Electric water heater with timer and thermostatic mixing valve

My hot water heater always runs on the solar. The only downside is if there are heavy clouds. If I notice this in the morning I will switch the timer off and try the next day since the tank has enough hot water for 2 days.

Electric water heater with timer and thermostatic mixing valve

I have a few comments about using a hot water heater with 180 degree thermostat, a mechanical timer, and a mixing valve. The things I have changed since originally hooking it up. I put scald guards on the showers so the kids don't accidentally get hurt if something goes wrong. I originally...

Electric water heater with timer and thermostatic mixing valve

This has worked better than I could imagine. I get paid very little for the solar I push onto the grid, so this maximizes my solar power usage and benefits me, not the power company. The power bill stats told me that the hot water heater was 19% of my power bill, but the power bill went down...

I like the flexible plugs. I was considering some wind power, but the amount of energy for the effort doesn't seem very good.

System planning for an AC coupled Grid tied system

I was looking at the sol-ark 12k, but I would need 2 of them and 14,000 is a little much for me. I have a quote for 2 SUN-8K-SG01LP1-US/EU for around $4000 delivered I think service and warranty will be a hassell if needed I have a quote for 2 Sunny Island 6048-US-10 inverters for around $4000...

Solar Panel Source for 25kw ground mount system??

I have ordered from Fred480v on ebay. The panels I purchased were 320 Watt Grade B. Every panel worked and produced 100% power. They were stacked and packaged properly too. Looks like he has some deals right now.

Another check with the utility. In my area, you can't push that much to the grid unless you are a business.

Electric water heater with timer and thermostatic mixing valve

So here is my current hot water usage per day with the timer. Here is what it was before doing the timer Seems like my total power usage from the hot water heater has gone down a good bit And just for fun here is total power usage overlapped with solar per day.

You are correct, that would be amperage/voltage on the solar side of the MPPT, not out of the MPPT.

    Please Help - System Basics

I usually try to get as many panels in series to lower the amperage. That allows me to use smaller wiring. For the system you are building, that isn't a big deal. I also know that there are some integrated charge controller/inverters on amazon. I don't know anything about them, but some of...

    Please Help - System Basics

Check out this page to show you series vs parallel panel wiring. Simply enter the info for your panels. If you wire 4 panels in series, you will need a charge controller that can handle 162.8V and 10.1 amps If you wire 4 panels in parallel, you will need a charge controller that can handle...

Electric water heater with timer and thermostatic mixing valve

I have one bidirectional meter. It seems very simple. I can look at it and it tells me the current KWh usage and after a few seconds, it tells me the total sent to the grid.

Electric water heater with timer and thermostatic mixing valve

It would be nice to only heat water with the 180F thermostat when there was PV available. I could use a stepped curve for the 180F thermostat. maybe power the 180F element with 120VAC at 8:30 a.m. and then step up to 240VAC at 10:30 then step down to 120VAC at 3:00p.m. and power off the 180F...

System planning for an AC coupled Grid tied system

The Encharge and Tesla power wall are probably not a good fit for me. I think you have to have enphase inverters for the Encharge? and I already have a good bit of battery storage. I am trying to move away from Lithium Ion anyway.

Electric water heater with timer and thermostatic mixing valve

As noted, I am using the 240VAC one The timer is to use the hot water heater during max PV. I have lots of PV. The theory being that I heat the water only during the middle of the day when I have extra free power. Then I hope the hot water stays above 120F before the next day. If it goes...

Electric water heater with timer and thermostatic mixing valve

Would this honeywell mixing valve and this mechanical timer work? I have a 50 gallon commercial water with dual 180F 2500Watt thermostats. It is the #1 power user in my home. Rewire the dual thermostats individually and connect the mechanical timer to 1 element. Set the thermostat for the...

    Help please wire sizing

I would guess that there is no problem using larger wire than required. Now practically, I don't do it because large wire is harder to handle and if you are fitting the wire into terminals, it may not fit, I am not a fan of shaving down a wire to get it to fit into the terminal. Not to mention...

    Are we getting 'trolled'?

I am new here, but I don't think you guys are getting trolled. More power instability and government instability makes people look around at where they are vulnerable. It seems logical that people would like to have more reliable power systems that they are in charge of. I know more than most...

    Sense Energy Monitor

Just an FYI: I found the appliance identification on the Sense very useful. After a while, you can click on the appliance and see the power usage over time. You can also get monthly reports that show your power usage by appliance and the percent of your power bill each appliance consumed.
