    ABYC standards for marine lithium?

So to meet the recommendation, you would need the BMS to have the ability to control the charge sources? Is that possible without changing out a JBD (Overkill) BMS at this point?

    Replacement JBD Temperature Sensor

I ordered a JST 1.25mm GH connector as advised in another thread and unfortunately it still wasn't the right connector (my temperature probe wires got caught and pulled out of the connector while getting shredded. The connector I am looking for is on the left and a better image of it is below...

    Replacement JBD Temperature Sensor

My temperature sensor was damaged and now works intermittantly. I understand it is an NTC 10k Thermistor and the connector is a JST GH 1.25mm pitch connector. I am having a very tough time locating a replacement (either on Aliexpress - to arrive in Jul) or the components to reassemble an...

    JBD BMS troubleshooting

Aha! The temp probe wire was frayed and almost pulled out of the plug... are these available generally (like a robotics/electronics store) or should I try to repair it?

    JBD BMS troubleshooting

I have an odd situation with my JBD BMS (I think this is the cause). The BMS seems to activate when I connect the cell monitoring harness (I measure 13.5V between the battery terminals, and at the B- and the C-. But when I connect the battery to the circuit, I do not get any voltage or...

    Cell expansion

It's one of those 185W alliexpress capacity testers. It was set at about 1-3A so I was surprised the measured cell voltage dropped as much. Under a very small load the cell voltage approached 2.77V (when no load, it went back to 3.22V). My next step will be to put proper ring terminals on the...

    Cell expansion

So are these cells bloated beyond a safe margin?

    Cell expansion

Cells measure at 3.22V which i believe is close to 50% SOC) but when I try to put them on a small capacity tester under a small load, the Cell Voltage drops momentarily below my low threshold of 2.6V (so the capacity tester shuts off). The cells were bound together with tape but I guess it was...

    Cell expansion

I finally got around to ordering a proper case for my 4x 280AH cells. They did not seem to have expanded however when i fit them into the battery case kit, i can see there has been expansion. (note the bottom fits into the case bottom, however the top will not fit due to the cell expansion. Is...

    IWISS Lug crimper review

agreed, I later re-did some crimps with a slight oversize to avoid the wings. Not professional looking but also wasn't in price.

    LiFePO4 Voltage Chart?

Yeah. Cell 4 seems to be the weak link. I will swap out the positions tomorrow, but tonight, after using only 29ah, the voltage on the BMV is 12.63V, the BMS is reporting 13.1V but cell 4 drops drastically when a load is drawn (ie 11A when the water pump goes) other cells were 3.3V but 4 went...

    LiFePO4 Voltage Chart?

I have had a bit more time to observe. I believe the fluctuating voltage is due to the BMS cutting out due to a over Voltage on one cell. I've turned off charging for the time being and the cell voltages have settled into a tight range. I will have to take the pack apart to retest for capacity...

    LiFePO4 Voltage Chart?

The charge profile is set to LFP (14.4V) but i have been suspicious of this charger (cristec 40A) i think i will be looking to swap out for a victron charger inverter next season/over the winter. I will also check the connectors to ensure loose connections are the cause for fluctuating voltage...

    LiFePO4 Voltage Chart?

Tbh ive never observed how this charger worked in the past. I suspected it killed my AGM batteries but coild not prove it. Now that the battery is reaching the top i am more concerned to see the Voltage range up to 15v. Im not so certain about this charger now. (But i don’t use the AC charger...

    LiFePO4 Voltage Chart?

I turned on the ac charger this morning to try to fully charge the battery. Now an odd occurence: the Voltage and the amps from the 40A charger fluctuate on the BMV app display ( 13-23A and 13.98 to 14.4V. The charge setting is 14.4V. I dont use the ac charger often as the Solar usually gets us...

    LiFePO4 Voltage Chart?

Thanks. The solar charge controller has the 14.2V absorption and 13.5V float. I noticed right now (nighttime) with an 11A draw (no charging right now) the bmv is showing a 12.79V with a 96% SOC. So perhaps the Voltage under load will be lower than the actual true SOC. The consumed amps since the...

    LiFePO4 Voltage Chart?

An I ask a potentially stupid question - my BMV712 is showing a battery voltage of 13.20V but the SOC is 90%. According to some of the charts here that would should be closer to a 70% SOC. It's shunt based so all the loads and charge sources are going through the BMV. Am I missing something?

High Voltage Alarm off BMV (and differential Voltage readings)

Hello. I have a Victron BMV 712 measuring the usage and charging off my 4 cell 280AH LiFePO4 battery. For the past 24 hours, I have been getting a high voltage warning every time I go into the BMV app (the high voltage alarm is set for 15V but the BMV is only reporting 13.68V; the Solar is...

180W Battery tester will not draw current

i don't think I received two cables - the only other was a usb cable. The cables I am using are about AWG 10 or 12 and have alligator clips. I could make some new cables (the ones supplied are ridiculously short).

180W Battery tester will not draw current

Thank you! I found it elsewhere as well. https://forums.sailboatowners.com/threads/180w-constant-current-electronic-load-200v-20a-battery-tester-discharge-capacity.1249926037/#lg=attachment184183&slide=0 Press the button while powering it up. Then you can set the various parameters press and...

180W Battery tester will not draw current

Tagging onto this thread. Has anyone been able to set the low voltage disconnect on this device? Mine is set at 0 but when I press and hold the button I cannot change the low voltage value. What am I doing wrong?

280ah Battery Top and Bottom Support Design.

If the aluminum cells do not need compression (and assuming you are keeping the cells from moving) would adding these top and bottom supports be redundant? I have limited height to work with so every mm is precious...

Winterizing a Boat - Solar options

So if I hook up the fans to the LOAD output of my MPPT, the Solar panels would run the fans during the day and shut of once the sun goes away? Assuming everything is fused appropriately am I missing something? (The reason for the fans is to keep air moving to avoid mold...)

Winterizing a Boat - Solar options

Winterizing a Boat - Solar options

In the northern hemisphere, it's time to prep the boat for haulout and a winter. I am going to take my LiFePO4 house battery off the boat over the winter (would like to do some testing so see how the capacity has changed over the course of one season. I will put my old AGMs back on board and...

280ah Battery Top and Bottom Support Design.

I do not have a 3d printer (yet) but love these designs. Unfortunately, my compartment requires a lower profile (height) design. @Heap64 How big of a printer are you using to print your battery supports? I love this idea and it might push me to buy a printer!

Can you have too much battery?

After 1 season with a 280Ah I want to capacity test the cells so that I can do exactly that. Program the charging system to charge only to 80% SOC if my usage can be easily accommodated by the day's solar charging.

    Pre-Announcing XUBA September promotion

right now i am using plywood and threaded rod to compress. I wouldn't mind something a little cleaner looking that fully encloses the cells. The posts that are not used for battery terminals are exposed but protected from shorts with rubber and electrical tape. Even within a Group 27 battery...

    Pre-Announcing XUBA September promotion

@Steve_S - thanks for the tips. I started with 4x 280 cells and have a group 27 noco box that I considered cutting down (my boat's battery box does not have the height for a full grp 27 battery nor the box) I've reached out to Amy on Alibaba for more info and a potential second order. If i...

    Making a Marine 200AH 12v system

I would second what luthj said. I picked up 4 280Ah cells (see the massively long thread in the battery forum). Together with BMS they occupy the same space as a group 27 battery. I would go with those cells unless you already have the 100ah cells. When I did the calculations those eve cells...

    IWISS Lug crimper review

I picked up this combo (high-leverage cutter and cable lug crimper). There is a cheaper crimper only option in stock now (that wasn't when I bought) I had read the reviews and noted that the crimper was not always sized correctly. My short assessment after wiring my boat. I used 6AWG to...

    DYKB smart BMS

I am interested in this as well. In Will's video he had to short the ground on the battery to the ground on the other side of the BMS to turn it on before plugging in the balance cables. The BMS in that video was a different model though. I did not do that last time I was trying to set up the...
