    Another Cargo Trailer setup.

Using it for the first time this season (mid-March, 2024) the LV2424 was pulling ~750 watts from the panels.

    46165 Sodium Cells

This doesn't make any sense. 480 grams for ONE 46165 cell. To make a 300 AH 12V battery, 16S4P, that one battery would weigh 30.7 KG just in cells. That's 122.9 KG for a 48V setup...

1500lbs of solar on fifth wheel roof?

These ROOFs are rated to hold a 350lb owner standing on his feet. Now imagine how much pressure those roofs have on them when a 150lb pair of panels is spread out over 18 square feet.

Old battery, cheap charge controller and broke PV panel.

The battery is from 2018, new then, but has been 100% submerged in rainwater for two years, outside. The charge controller is the absolute cheapest Amazon PWM available, I think I paid $8.50 for it. The panel is a 72-cell panel, but half are disabled. I suspect a broken solder somewhere. It was...

MPP LV5048 and LV6548 Only above 0 degrees Celsius?

The hottest the inverter ever got was 84°C and then went into fail-safe. It only did this when it was asked to do 12kW. The vast majority(99.999%) of the time the entire system was 40°C or less.

    My next inverter! (Sol-Ark)

I don't think it is worth anything. The only sort of "BMS" I can advocate for is an Active Balancer that has at least 1 amp of balancing. Now that I have the max Voltage set with the charge controller and the low Voltage cutoff controlled by the inverter, I don't use anything that the BMS has...

Excess solar for EV charging - how to automate?

You put the CTs for the Solarark on the line, you put the CTs for the Vue at the meter. This is how I have it right now. :)

Excess solar for EV charging - how to automate?

The "zero export" works the same way as the Vue, it still has to have a CT to know when to stop sending out to the grid.

Excess solar for EV charging - how to automate?

You can really get wrapped around the axel trying all these options or just use Emporia and a Net Meter. You said you are connected to the grid already.
  13. jasonhc73

Excess solar for EV charging - how to automate?

I use the Emporia Vue and Charger. It works exactly as expected. You set the EVSE to excess solar. When the Vue detects more than 1200 watts going out to the grid, the Vue signals the EVSE to turn on and charge the car. Every 240 watts more after that is another amp more to the EVSE. You...

What happens (when/if) one MultiPlus in a parallel system fails?

Parallel setups are for expanded capacity or syncing phases. Not for failsafe redundancy. If one fails, the entire system goes down, or that phase is offline, or back to a single operation. I'm guessing 120V...

Want to convert 24V SLA system to lithium

Let's start by tempering your expectations of SLA. SLA is very effective when used properly. That is literally what this entire website is about. This is a DIY website. If you don't have time to learn and to do it, then higher someone and pay them for their knowledge and expertise.

    Voltage Switch

This is one of those derp moments that happen now and again... I forgot my balancers have a Bluetooth app. In the app I set the balancing to turn on and off when needed. ?‍♂️ Thanks for all the great ideas.

How do you prevent back feeding the grid during outage?

It does not have the capability to backfeed, so that's about as simple as it can be. You will still have to pay the basic grid connection fee though, you can't zero out that if you don't backfeed.
  21. jasonhc73

How do you prevent back feeding the grid during outage?

There is always the "Off-Grid" setup using MPP Solar 6548s or EG4 6500s. It may not be UL1749 but, it can't backfeed the grid anyway. They say they are UL1749, but it is moot. They can only pull power from the AC input. Then you run your load on the AC output side. You don't even need a net...

How do you prevent back feeding the grid during outage?

Newer grid-tie inverters with UL1741SA standard work without grid input, and island themselves from the grid. There is no physical disconnect, they can just not backfeed, thus isolateing the load from the line.
  23. jasonhc73

How do you prevent back feeding the grid during outage?

UL1741 is actually fairly old. UL1741SA is basically what all modern grid-tied inverters use. To answer the OP... A physical disconnect with the main circuit breaker or a safety disconnect switch is the only way to guarantee it won't backfeed. UL1741SA inverters have current sensors at the...

    Voltage Switch

I think this is the opposite of what I want. ? All I want to do is monitor the battery voltage, when it gets high, turn on my balancer, when it goes lower turn off the balancer. I only saw 12/24 protectors, do they have 48v? I can probably get this to happen. I have dorked around with an...

    Voltage Switch

Is there a switch that is adjustable to come on at X voltage and off at Y voltage? I want the switch to turn on at 53.7V and then off at 53.1V. I guess this is sort of like a dump-load switch.

(at least) 4 MUST HAVE tools for BIG Wire

Too much $$$ in my book. But probably quicker than the ratchet type. I did see some ratchet type in this price range at Menards and HD. That's why I got the one I linked, for the price it's near impossible to match.

    Lifepo4 dead HELP

Looks like one of the cell bms wires are not connected to the cell properly. You certainly need to balance these cells.

    How low can you go?

I have recorded a total of 28 cycles in 2½ years using 15% to 99% on LiFePO4 batteries. I set the charge to 3.40V as the top and 3.125 as the cutoff on the charge controller/inverter. 54.4V - 50V

(at least) 4 MUST HAVE tools for BIG Wire

Hydraulic Crimper Cable Bender Ratchet Cable Cutters Cable Stripper These are 4AWG to 4/0 AWG. If you are doing 250 MCM, you probably already have professional tools. I prefer the 16T crimper instead of the 10T crimper because the 16T holds the dies in from both sides. I just did a project with...

Solar Farm for EV DC Charging

Commercial Solar Carport; https://www.solarelectricsupply.com/commercial-solar-systems/solar-carport Top Tier components, 1 MW of PV/Inverter/Mounting - $1.3 million, 6 MW = 9.2 acres, $7.8 million. What if this parking structure is just an inside garage like a "general steel" building?

Does it make financial sense to build a Off-Grid 30kWh battery solar system for EV charging only?

After 2½ years of use, my LiFePO4 has recorded 28 cycles. 3.40V top and 3.125V bottom per cell (54.4V to 50.0V)

Solar Farm for EV DC Charging

Interesting, To be clear, I have no desire of any sort of "being green", this is purely a show of practicality and affordability. I think these things done in mass are a lot more affordable and the "break-even" point is not near as far off as most think. Something that really got me interested...

Solar Farm for EV DC Charging

Is that like bits and Bytes? Are you seeing milliwatts instead of Megawatts? I just saw on the master of our grammar, wiktionary, the mW is a milliwatt.
