    $364 HQST 100ah Lifepo4...

It's interesting that the page for that says "DO NOT string this battery in series. It is made ONLY for parallel connections using identical batteries" while the one for the similarly priced Docan battery says series only, not parallel. Why would some support series only while others support...

Can I use my Manual Transfer Switch Home Backup Setup for Solar Backup as well?

I too have a 50A L14-50P inlet connected with an interlock to my single circuit breaker panel and an ICE generator to power it for backup during power outages. My grid power prices are low enough, around $0.10 per kWh that solar to replace grid power has a very long payback time, over 10 years...

Can I use my Manual Transfer Switch Home Backup Setup for Solar Backup as well?

The inverter (and generator) manufacturers don't seem to do a good job, that I have seen, documenting how their inverters work. Do they do split phase 60v/60v? Do they have a bonded neutral? I see recommendations on inverters generally, but not recommendations specifically for inverters used...

Can I use my Manual Transfer Switch Home Backup Setup for Solar Backup as well?

I think whether you have an interlock or a "regular" or at least a manual transfer switch, you would have the same issue using solar full time. You would have to mechanically switch either the whole panel with the interlock or those (critical) circuits with the manual transfer switch. With a...

Can I use my Manual Transfer Switch Home Backup Setup for Solar Backup as well?

I concur. Because solar has high fixed and low marginal costs while ICE generators have the opposite, low fixed and high marginal (fuel) costs, ideally you would use solar all the time, with the grid. As I understand it, an issue is that grid tied solar is even more expensive due to the need for...

Can I use my Manual Transfer Switch Home Backup Setup for Solar Backup as well?

This sounds more like an interlock than a manual transfer switch. Also, most solar generators seem to be single 120v and your L14 inlet is 240v split phase. You would need an adapter that bridges both legs to get 120v on both halves of the service and that is only safe without shared neutrals.

    All-in-one or separate components

Isn't there a risk of overloading the neutral by having both legs running at the same phase?

    24v milk crate

    24v milk crate

Thank you for the link. I'm thinking of making the crate with a 24v DC-240v AC split phase inverter, so I can use the 120v or connect it to my (US NA 240v split phase) service panel, through a properly isolated generator inlet and panel interlock (or transfer switch) of course. There is a big...

    24v milk crate

https://www.mobile-solarpower.com/640wh-milk-crate-system.html Could someone follow this milk crate example for a 24v battery system, with a 24v inverter and the drok AC charger power supply set to 28.8v? When would you use the basic fixed voltage AC charger power supply like here and when...

    Which LifePo 100 AH battery?

I've read that some (LiFePO4) batteries cannot be used in series because the BMS needs to support it and not all do, described here. Renogy says: https://watts247.com/product-category/batteries/, and probably others, have a EQ-24/2 24V Battery Balancer, balances 2 x 12V batteries in series...

    Doncan Technology/Powerwholesale.net LiFePO4 PnP batteries

Starting a new thread since https://diysolarforum.com/threads/our-new-go-to-lifepo4-vendor-09-20-21.28696/ was about DIY batteries at this supplier. (Please move the thread if appropriate.) Great resources here! I read the good reviews of the DIY battery cells at DONCAN warehouse (Doncan...

    Maximum open circuit voltage calculator

Do you mean a 20-25% safety margin based on the specified Voc at 25C or do you mean a 20-25% safety margin based on the calculated Voc (or F factor adjusted Voc) at the location's low temperature? For example, when I consider a panel with a specified Voc of 44.5 V and the adjusted Voc based on...
