    NEC Guidelines For PV Cable

Yep, I oversized by using AWG 10 USE-2 which is rated for 40A as I thought

    NEC Guidelines For PV Cable

Since my run was less than 25 feet, I just oversized and used 10 AWG for my combined wiring. Isc=9.2 So 9.2A x 125% x 125% x 2 banks in parallel = 28.75 A I believe 10 AWG can handle like 40 amps under normal conditions. I believe the bigger the wire the lower the loss/resistance. just my...

The essence of solar panel setup.

Is there a way someone could accidentally have the grid on as well as the inverter from your solar?

    Battery...schmattery.... Voltage drop limit TRIGGER

So, just to double confirm. A below 12.2 V showing up only because the load is high... DOES NOT damage your battery or reduce cycles, correct?

    Battery...schmattery.... Voltage drop limit TRIGGER

Your commentary is extremely helpful and spot on with the exact issue I am having. I will consider a more expensive monitor since the annoyance factor is getting on my nerves since the charging KWH is so low due to winter solstice. Thanks. let me read Will's post now...

    Battery...schmattery.... Voltage drop limit TRIGGER

Hello there again, I currently manually shut off the solar 24V battery banks running whatever I am running when my voltage gets down to 24.2 volts. (AGM) I have a wireless stream coming from the CC that I can see the instantaneous voltage from inside my house. The inverter and batteries are in...

Maximum Daily Energy Storage with Panels to the SE for next summer?

Wow, that thing is spot on with my max amount for Nov and Dec. Thanks! That helps me a lot in what to expect in June

Maximum Daily Energy Storage with Panels to the SE for next summer?

Hello there Earthlings: Got a curiosity question: I did not get my issue with the CC shutting down intermittently and not charging for hours fixed until about the beginning of November. This is my first year with the off-grid system installed. I have my panels mounted on my garage in about...

    Is this safe???!!!

1- I decided to leave it separate for now and just have the solar circuit run into the house for lights completely independent and then just run drop cords to the 3 refrigerators separately if I have to fire up the small stand alone generator. We really only have a couple of short power outages...

I ran the complete circuit into the house and got it all working. Labeled the wiring conduit and duplex... here is an example or two.

    Is this safe???!!!

You all are the best. The main solar system is of course grounded... but I see now that I would need to make sure this circuit is also has it's protection since it is split off... but would have still been grounded in my original drawing since the ground passes in, thru and to the grounding...

    Is this safe???!!!

Hello, I am in the process of running a completely separate circuit from my unattached garage that has the solar system in it, into my house. This separate circuit will only have 2 or 3 outlets inside the house and will be used only for emergency lighting, emergency fans, etc. HOWEVER.... I...

Question about using solar for an emergency circuit for your house from you unattached garage.

Very good. As info., there are 2 15A circuits exiting inverter. I chose that instead of connecting the basic output option which gives ONE 20A output. Thanks again. I think I will label like crazy and keep a separate circuit throughout

Question about using solar for an emergency circuit for your house from you unattached garage.

I've got an AC breaker after the inverter and the inverter is 3000W steady level. My main question is would you run such a circuit into your house and how would you label it and separate it such that nobody by the time you are gone can not see that it is solar, etc/

Yes, totally separate circuits and not comingled in any way... not even close to the regular AC panel

    hi guys .

You are in the right place. We will make sure you have useable power and not burn up your RV in the process. So.. here are the basics. You mount the panel to the roof. You run the panel to a charge controller. You run the charge controller to battery/batteries. You run the batteries to an...

    Parallel rather than Series?

I'm in the same boat with you with maxing out on the CC versus the panels. 4 Panels top power combined: 1400W CC top power 520@12V battery system and 1040W at 24V battery system... 1040W in my case. So, I have maxed out at 1040W several times in Sept.. so come summer, I expect it will be common.

Question about using solar for an emergency circuit for your house from you unattached garage.

Hello, My solar power system is completely inside an unattached garage... panels, CC, batteries, inverter, etc. Being that I don't need to run my outdoor pond pump in the winter when the goldfish go to the bottom and don't really need dissolved oxygen, I wanted to repurpose my solar output for...

    hi guys .

Do you have a project in mind? As far as solar, some of us learned how to crawl, then walk then run and played around with it enough to get more comfortable and expand. That's what I did. good luck and ask away if there any questions not posted in previous threads.

Who has got good/bad experiences with fire insurance together with a DIY solar installation?

    1) Label it, label it, label it. If yours in being inspected, buy yourself a nice $20 label applicator and label everything. Do it to the point of even being silly and obvious what the damn thing is... like "Charge Controller Monitor", "DC disconnect", "15A AC Breaker", "DC grounding bus", even...

How much power does an Inverter use just sitting there idling?

As information, I just did a test of the inverter decent load versus almost no load: Inverter: 250W load (confirmed thru measurement) = net of 29W for Inverter itself 2W load just charging a wireless speaker = 21W " " Thanks for all the help. I want to put in an automatic switch DC to AC grid...

How much power does an Inverter use just sitting there idling?

How much power does an Inverter use just sitting there idling?

Hello, Quick question. I have a 24V 3000W pure sine wave inverter powering two 15A circuits. The inverter itself uses about 30W running a 500W load. There are some times that there is no load. Does the inverter still consume the same amount of power then? Or significantly less because it is...

Manual switch grid versus solar: Does this violate code?

Curious: What is specifically unsafe about plugging in an otherwise dead circuit into either a solar or a grid receptacle?

For all you Old Timers out there: How old was your first DIY solar install? Just curious what the panels sizes were then and the payback years?

Interesting! I've heard that the cells on satellites are extremely advanced and have tremendous power. Notwithstanding that the sun beam would be absolutely incredibly strong also.
