    FET vs software

I'm going REC on my next van build (12v 16kwh) and I always recommend that route with larger systems. With large systems, I just don't understand why you wouldn't use something like REC that can talk with Victron but also have fail safes if CAN communication is down vs a dumb BMS.

    REC Pre-charge unit?

Be careful with the relay of the 712 as that can only support up to 1 amp of current. While the EV200 holding current is only 130 mA, it can have an inrush current of 3.8 amps. Maybe use a SolidSwitch 104 that can handle up to 4 amps: https://www.victronenergy.com/accessories/solidswitch-104

    REC Pre-charge unit?

My BMS is different. There is allow to charge, allow to discharge and master on/off. The master on/off has set points to open/close the contactor. This is in case the allow to charge or allow to discharge isn't acted upon (something fails or the wiring is disconnected). When the BMS is powered...

    BCS / BuyCheapSolar 10kwh LifepO4 pack for $2850

I purchased 10kw of solar panels from this guy. Decent prices and really easy to work with. However when I went to pick up my panels, it looks like everything he has is just stored outside at a home in North Las Vegas. I wasn't too worried about solar panels being stored out doors, but if his...

Victron VenusOS driver for serial connected BMS - LLT/JBD / Daly Smart / ANT / JKBMS / Heltec / Renogy

All SBMS0 owners, I'm going to be sending off my SBMS0 to @Louisvdw once I get an address. If you feel like donating to help me replace my SBMS0, please shoot me a PM and I can send you my paypal address if you want to chip in. I'll take half the donations (to recoup my costs for the SBMS0) and...

I emailed them from their github page. Looks like they will have a 12v/24v option soon. May want to wait for that instead of wiring up an external power supply.

ABS Battery Box for 8S 280 ah 24 Volt Battery

Any links to the 12v 4 cell option from Ali? $120 is crazy expensive for what you're getting.

FS: Jinko 400w split cell Panel (1)

I purchased 25 panels but only installed 24. These are B grade panels but are still rated for 400w. Model isJKM400M-72HL believe but will have to double check. I've been using the panels on my home in Las Vegas for almost a year and they are solid performing panels. There is blemish on the glass...

Connecting electrodacus SBMS0 to multiplus 12/3000/120

It's really straight forward. Look at @snooblers post above. You need to program the 2 wire BMS assistant either over VRM if you have a GX device, or with an MK3 to USB adapter. Then you wire up the the extio port on the SBMS to the Aux1 input and set the type you defined in the assistant. Then...

    REC Pre-charge unit?

No it's the batt + -> On/Off -> contactor -> bus bar. The BMS is what controls the precharge as it has a 12v allow to charge, 12v allow to discharge and 12v master cut of signal. I used the master cut off signal to control the contactor.

Victron VenusOS driver for serial connected BMS - LLT/JBD / Daly Smart / ANT / JKBMS / Heltec / Renogy

@Louisvdw The way I see this working would be let the BMS work with the GX in main control, but then also program one of the SBMS extio (optocouplers) to type 5. Here is the explanations of the different settings you can use in the SBMS0 (oddly NOT listed in the manual online): type 1 is for...

    REC Pre-charge unit?

These are expensive for what they do, but it's an easy hands off box that's worth the money for me as it just works (sorta). I used one on my old Powerhouse Auto BMS that used a 500amp contactor. As @MurphyGuy stated, mine also was adjustable from 2-11 seconds but it never worked higher than 4-6...

    Installing on their side?

I've got 8 105ah cells for an 8s 24V pack that I want to install for a portable rig. I've got a box that is compact but I think it might involve installing the cells on their side for the best position. I'm pretty sure this is NOT a recommended method. Any feedback?

Daly Smart BMS substitute for SBMS0?

In the SBMS0 There are no mosfets where the current is passing through with the SBMS0. The SBMS0 controls your inverters and chargers directly rather than turning on/off mosfets inside the BMS like the Daly units. In my opinion Daly units are suitable for low current DC loads and not for...

Copper Bus Bar calculations per mm2?

Curious what Thanks. So for example a the bus bars that ship with the eve cells are 2mmx15mm=30mm2 so that is between a 2 and 3awg wire? I'm installing 8 cells in a 24v configure with a breaker rated at 100amps so in theory a single bus bar between the cells should be fine. I did order extra...

Copper Bus Bar calculations per mm2?

What is everyone using to calculate their bus bar current rating? I've always heard that 1.6 X mm2 of the bus bar, but I've been reading that that might be too generous. Some say 1.5 others say only 1.2. Curious what everyone does. For example 1/4in x 3/4in thick which is 6.35mmx19.05mm =...

    Lishen 272AH thread?

Thanks. So in that thread, I don't see a comparison photo with the Lishen. The spec sheet looks like terminals from the ETC but vent of the EVE/CATL. But the spec sheet was helpful as it's not some odd terminal, thank you! I'm adding the attachment and photos here as well in case anyone...

    Lishen 272AH thread?

It looks like a lot of sellers are now going to be replacing their EVE listings with Lishen. I've asked Emily from Shenzhen Basen Technology for spec sheets on them so they can compare to EVE. I'm mainly curious about the mounting threads. I've seen some other aluminum cased cells with odd...

How to control Samlex EVO with Electrodacus SBMS0

the optocouplers in the SBMS can only handle a max of 150ma. You should check the input side of the 12v on the bottom and measure the current to make sure you don't blow out the optocoupler.

    Rec-BMS & Victron

That's what a basic BMS is for. This can do so much more, like ramping down charge voltage at the top end to allow the cells to balance properly instead of just disconnecting the chargers and not getting a good balance. It can also adjust your charge rate in unfavorable temps (freezing or too...

    Rec-BMS & Victron

The advantage is the charger is controlled by the BMS. The BMS knows the cell voltages so you never run into an over or under voltage condition because the BMS won't allow it. If by chance there is a failure in CAN communication, the BMS also has a EV200 500 amp relay that acts as a main...

    Rec-BMS & Victron

I don't have REC active, but looking at their larger unit for my 48v home unit. If you have Victron you should 100% use REC. A few things... You've got a pretty good understanding of how the CAN communications work. The MPPT and multi are directly controlled by the BMS so when the battery is...

    Chargery BMS and CANBus

I know this was about Chargery BMS, but I will update my post above regarding Batrium and sol-ark. Chargery BMS and CANBus

Interesting they are working with Batrium. I'm in the market for a Sol-Ark and looking for a BMS that will control the inverter instead of dealing with cheap BMS'. I've spoken with REC-BMS and they can program their BMS to work with it as they can match Pylontech's protocol. Still in talks with...

    Electrodacus SBMS0 or Chargery 8S?

Thanks. I made a post on the promaster forum about my electrical system but since my BMS was no longer sold (minibms) I drew up how you could use a modern BMS that's available. The dc-dc is from Australia (enerdrive). It is the same unit as the Kisae DMT-1250 but was released there before it...

NMEA battery boxes for lifepo4 prismatic cells? 32 eve 280ah cells

I'm considering buying 32 EVE 280ah cells for battery storage for my solar install in Las Vegas. NV Energy will provide up to $3000 if I switch to TOU and $1500 if I stay on a normal rate. I'm consider switching to TOU and sell back to the grid from the battery at the higher rate and recharge...

    Electrodacus SBMS0 or Chargery 8S?

I wouldn't call it unnecessary. Most BMS' only do small current because they are doing it internally. My BMS has external balance/monitor boards so you can fit larger resistors. Even so, 1 amp isn't that much if you are charging at 120amps. The SBMS isn't a charger, just a BMS. The DSSR20...

My Xuba 280s are here! Yay!, 28 killowatts. Now to figure out BMS...

I'm thinking about the same number of cells for my setup. What is everyone doing for a battery box? I'm going to be installing this with a grid tie setup so I'd like a NMEA enclosure in case the inspector is picky. Suggestions?

    Electrodacus SBMS0 or Chargery 8S?

DZL hit most points dead on so I really don't have anything to add regarding SBMS vs Chargery. Another BMS that does active Balancing is REC BMS but ONLY on their ActiveBMS and that's only on 12V. I've asked them about a 24v model as there larger units still only do passive balancing. I will...
