There does seem to an overzealous attempt by the DC-DC charger manufacturers to push LiFePO4 4S systems to 14.4 - 14.6V and then float. Certainly in the off grid world most would not be pushing their cells above an equivalent of 14.0V. Some of the manufacturers of LIFePO4 4S packs also...

JK active balancer gets switched on manually when 16s pack gets to 56V and delta V is > 30mV -50mV maybe X2 /yr aiming for <10mV

Still not fully charged. If you want to really want know how balanced cells are need to push total voltage to 55-56V. Most full time active balancers are set not to activate when cell voltages are less than 3.4V

My recollection from my learned mates on this forum is that EVE from last year now make their original labels branded with a "B" for grade B to try and stop resellers upselling them as A (automotive) grade.

Means nothing when av cell voltage is only 3.29V. What is delta V at 3.5V?

So it should only be necessary to connect to battery on input side and and most +ve balance wire to Out+ and -ve balance wire can stay on balancer

In this mode with XY-CD60L can you be sure there is no voltage drop thru the controller circuit? ( compare Vin- Vin+ voltage to Out- Out+ve Voltage). Is there a relay switch output mode that you could connect and disconnect the most +ve balance lead?

Which balance lead wire on the JK active balancer do you connect and disconnect with the relay on the XY-CD60L to turn the balancer on and off?

Didn't catch what BMS you are using and if there is a balancer that comes on at ? 14.0V and if you can check cell voltages. Might be wise to check how the AGM charger boosts to full voltage ?14.4V It may be that if there is minimal time above 14.0V balancing time will be inadequate.

Probably need to dismantle the cases and measure/monitor cell voltage when packs are 14.2-14.4V if want to know what is going on. ie. Non smart BMS on a closed system leads to battery capacity loss with low quality cells because you are flying by the seat of your pants because you can't measure...

Not all active balancers work this way. Explaining how different active balancers can be setup 1. Heltec Capacitor type - some use the on/off tabs to detect cell voltage so they only operate in the knee. There is no ability to adjust delta V cut off. 2. The Standalone JK active balancer does not...

So there are 3 ways of doing that 1. Cell voltage >3.4V alone 2. Putting a limit on delta V - I use 20mV alone 16S 300Ahr LiFePO4 ( with no cell voltage control) 3. Using cell voltage >3.4V and delta V - 5-10mV

As per @Steve_S balancing starts when any cell voltage passes the default "Start Balance Voltage" 3.37V (adjustable) and the voltage difference is greater than default 10mV (adjustable). What you were seeing was a function of the overall charging voltage and what happens as each cell approaches...

here is the Redarc Profile for modes A,B,C and LiFePO4 for their BCDC chargers, wish others would follow and produce understandable profiles.

If you can be sure how the flooded lead profile behaves as you describe them you are in a safe zone. Redarc are probably the duck's nuts re DC DC chargers and do actually publish details of their BCDC chargers. In LiFePo4 mode they go to 14.5V and float at 13.6 and return to boost at 13.2/13.4...

Ok, back to the real world, which balances faster a JK 2A Active balancer, A 4A Neey Active Balancer, or Heltec Capacitor Balancer?

Load is a compressor fridge and draws about 7A when cycling on. The "Lead" Profile of this DC-DC charger is very similar to the LiFePO4 profile of the newer Redarc BCDC series (14.5V/13.6V) but with a more realistic return to Boost of 13.2V for LiFEPO4 - see attached.

Luyuan (and @Steve_S say charging up to 0.5C is ok (50A) so max rate is ok. Alternator is either 75A or 90A The concern I have about the "Lion" profile if I start with fully charged pack and drive for 3hrs and stop the SOC will be less the load used for 3hrs from fridge as no charging occurs...
