No negative effect but maybe some slight expansion which is to be expected at full charge. If you've seen any of Will's recent vids on the bloating he saw on the 320ah cells, this was NOTHING like that. a temporary setup would be nice, but not required I...

Custom Shunt, combining Batrium + Victron Lynx

Back at it again with some more testing. I tried really hard with Batrium again but think I reached the end of the ‘custom calibration’ battle. So that’s not an option any longer. So now it’s up to me to adjust the values from a physical connection standpoint. Since it’s based on resistance...

PV stripper and 8awg crimper, success!

They were $125 for the stripper and $330 for the crimp tool with die. both the stripper and the crimp handles both have quite the multitude of dies to choose from depending on your specific needs and a lot of solar specific options as well. Links below where I purchased mine from, very...

PV stripper and 8awg crimper, success!

I’m a big fan of tools that just work, and using a razor blade for the thick insulation on PV wire wasn’t an option. i came across these tools from Rennsteig (I love me some good German tools) and just tested them for the first time today and they’re perfect! The stripper is specifically for...

Custom Shunt, combining Batrium + Victron Lynx

Agreed, it's a shunt, nothing fancy going on there haha. since its based off a "known" resistance value all I'd need is a field to input that value and done.

Custom Shunt, combining Batrium + Victron Lynx

In what regard? If you mean the resistance of each, no I haven't. But I was actually going to today, although I know they will be different as one is a 1000a/50mv and the other is a 500a/50mv, but even if they were both 1000a/50mv shunts I'd imagine they'd have a slight difference as well. If...

Custom Shunt, combining Batrium + Victron Lynx

I'm here to help  Another update, it's not going well with Batrium. We've now exchanged a few emails and they are saying they don't want to do the re-calibration service as it's not something they really do anymore. They did it previously when they didn't offer multiple shunt options...

Fuse problems. With 48 v lynx distributor

They are definitely out there, admittedly hard to find but they exist, and that's step 1 haha You can actually get them up to 500A AFAIK https://www.littelfuse.com/products/fuses/automotive-passenger-car/high-current-fuses/mega-70v-sf51/0998400.aspx

Schematic of 24v/12v off-grid solar system (in progress, help needed)

@satanas I don't think anyone mentioned this yet but your "250v Breaker" between your panels and SCC should be rated to the proper amps. Is 10.64 your total amps from all your panels? You're probably OK with about a 20a breaker but depends on your panel specs. Just want to make sure you choose...

Custom Shunt, combining Batrium + Victron Lynx

I'm still waiting to hear from Batrium on a couple more questions regarding having them calibrate it to a different shunt but in the meantime I wasn't completely satisfied with the standoffs I had so I customized them and it's much better now. First I cut the standoff in half to make it...

New Victron Multiplus-II 12/3000/120-50 designed specifically for RVs with 30A/50A input flexibility available MARCH 2021

I will! and Yes I as well need to determine final location. I'm almost certain I'm going to put it in the front bay near the generator and rip the existing lead acid/agm or whatever batteries out of there. All of mine going in a Momentum 381M. good thinking, and free padding too! haha

Custom Shunt, combining Batrium + Victron Lynx

well, tonight I learned a lot and also hit a somewhat similar roadblock but now more difficult to "fix" by myself. I connected my Batrium Shuntmon, in it's normal setup as I received it from Batrium, in series with the Victron Lynx Shunt. I put a charge from the Inverter from 10 to 20 amps and...

New Victron Multiplus-II 12/3000/120-50 designed specifically for RVs with 30A/50A input flexibility available MARCH 2021

I most definitely am, I'll have some fun custom parts to it as well :) I now have pretty much all the main components, need to order a little wire, build a battery compression case, decide how I want to mount the solar panels (exact position has been decided, but I want tilt function), then I...

Custom Shunt, combining Batrium + Victron Lynx

you bring up a good point in that at the end of the day, when comparing these, I'm wondering what an acceptable level of difference would/should be. I need to decide that so I know when to stop and when close enough is good enough haha. I haven't ran any real load on this yet only a few devices...

Custom Shunt, combining Batrium + Victron Lynx

Ok so I did some further basic testing last night since I didn't want to wait for the little M5 standoffs I ordered (which actually just arrived a couple hours ago). Initial tests were "OK" but between the Batrium and the Victron they were far enough off to where I will need to spend more time...

I have my RV so I'm one step ahead of ya ;) Buuuut I'm still testing a few things so I haven't installed it yet. So I'm really not that far ahead haha. I'm hoping within the next month I can get all the pieces finalized. Boondocking here I come! Yes correct, I made sure to mention that I...

New Victron Multiplus-II 12/3000/120-50 designed specifically for RVs with 30A/50A input flexibility available MARCH 2021

I agree, and had been waiting forever for the 2x120 model and I know have one, finally! haha But the previous MPII's that have been out already that were 24v and 48v were not for the U.S market as they were 230v. The 48V model I showed above is for the U.S market, 120V and 60hz. I could be...

did you see the photo I attached? it's the specs for a U.S. 48V version MultiPlus II. I pulled it straight from Victron's website. so that leads me to believe that the 48V is actually available now :)

Custom Shunt, combining Batrium + Victron Lynx

Agreed, on both counts haha Oh nice, somewhat similar! why did you go with the 1000a shunts? I think for the majority of us a 500a is sufficient, and more common. Good to know your too shunts stay close to each other. I definitely don't expect them to be exact but as long as it's close enough...

Custom Shunt, combining Batrium + Victron Lynx

Before you say it, I know there are MUCH cheaper, and easier, ways to do this, and ways to do this without using the Victron Lynx Shunt entirely... but that wouldn't be as fun :) I'm doing this purely because I want to and for aesthetics. So keep that in mind as you read. I'm sure I'm the only...

New Victron Multiplus-II 12/3000/120-50 designed specifically for RVs with 30A/50A input flexibility available MARCH 2021

I thought they had a 48V released as well just not 24? I haven’t looked deep in the details but it does say 120v 60hz so it’s U.S… buuut it doesn’t have the same 2x120 that the 12v version says, it does say 50amp though Maybe someone already brought this up and clarified if it’s similar to the...

    16 cell 280ah 12v config, final answer?

Yeah the general options @HRTKD mentioned above would be your best bet. The Batrium is very flexible and can handle any config but yes it’s expensive and lead times from Australia are long, but that’s mostly due to supply chain issues I believe which is everything right now. My Batrium monitors...

Yup pretty much spot on with timing even though I was secretly thinking “well maybe mine came extra charged and it’ll only take a week” haha wishful thinking. I never did get a common capacity tester, I was going too but never did. Since my inverter can only be hardwired directly to the...
