I have been taking all the on demand classes available at no cost. Also they recently updated the training to include their latest products; IQ8 pv inverter, IQ battery 3T and 10T, combiner 4, and IQ Controller 2. The new battery is the same energy and power but a different form factor. @7.4” it...

Update 9/24/2001 We are a year and a half into the 2kw pv install. We initially installed a system that met roughly half of our consumption needs. First year we: Produced 3400kWh Consumed 6600kWh (consumption metering is awesome) Consumption metering allowed us to see that our ac system...

    An Enphase Ensemble Installation

Thanks for the discussion. The inverter from the grid inverter would be the master inverter. It wouldn’t necessarily need a lot of kWh. Ensemble can be set to self consumption or whatever use case optimizes the system . When the grid inverter stops working the ensemble battery would provide the...

    An Enphase Ensemble Installation

Yo Svetz, was thinking about the best way to add a 3rd party battery/inverter to Ensemble to power a completely off-grid setup. Hypothesized that a big battery and split phase inverter would be best added on the incoming grid side of the enpower smart switch. What are your thoughts? Grid...

AC coupled battery supplying essential sub panel with Grid tied Micro inverter - Wiring question

If you want to DIY an Enphase Ensemble and Encharge system you will need to put yourself through the Enphase university program. It’s free and some parts are dense others short and simple. After the training you will need to follow a design review template. Full certification would involve...

I saw that note too about IQ8PV requiring enpower and an envoy. Makes sense. For IQ8PV to function correctly it needs load control to protect larger loads.

This is a blog post by Enphase detailing Power Start. A feature enabling the starting of high inrush current loads. Scroll down to view a chart detailing how many batteries are typically required to power certain loads and the accompanying soft starter that will help decrease initial start up load.

Thanks again for your insights. Apologies if you already covered this... In off-grid mode: How well does enpower transition between solar and battery? What is the max load you have seen run by your solar-only in relation to its nameplate (AC) capacity? I’m aware that environmental...

    An Enphase Ensemble Installation

So the solar is curtailed when batteries are full, there is less load than solar is producing, and you are off-grid. Do I have that right? If you’re on-grid the power would be sent back to the grid with no need to curtail. So ideally it’s like an EV. You don’t want to leave home with a full...

Thanks for all the updates. Haven’t gotten 100% caught up with the thread but excited to hear about all your experiences. You must have been on the waiting list with deposit/pre-order months ago. Surprised the installer allowed the AC to be on the backup circuit! U must have signed a waiver...

Hi, CED Greentech was the distributor I worked with. Currently, Tesla is offering the lowest installed cost of solar. Not sure if they are in all states though. What i don’t like about Tesla is their preferred hardware is a string inverter. I am a die hard Enphase fan. $1.49 Per watt installed...

Taking Ensemble sizing webinar as i type. Saw this interesting question and answer. It makes a strong argument for waiting for IQ8 on the roof. "Q: Can you install more than 1.5x PV / Batery with the system automaticaly curtailing the PV amount above the 1.5x factor? If not, then with the PV...

Great recap Svetz. I haven’t made it through all the videos yet but so far i was disappointed to hear I’ll need the cell modem. The whole system seems like a sharp departure from the simplicity of past enphase products. However, i think they’ve put in the hard work and after it’s installed you...

    Battery-less backup with Grid-Tie

Not exactly. IQ8 Will only be shipping inside the Encharge battery. OP was looking for battery-less backup with grid-tie.
  31. W

I am looking at installing a small grid tie system that can be expanded later.

The IQ series uses the IQ Cableing which has two wires inside. Ground will need to be ran to the array. But no there is not a neutral sent to the array from the electric panel.

    Battery-less backup with Grid-Tie

I’m sorry this will not help those looking for an immediate “battery-less” system but eventually will be exactly what your asking for. Ensemble and IQ8 for solar. Not to be confused with Ensemble 1.0 with IQ8 powered batteries.

I am looking at installing a small grid tie system that can be expanded later.

Everything in the system will need to be sized for the future fully populated string of panels/inverters. Very easy to add on to a microinverter system; provided you don’t exceed the number of micros allowed on one 20 amp circuit, and the inverters are of the same generation (meaning only one...
