    Direct to water heating.

All of you members … you need to seriously do your homework… I don’t want to hear in the news how experimenters flowing themselves or houses up. The thermostat and control boxes in a hot water heater are AC devices not DC …when you put DC through contacts you create a large arc and run the risk...

    The secret to compression

People, I hear a lot of talk about how things feel or look good and probably might work . None of this is real or has direction, guessing and looks good isn’t an answer. I have been an engineer for over 40 years and much of the guesses people make in this forum literally scare me to death. Take...

    Electric water heater: Any insight/experience?

You do understand that they have been putting propane HW heaters in RV’s for over 50 years so I am sure they have the bugs worked out, AND they use them inside homes as well. Propane is better than electric for batch heating, but I use electric as a propane HW heater water preheater run off my...

I have punched 4 batteries as well and all were at 265 to 274 AH .. aliexpress said I need to contact the seller and I told aliexpress I sent 4 messages over the month with no response.. I am glad I only bought 4, I originally only wanted 2 to test but was told they came as a 4 matched set … boy...

    The secret to compression

Foam and plastics take a set with time, maybe couple days maybe a month, but they will loose their compression guaranteed.

I received my delivery as well .. and first two tested were also really low. #1 272 ah. #2 267ah. as received 0.026 v cell variation . as recived used std practices to equalize cells than .1 charge rate and a 1 hour soak.

Electric water heater with timer and thermostatic mixing valve

If you think about it, big industry has for years been squashing this technology to line their pockets. Now foreign markets who have been doing technology with the thought basis of customer have or have not ( have power or no power) are marketing their product overseas now the big manufacturing...

Electric water heater with timer and thermostatic mixing valve

I dont know about volcanic eruptions but am an electrician engineer for over 30 years and me understand failure modes and effects and reliability indexes and do believe in the saying KEEP IT SIMPLE and AC and DC are not the same. My system is off grid and has been running flawlessly for 3+ years.

This seems way too good to be true ... 420ah from a "normal size" LifePO4 cell

btw there is a huge surplus of lithium in China and I the are producing a lot of batteries now at reduced prices, but as with anything in China beware what you buy, they will sell you anything you want to hear.

This seems way too good to be true ... 420ah from a "normal size" LifePO4 cell

I looked up the specs and the discharge capacity was only 3500 mah. I asked the company and they said that’s how it discharged . I was going to buy 4 to test but I couldn’t get a answer that made sense of anything. I ended up buying 16 200ah liitokala cells for a few cents per WH.

Electric water heater with timer and thermostatic mixing valve

I am getting very confused by this posting. what is it you are trying to do and why are you messing with the 2 heating elements. First heating wateri with electrics is by far the most expensive and if you have an excess in PV as you said, why not using a smaller electric heater connected to...

Efficient long distance transmission of power

First, what is the power you are trying to transmit, ac dc and what voltage. If it’s AC you are way ahead of the bar, just highervoltage and lower current. Second, Aliexpress sells a number of voltage converters to run into your into your BMS for charging. Unless this is some sort of experiment...

Existing water heater for excess PV

I uses a two element system but it is 60 gallon and I use both elements at 110vac. The top element has the cutoff. When the tank reaches the max temp it shuts the heater off, which doesn’t happen often.

Existing water heater for excess PV

I think the point that TRW was making is if you series them you half the power. It sounds like you are overpowering the small tank system and need to rebalance things.

Existing water heater for excess PV

I am doing a solar heating with AC from my all in one inverter, I use a modified grid tie function and take excess solar once the battery’s are topped off to heat a separate AC water heater tank as a preheater for my LP hot water tank. with LP. This feature cut my water heating costs to less...

    Direct to water heating.

I thought she said she wanted to run a water heater ! She didn’t say for how long and water heaters don’t care about frequency and are tolerant about voltage.

    Direct to water heating.

Yes ... a dc to ac inverter, the hot water heater will work on dc but the thermostat and safety cutouts won’t last long. Don’t forget that there is a limited period of time for electricity production.

Existing water heater for excess PV

Did you work for TRW ? I worked for them for 32 years. First they make 1000w elements that run on 120v ac. Second if you need lower power you can get a higher power dimmer that will allow to control the 120ac

    Direct to water heating.

the thermostats don't work well for very long , using DC you blow the contacts, unless the thermostat is solid state which only works on AC. You didn't mention how long a recovery rate you were looking for, but there are people out there that use the power direct from the solar but you run the...

Excess PV Power Diverted At Power Point To Heat Water Efficiently

An interesting study in thermodynamics lol. There is a easier method which I am doing now. I have 2 water heaters 1 propane and the other electric. I use the electric heater to preheat water to the propane heater, I changed out the the 220v elements to 120v and use the one with the thermostat so...

Excess PV Power Diverted At Power Point To Heat Water Efficiently

You are all doing a interesting study , but a easier way is first off using excess power out of your inverter and do a little work with your controller supplier with the power to grid feature which does all the shunting when the batteries are charged and directs the excess to the water heater.

Existing water heater for excess PV

But you don’t need to use both elements. Generally one of them has a thermostat so it doesn’t over temp. I just adjust mine to 100 F and don’t worry about anything.

    DC water heater element?

First, doesn’t matter ac or dc, it’s a resistance. I personally use 1500 and 1000w 120v water elements. You can derive the resistance, but on 12v they won’t make a lot of heat. I use extra array power out of the inverter After the battery charges to heat a preheater hot water tank and send that...

Why in the heck is there not a Lifepo4 cell manufacturer in the USA?

The majority of the worlds supply of lithium comes out of China ... export prices to the world for the material is 2 to 3 times cost, unless you would be purchasing as a internal to China user.

    Getting Power to the barn

AC power doesn’t care how it’s generated, follow standard transmission practices for underground wire and be done with it. I am assuming you will be carrying less than 10kw so no worries.

    Direct to water heating.

I am working on that project now. My plan is to use extra capacity of my solar after battery recharge to be directed to a 120v ac water to precharge the water to my propane hot water heater. I have started to talk to a inverter/ charger supplier to try to use the “grid feature” as a way of...

Are we into the Westinghouse/Edison argument. If you Produce AC and rectify it at the delivery site, low transmission losses and smaller wire.
