    Amazon scam

Amazon is not vetting their suppliers very well, then are not nice to deal with as a supplier. They have been giving bigger bonuses to new hires, than their 20 year vets, so there are a lot of ticked off employees. Most of Amazon’s products are just a bunch of junk from China, marked up 10-100X...

Proof! 310AH and 320AH Cells being sold on Alibaba, AliExpress, Amazon and Ebay are not what they say.

You and a few others on here like to victim blame don’t you? Nobody but Will and you guys could possibly have enough intelligence to test cells and manufacture their own batteries.

How to charge a 48V Battery Bank (for Solar efficiency) with an alternator???

I have 1000W PV, MS 250 SCC, Magnum 4024 Inverter, 24V (28V) 50A aircraft alternator, 9000Btu Mini Split HP on my Std Chevy Express Van. Just stop by your local airport. Plenty of “Ford” or “Delco Remy” alternators with burnt up stators. Pilots love draining the battery while trying to start the...

    Chargery 16T decalibrated?

If you’ve verified with two meters, then I believe you. I use about 15 different calibrated and uncalibrated meters daily. I’ve never seen that much variation (0.313V). Ensure ALL connections are good. Contact the manufacturer. They will take care of you.

About to get ripped off by a AliExpress

If you buy from two sellers on Alibaba, you will have very few problems. Amy at Shenzhen Luyuan or Hayley at Dongguan Lightning. Otherwise good luck on AliExpress, where scheisters sell their grade B and G (for garbage) cells.

    Plug in soft starts

From my experience a 5 ton a/c or hp with a standard PSC compressor needs 6 ga wiring from panel to reduce voltage drop during running and help start the compressor faster during inrush which is around 110-130 Amps. The soft starts work great on start up to reduce the dimming of lights...

    Plug in soft starts

50A breaker is fine, but I would recommend 6 ga all the way from your panel to the contactor at least. Use that 8 ga on something else. Then inspect terminals and wires from contactor to compressor. Replace with larger wire size and better quality terminals if you notice any signs of...

    Plug in soft starts

I’ve used both of them. They both work the same and do well. I also use a Copeland version. But those two that you noted or just fine I would get whichever one I could get. My last ones took 6-8 weeks. And you can always get your local HVAC guy like me to install it for you. Testing inrush amps...

    Plug in soft starts

Then they will need to use a 120V soft start hard wired in. It’s for the compressor. A plug n play device won’t work because the electronics/controls/dc brushless fan motors, etc won’t like being soft started.

    Plug in soft starts

If you want a soft starter on high starting load equipment like air compressors, heat pumps, window bangers, RV air conditioners...they need hard wired in. I recommend MicroAir from HutchMountain. That cheap device mentioned above on eBay is not a true soft starter. That’s why it’s half the...

    Lighting?

It’s typical packaging/labeling/instructions from 12000 miles away. The label on those two lights that I received from Amazon had the block marked “100-240V”. The outside of box said “12-60V”. The poor instructions said “12V”. No AC or DC mentioned, but I checked with seller and they said that...

    Lighting?

Amazon has a 12-60VDC 50W LED flood light. I tested it from 12-60VDC on my power supply. 0.8 A at 56V and 1.5A at 28V. Great for power shed. Plenty of 12-48VDC cooling fans too.

My iPhone level tool that came on it. Verified accuracy, it’s close enough and always in my left front pocket. 53 deg for me at 38 deg latitude. Best for running my 3 heat pumps in the winter. Still need to install water heater hp and dryer hp.

Wind Turbine Blades Can’t Be Recycled, So They’re Piling Up in Landfills

The blades need ss or titanium leading edge cuffs on the outer 1/3rd of blades. Yeah, our county dumps coal ash/clinkers on the snowy roads. Mercury anyone? I’ll take my solar and wind power anyday.

Help designing a system to get my house off grid

First off-grid solar design. Am I missing anything?

I use 4/0, 300A Class T Fuse/Fuse Blocks or a 250 A DC Double Pole Breaker for my 24V 3,000 and 4,000 Watt inverters. Spend the money, stay cool, stay safe. Or if derating to 2500 Watts, I’d use a 200A Class T with 2/0. On the battery, I’d do one 8S configuration with a Daly 24V 250 or 300A...

Importance of having positive or negative cable running parallel to the series cabling behind the panels

I try to do this with all of my DC circuits. I use cushioned clamps, tie wraps, electrical tape or shrink tubing. It is not always possible, but can reduce interference and makes for easier troubleshooting. In an aluminum aircraft, the structure is the negative. Much lighter, but does produce...

Atorch DT24P: High current cell/load capacity tester - Has anyone got or used one of these?

Mine works fine. Very accurate. Use the rear power input, make sure power supply is rated for minimum 1 amp or more at 12VDC, otherwise your load amps will be limited. 20 amps is max on a 3.2V cell, not 10. Use 10 ga wire, keep as short as possible. No alligator clips. Use high quality 1/4” 10ga...

Socket head dropped and sparked, is this a short?

I bought 1000V insulated ratchet, extension, 10mm socket and 10mm nut driver on Amaz. They are worth it! Especially after blowing molten metal across the dining room during a power outage at 3 AM. I found out real quick that these weren’t your standard, tame, high IR, little lead acid battery!

Will this off grid system work?

Jan-Feb runs 70-80 kWh per day due to heat pumps, more lighting needed and not drying the clothes on the line. This is why my panels are going to be at 53 deg and I’m at 38 deg Lat. When you have a family, heating water with electric is expensive. I am going to engineer and install my own heat...

Understand, those high SEER numbers are nothing but sales hype. I sell, replace, install and test HVAC systems every single day. Mini splits are great for applications where a standard system with ductwork can’t be installed. They will not last as long, cost more to repair, harder to find a...
