Shunt snapped and caused a fire🔥

Those cables leading to the pack never went under that shelf bracket and they had enough slack on them that if the shelf/bracket broke and it dropped they still would not have been out of length and pulling on the breaker. The breakers were for Positive and Negative. If the weight of the pack...

Shunt snapped and caused a fire🔥

I will note, Pack 6 the bottom one had a completly destroyed BMS, I haven't got a really close look at it appears the front 2 cells Vented/Burned. Pack 10 Above it, the BMS is still atached and outwardly doesn't look damaged how ever that pack looks to have lost the front 4 Cells at least...

Shunt snapped and caused a fire🔥

I think the fusing of the cable happend during the event and it was only the positive lead that fused on it. Even if they fused together the BMS was directly after the battery and before those cable so it would have cut out in the event. I've begun pulling it all apart thoughm probably going...

Shunt snapped and caused a fire🔥

2P DC breakers were upto 200A, for 250A you had to size up to 3P. Packs maybe saw 70~80A briefly if the sun was really good, but most times they would run around 20-50A as the normal. Cables were 95mm so felt no heat at that load.

Shunt snapped and caused a fire🔥

I explained just above but the breakers were actually turned off after everything happend, how ever I believe all the BMS had cut off anyway, possibly damaged by the fire fighters, over current spike, heat. All the stats I can see in home assistant show nominal Cell voltages in charge state...

Shunt snapped and caused a fire🔥

I've never had any nuisance trips on the DC side of the system. My grid breaker to my Inverters would sometimes trip from overload due to being set to charge batteries but as they are also supplying load but lack any intelligence to scale back charge current sometimes there was too much draw...

Shunt snapped and caused a fire🔥

These are the breakers on the Battery/Busbar/Inverters https://www.geya.net/product/gycm3-dc-molded-case-circuit-breaker/ 3P 250A, Negative and Positve they were between the bus bar and the battery pack. None of the breakers actually tripped, they were turned off after the everything was...

Shunt snapped and caused a fire🔥

Yeah, thankfully it's just some money and time and a lot of stress. But wife is fine, cats are safe garage plater just needs a little bit of touching up and paint. Hopefully it helps someone.

Shunt and Monitor was one of these. https://a.aliexpress.com/_m0YM7ro I got the 300a shunts, highest current was only 60a

Shunt snapped and caused a fire🔥

I just got power restored hoping my Home assistant caught the cell voltages and current flow at the time, wil add if I can get.

Shunt snapped and caused a fire🔥

It's really hard to determine because the fire fighters sprayed and hosed it deforming a lot of the plastics and wood. But the shunt was on the negative, going to a breaker, it had no strain on it so the battery dropping wouldn't made the shunt snapped like that. I think it was poor design on...

Shunt snapped and caused a fire🔥

Got a call Sunday from the wife about smoke coming from the garage and fire trucks were already on the way. After they had there fun spraying many cans all over the garage I got to have a look inside. I have 5 rows of shelves with 2 shelves for in each with a battery and then busbar along the...

    Crypto mining oddity down under

Constantly running, rapid temperature change could have happened though it can change at the drop of a hat here along with humidity. I've taken to closing the window when humidity is getting high and letting temperature rise as it's blowing the heat back, seem to stop the humidity from forming...

    Crypto mining oddity down under

It didn't feel humid on the day, but google was saying it was 90%. From what I managed to find online, you can basically mix in the exhausted heat with incoming air to remove some of the humidity. So yesterday I checked and google was saying it was 95% didn't feel like it at all but I checked...

    Crypto mining oddity down under

Something new today, the old ASIC miners I have in the garage some of them were dripping water around their intake fans. Didn't seem to be that crazy on humidity and was around 20C. One of them definitely fried the power supply, RCBO trips if it's even plugged in, power point can be off but if...

Pretty sure one of the big things is if it's decided temperature is acceptable and kills the fan it rises quickly and vice versa of it decided it's hot and cranks fan up temperature drops up untill it decides it's good to slow down or turn off again. Will definitely require monitoring. Looks...

If you tried to make noise about voltage in the day time you would have to get pretty lucky to have someone listen to rather than just sweep under the PV rug. Definitely helps that someone else was on the ball with you.

I have Shunt/Monitor under each inverter and then on each battery at my Busbar and some of the BMS have a screen that shows voltage. Want to try and integrate all the shunts into Home Assistant.

    Backup down under

I didn't start work until this afternoon so was having a look at my system and realised the battery charge from the inverters was well below available solar, and then I took a reading of my grid in and the power draw was way lower. I'm in Utility mode but it's can't push all power to the...

This is the filter, can clearly see through it and it really doesn't look that blocked. Because it's sucking heat in from the top I guess it might be pulling heat from the SCC next to it...could also be a fan issue I heard it spinning up and down the other day and there is no control or...

    Backup down under

It's been cool days since so haven't been too stressed about heat, I took one of the filter pads off my inverter and the temperature showed a really large drop, will need to keep an eye on that one. Impressed with my SCC so far, the lower string voltage seems to work pretty well for me as I...

How is your off-grid inverters temperature on hot days? One of my units is getting really hot, might take off the wire cover and see if that increases air flow. This unit also has my combined strings from the roof so it sits at the current limit for one of the MPPTs for some of the day. Need...

I moved over the majority of my GTI strings to my off-grid inverters, somehow I'm still exporting a significant amount but according to my inverters my AC out is usually above what the GTI is making. Head scratches here.

Oversizing Voltronics Inverter (MPP, Axpert Max)

It's the Alibaba chat for whatever that's worth. They only reason I could see over wetting being an issue is if it just wasn't designed to dissipate the heat at sustained max load because if you don't over panel at all the peak does end pretty quickly. I moved over my two smallest arrays from...

    Solar Assistant flatlined

Haha, you can ignore most of the log and just look at the latest things. If it happens again have a look at your logs and see if you have bunch of USB errors/disconnected/resetting messages. I have to have my devices plugged into a separate USB hub that has it's own power pack otherwise the...

    Solar Assistant flatlined

Is there a log file available, and how is your inverter connected? My guess is SA lost communication and couldn't reconnect, this is what I get in Home assistant when the connection gets flaky.

Oversizing Voltronics Inverter (MPP, Axpert Max)

I don't really want to over panel but these are on the roof and it's either under panel my 11kw or over panel and lose out on some production. One of the strings is almost 600V so that will stay on the GTI but the other 4 strings are under 500V. There all around 3500w and the 11kw has 2 MPPT so...

Oversizing Voltronics Inverter (MPP, Axpert Max)

I have some MPP SCC the PCM60X The manual states maximum solar input power of 3200W but I can hook up 2S4P for 4400W and be under, I got confirmation that this is acceptable. Not sure if I will over panel these or not. I also have MPP 11KW MAX, I want to move my GTI strings over so I'm not...

    DIY 'Chargenectifier'

I'm currently waiting on the tax man, filled on July 18 and it's been sitting on under review since, solar production has finally ramped up though so maybe I'll buy them soon if the power bill goes down fast enough. Will update when I can, my only concern with them is heat buildup, I plan on...
