    New PowerMax Lithium Series Converter/Chargers

Oh - max charging…I think 25-50 is adequate. The Victron 25 looks interesting - and no fan!

    New PowerMax Lithium Series Converter/Chargers

The orion is a 18A. I was going to skip it, but thought it might be handy driving at night or for rainy days. I don’t really have a target. Our max daily is about 80-100Ah if the furnace runs. I have 600w of solar panels - 430 flat on the roof and 160 portable. I would like to be able to charge...

How 'bout a Samlex 12V charger? https://www.donrowe.com/Samlex-SEC-1230UL-p/sec-1230ul.htm I just need a 120-12v charging source for shorepower and generator. It runs when I plug in or start the generator. Would that work for me? Would I be happy with it?

    New PowerMax Lithium Series Converter/Chargers

Makes sense. I wasn't doubting the voltage recommendations. What makes the powermax chargers bottom of the pile? In what way do they fail? I'm curious now...if they're so bad why did you buy two more of them?? LOL I was hoping to make this work because I inquired multiple times here about...

    New PowerMax Lithium Series Converter/Chargers

That's what I did with the Orion - 13.5 fixed voltage, or 3.375 per cell. That way I don't have to worry about it when driving, regardless of what else is going on. It will charge the house pack to full without overcharging it. Is 13.4V a safer setting? For the powermax, I set fixed at 14.4 for...

    Looking for a Victron supplier

InvertersRus.com seems to carry the full line, at discounted prices. I suspect Victron has 'minimum advertised pricing' (MAP) as all sellers seem to have the same prices. They sell from their own site, as well as on amazon and ebay. I got a couple of things from them over the past couple of...

What material to use in between prismatic cells

Ordered white cutting board mats here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334131406675?var=543137963324 Unfortunately they didn't arrive in time - I wanted to get my pack built, so I used VHB tape. Super happy with how it worked out. Someone mentioned they thought the 3M tape was too permanent, however a...

    New PowerMax Lithium Series Converter/Chargers

Powermax may well continue to trickle-charge - I did not get that far in testing. I never worried about this before, FLA's like to be kept peaked up. For lifepo I don't want it sitting on any kind of charge if it's fully charged, so I put the Powermax on a switched outlet. I guess I'll need...

    New PowerMax Lithium Series Converter/Chargers

When the battery voltage reaches the charge voltage setting on the charge source, the current stops flowing. It does not give an indication, it just stops charging. The Victron Orion works the same way - whatever you set the charge voltage at it charges till it reaches that, reducing current...

    New PowerMax Lithium Series Converter/Chargers

Smoke and mirrors. It's not even heavy enough to be a boat anchor. I am a little curious how long it would charge in the high state with a low battery charge level. I started out today at about 75% - all my cells were a little over 3.35. I am pleased with how close their voltage stays...

    New PowerMax Lithium Series Converter/Chargers

I think you'll find you can only adjust the fixed voltage setting. The 3-stage charging is pre-programed. I did some testing today with the PowerMax unit, got a watt-meter for the 120 outlet so I could see what it was doing. In the fixed-volt mode, set at 14.4, it puts out 53-54A and draws...

Uh, no. The design is fine, you work with what's there. Some of the welded studs have a shoulder like the grub-screw socket, and some don't. Some are flat. Coming in after the fact and grinding them down doesn't make sense to me. Some fuss about stud height, but you use them the way they are...

Very new Travel Trailer Off Grid Solar set up question...

4000 watt inverter? Perhaps you're trying to run air conditioning off your batteries? In simple terms, 4000 watts AC takes about 400Ah of battery. You would run your battery out in 15 minutes. Not to mention cabling to carry that kind of amperage. An LED TV draws about 65W AC - about 5Ah on...

Definitely go for the welded battery terminals if they are available. They are stronger and have a larger contact area for your cable terminals. The grub-screws should really be lock-tited in and never removed anyway. Repeated threading of a stainless screw into an aluminum socket will knacker...

    30 amp or 60 amp?

That table is likely from an older EPEver charge controller. I apologize for just grabbing one, thinking they're all the same. 30 amp or 60 amp?

How many panels wired how? Mounted tilted or flat? Do you ever see your SCC putting out the full 30 amps? You're likely not getting a full 30A from your panels. Your array size and controller size ratio is known as 'over-paneling' and it rather common. If your panel current goes over the...

Complete rebuild of a house - how would you power and heat/cool ?

Thread-jack warning... Pellet stoves are CONVENIENT. From what I've read about 1500lbs equals a cord of firewood. The big-box home stores sell 40lb bags for $3 +/-, so about the same cost as well. Most of them hold 40lbs of pellets and the fancier ones double that. Some you only need to fill...

That looks like global battery from ebay - Jim the seller? I nearly pulled the trigger on a couple of those - how do you like it/them? Connect Alligator Clips to Removable Battery Posts

If it were my battery I would install grub-screw posts permanently. Removing and replacing a screw post will eventually knacker the threads in the post. Then you can connect anything to the battery with a ring terminal.

Complete rebuild of a house - how would you power and heat/cool ?

Much more helpful than "A lot of bad information on this thread." Mounting a compressor unit (outdoor split unit) on a slab also works. It is WAY simpler, especially if the slab is already there. I tend to agree with not running lineset through a house. I had one leak at a welded connection...

Complete rebuild of a house - how would you power and heat/cool ?

I have no idea. Not even sure what you mean by a percentage of efficiency. What I do know is that PV systems are expensive, and the ROI verses modern traditional equipment on the grid, is a long payback. I intend to build an off-grid system to assist with power needs on my next place. Lots of...
