What is the point in charging Lifepo4 all the way to 14.4v when we have about 99.8 SOC at 13.88 v ?

No, I don't do that, cell are within 3mv of each other most of the time. Maybe they will drift a bit if you charge higher, but at only 3.4v they stay close to each other.

What is the point in charging Lifepo4 all the way to 14.4v when we have about 99.8 SOC at 13.88 v ?

I Only charge to 3.4 / 13.6 volts. I barely loose any capacity. I have cell overvoltage set at 3.5v per cell. And programmad the BMS to read 100% when one of the cells hits 3.4. So I'm very much at the safe side, my cells will stay healty for a long time, I barely loose capacity..

    JBD 150A "Smart" BMS

OK thanks, it doesn't matter too much, the numbers speak for them self, and everything I need to know is on the first screen. I even only designed only one button in my 3d printed enclosure. Only to turn the display on when it is switched off. Mine stays on while charging or discharging but...

Fire!! Never cover LiFePO4 with wood!!!

Please don't use stainless steel scrub screws in the aluminium cells. They will corrode. Use normal galvanised fasteners

    Lishen 272AH thread?

Not very hard, my sides are 3printed parts with only 20% infill, so you cannot clamp it very hard. Just enough to be able to pickup the pack without the cell in the middle falling out. There's nothing underneath, they are held together only by clamping. I've clamped them at 80% SOC, I wasn't...

Fire!! Never cover LiFePO4 with wood!!!

From the 8 cells in my van four were completely melted, and four had medium fire damage, melted top vent etc. I've cycled the four cells lots of times now and they still perform like before the fire. They smell very badly so I did nt fit them to the new camper.

    Lishen 272AH thread?

To return to my fire from a few weeks ago.. My cells were compressed, could it be a possibility that they didn't have enough room to expand during charging, and that something inside expanded and created an internal short?

Fire!! Never cover LiFePO4 with wood!!!

That's the second fire here on the forum? I have never found the cause of my fire, but it has cost me $ 40.000 dollars unfortunately :-( Now put a small pack of four cells again in my new campervan, still a bit scared...

looking for BMS brands/references in Europe

It is not the 123BMS, but it is of a similar kind. In Europe a lot of the Yellow Winston cells are sold from Prague, they also sell the Dutch 123BMS. I own such a set, and it is of much better quality than the Lishen or Eve cells with Daly or JBD/overkill BMS. But I do like the cheap stuff...

OVP for charger with JBD BMS

I have now ordered a small voltage controlled relay to turn the charger on and off.. I think that will be the solution https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33017409932.html

OVP for charger with JBD BMS

A friend of mine uses a JBD bms, and charges his batteries to 13.6 volts to stay within his 80% usage scenario, his pack OVP is set at 13.6v in the bms. MPPT and DCDC are programmable and are set to charge up to 13.58v, so if everything is well ovp from the BMS doesn't have to kick in. Only...

At the back the enclosure is open, and at the front there is the grille. But I will have to monitor it for a while. But with max Amps of 50 my BMS has never even got warm while carging or discharging. So I think it will be OK.

Traditional Battery Case for 280ah Cells

I have put them in a eurobox as portable power. I think they fit in a half hight box as well.. I have 3d printed brackets to hold them in place. There is space left for cables etc.

It is at the top, but I will do a top balance to be sure. The WInstons did very very well.. 227Ah from 3.4 tot 3.1volts from 200Ah cells o_O

    Lishen 272AH thread?

In the back you see the four cells that have survived the fire. I've done a few capacity tests, and they are around 270Ah, so it seems the fire did not damage them. Vents have melted, and black top is also a bit melted. Now I have connected a few new 272 Lishen with a BMS. I haven't top balanced...

In that picture you can my charger crocodile clip. I've charged an discharged lots of packs like this on my test bench without any problems, although the clip always got hand warm. My fused terminal, something like in your link is in my negative side. I don't think plus or minus fused would...

To answer all questions.. The charger was connected through an extension cord, because there was no mains power connected to the camper. It is circled down left in the picture. The rest of the wiring was disconnected at the time of the fire. There was no power on any of the wiring. Only power was on battery, charger and BMS. Charger was on extension cord, because there was no power in the camper. Extension cord remained undamaged. Main positive feed from battery to...

There was no cover over the cells. The battery was disconnected from the rest of the campervan. There was no power whatsoever on any other wiring. Only the charger, bms and battery where connected together. BMS is not heavily burned, it was behind the half of the cells that have survived. The...

My cheap BMS has cell overvoltage protection as well. The camper was not insured unfortunately :-( ... I'm trying to forget about my loss. Today, with a friend, we have taken most of the interior out of the camper. The structure is mostly intact. I think it can be repaired, but it will take...

    Lishen 272AH thread?

I'm sure it hasn't been caused by heat in a cable (except maybe the charger, charging at around 30amps). Every cable was fused, the charger as well. 4 of the cells have swollen like a balloon, one has burst open. I'll take photo's of the cells tomorrow. The vents on top are still closed!! They...

    Lishen 272AH thread?

I don't think it was scrubbing of the wires, the van has been parked al month. I was suspecting the chinese charger myself as wel, but the charger has the least fire damage of all, so I don't think it was. I still will not rule out an internal fault in one of the cells, because it is very...

    Lishen 272AH thread?

No offense taken.. I saw that the bushbar on which I had the alligator clip of the charger has a different color from the other ones. I think there has been a high resistance in the cheap chinese clip and that it has heated up and maybe melted one of the balancing wires of the BMS and caused a...

    Lishen 272AH thread?

I had my charger set at 13.6v. But if one cell would have drifted the BMS is the only defence. But I have done a lot of test cycles and all cells were perfectly balanced. Lishen 272AH thread?

I really cannnot diagnose the cause. + and - both had a fuse. the 4s bms monitoring 2 cells per lead should not be a problem, it's common practice and the two cells per lead are parallel so should level each other. Only things I can think of are 1: the wiring of the charger has a bad contact and...
