Seeking advice on best way to start with new RV

I don't see an issue as long as it's close on Voc and Isc. That is a good controller and will work great with 300-400W of panels. What panel are you looking at adding? I looked at some 150W-200W panels on Amazon and pretty much any of them would work fine with your current panel.

Multiplus 3000/24 buzzing while charging even at low current

I'll have to check if I have that update. I doubt that I do and I forgot to do a firmware update when I changed the charger settings. Thank you!

Multiplus 3000/24 buzzing while charging even at low current

My brand new MPII sounds just like that. Louder when under heavy load. I have it mounted weird and can't go vertical. It's buried in the basement of my RV so it isn't a bother inside but would be if it were in our living space.

New Victron Multiplus-II 12/3000/120-50 designed specifically for RVs with 30A/50A input flexibility available MARCH 2021

Here's my wiring diagram: And a pic of the inverter installed: So simple. The second wire from the top is AC in from my power reel. I just used the existing 6/3 Romex and cut in a 50A breaker then to AC in. Then I just hooked up the other end that goes to the power panel to AC1 out...

New Victron Multiplus-II 12/3000/120-50 designed specifically for RVs with 30A/50A input flexibility available MARCH 2021

The MPII is smart. When it senses a single phase input (30A RV input), it ties L1 and L2 together inside the inverter. That's what makes it awesome for RV's. This also applies to your second question. I don't know of any other inverter that can pass 50A @ 2 phases through with the internal...

    Inverter input breaker question

I would not use that breaker. Cheap crap that is not trustworthy. I used a Blue Sea 250A (model 7270) breaker before I went to a bigger system.

New Victron Multiplus-II 12/3000/120-50 designed specifically for RVs with 30A/50A input flexibility available MARCH 2021

The best thing about the new MPII 12/3000/120x2 is how easy it is to hook into a 50A RV system. The 50A transfer switch and 2 phase pass through make it so simple even I could do it. That and the power assist feature are the cat's meow. As far as I know, there isn't anything else like it on...

It was brand new out of the box so no cleaning was done. Now that the nut is torqued properly, everything stays cool.

    Inverter ground wire size

I can understand a safety ground for anything with PV voltages. Those can get pretty high with high amps. But anything running 12V doesn't need a case ground for electrical shock safety. IMHO. And never saw a code that requires case ground for a strictly 12V gadget. But I am not an...

    Multiplus wire size

Yup, you need 4/0 from the battery to the bus. And a 400A type T fuse. Here's what mine looks like: This is connected to a Multiplus II 12/3000 on the other side of the right wall.

    Multiplus wire size

Yes. I think. Depends. What size Multiplus?
  12. C

    Inverter ground wire size

The chassis ground on an inverter is for the AC side. Nothing in my camper that is DC only has a dedicated chassis ground. That’s why I think the chassis ground for my inverter should be the same size as the AC feeding it.

    Solving problems, optimizing solutions

A group 27 dual purpose battery will hold a whopping 80Ah of power at full charge. Usable will be more like 40Ah if you got to 50% depth of discharge (DOD). You may be able to get away with 80% DOD, so 64Ah of usable power. That isn't much. So starting with charging is probably going to end...

    Inverter ground wire size

I have asked about the chassis ground wire from an inverter on several fora. There isn't a clear answer other than to go with what the manual says. Great. My Xantrex manual said 2 things: 1. 8 ga conductor 2. No smaller than one size smaller than the main DC wires, which would be 1/0 in my...

Battery needed for 1200 watt inverter

I have pulled 143A from a single SOK battery (286 from a pair). So have others. To be safe, I would stick to 1,200W. That would be about 115A continuous @ 85% efficiency. You pick the Ah you need for your power needs.

    Inverter ground wire size

This seems pretty clear from your manual:

What is normal behavior for an inverter charger?

Victron shunt charged voltage should be 13.6V
  21. C

What is normal behavior for an inverter charger?

This is it. If the SCC sees 13.6V at the battery, it won't charge anything. That is 100% SOC for most SCC Li charge profiles. Also, if your shunt is showing 86% SOC @ 13.6V, it is not synced properly. My shunt is out of sync right now and it always shows 100%. I haven't been to 100% SOC...

Just finished install of MultiPlus II, what a great box

Finished cleaning up my install. I ended up removing everything including the batteries and painting the whole compartment with high temp paint. I also added Lynn wool behind the components. Should be all set until I decide to change something else.

    100ah vs. 200ah

Agree. My 3k inverter pushes my 2x12vx206Ah SOKs pretty hard. I'd be much better off with 3 or 4. Where does it end?
  24. C

    100ah vs. 200ah

Agree with this. I went with a single 200Ah but could not get enough amps out of it to run a 2k inverter. So I had to buy another 200Ah battery. Not the end of the world but expensive.

    Victron chargers cooperate?

Don't worry about the SOK limit of .25C. That is some weird recommendation that SOK puts out there for some reason. The SOK BMS will handle .5C charging and 1C discharge. Not sure how long it will hold up, but this has been tested to work. I have personally put 70A into my SOK 206 and pulled...

Free! 12V to 5V converter to make Victron Lynx distributor LED lights work

I had to buy 4 of these and only need one. They can be used to make an adaptor that allows you to use the Lynx Distributor LEDs without a fancy BMS or shunt. There's a video online for how to do it: PM me your address and I will put one in an envelope and mail it to you...

    Convert from FLA to LiFePo

Even if you keep an FLA only converter/charger that bulks @ 13.6V, you can still just drop in a LiFePO4 with a good BMS. The BMS does all the work. Sure, it's better to have LiFePO4 specific parameters from all chargers, but not required.

Just finished install of MultiPlus II, what a great box

On the SOK Facebook page, they say that if you call SOK, they will tell you the BMS can handle over 130A. There are several tests running at 150A continuous. I gotta say, that is a LOT of amps. I really don't see a reason to pull that many. Fireplace would never be on when on batteries...

Fuse holder nut was glowing RED!

Hadn't thought of using a thermal camera. Just ordered a Klein that got good reviews on Amazon. FLIR is better but this Klein should work. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089QW8R9S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Fuse holder nut was glowing RED!

I installed my Lynx distributor today and decided to replace my Blue Sea 250A circuit breaker with a 400A class T fuse. The class T fuse holder is from Blue Sea Systems and the fuse is a LittleFuse 400A class T. Got it all hooked up and tested DC only, Solar and low power AC. All worked...

Just finished install of MultiPlus II, what a great box

Just as an update, I finished redoing my control center. Got rid of the 250A breaker and went with a T400A fuse and 600A cutoff switch. Works well. Did another test and was pulling 2527W from the inverter. The LED was showing overload, so I didn't let it run for long. At least I know my two...

Wiring Lynx Distributor to MultiPlus II

Just finished installing the Lynx distributor. Still have to do the LED mod (waiting for the 5v converter to come in). Really like how it turned out. I thought $205 was expensive for a distribution bar, but I priced out 2x400A Blue Sea Systems bars with covers and they are $80 each. And I...
