Admin privileges for JBD for everyone (for Android users at least)!

We know it's really annoying that JBD took away admin rights on the Android app by default, but there is a way around it. All you need to do is log in with an account that has admin privileges and you'll get additional menus with all the settings that you require. We had JBD create one for us...

New 250A Smart BMS with 5A Active Balancer

It's Australian dollars and includes shipping. I'm definitely not saying it's cheap, but it's not as expensive as it may appear to international customers.

    Active balancer, make it smart!?

Good comments! The cell voltage measurements work fine and balancing does not cause any read errors on it. In my mind (and feel free to disagree) this isn't really an issue, regardless of whether the balancing is stopped for voltage measurements or not. While it's listed as a 5A balancer, this...

    Active balancer, make it smart!?

Sorry, I just saw this tag. Yes, it's possible, but only if you use an optocoupler. This ensures that you don't impact the BMS with the active balancer. Unfortunately, as I understand it, it's different with each BMS type, so I can't give a general answer. And when it comes to our type of BMS...

New 250A Smart BMS with 5A Active Balancer

I hope this is okay, given that there is no longer a commercial corner on here. But I just wanted to share our new 250A JBD Smart BMS that has a built-in optocoupler that outputs a signal to a supplied 5A Heltec active balancer, so it turns on and off when the on-board passive balancer does...

    BMS with PWM?

Thanks very much for your input. We've measured the current at around 500A which is definitely high but it's not quite dividing-by-zero high. So in my mind, it's more of a question of how many and what type of MOSFETs (but please feel free to correct me). I did experiment with an inductor, but...

    BMS with PWM?

Unfortunately, I'm a little bit time-poor and while I'm a mechatronics engineer, it's somewhat outside of my comfort zone. Should you want to have a chat about some potential paid design work, please drop me an email on ruben@mullerenergy.com.au The reason why this is working a little bit...

    BMS with PWM?

Before I go reinventing the wheel, I thought I'd use the hive brain to make sure I'm not missing something obvious! So we're developing a hybrid starter battery that uses super caps to start the car and LiFePO4 cells to ensure the caps are charged. However, we also have a second low-voltage...

    Beware @Michael B Caro

I wish I had customers like you guys! I just had a customer going off at me because he hasn't received a charger he ordered last week (I have to admit that was mainly my fault, though the payment showed up as declined but it had actually come through). If you don't take action, there's no way...

Would you recommend grid tied solar to your friends?

You been get it from about half that again. I've definitely seen A$2,199 for 6.6kW (DC, 5kW AC), which equates to US$0.24/W(DC). But you know what they say about paying peanuts and getting monkeys.
  11. MullerEnergy-Australia

Would you recommend grid tied solar to your friends?

Absolutely! In Australia, you can get fully installed prices (after a rebate that you don't have to worry about as the consumer) for well under US$0.50/W. Payback periods tend to be four years or less. I tell anyone that will listen to get solar!

    Minor damage on new cells

They are full of it. Was that Winnie? She's a serial liar. Ray comes to the same conclusion as me on Jidian. Definitely avoid!

Shenzhen Jidian Technology Co., Ltd. 272Ah 3.2v cell supplier

I would strongly recommend NOT buying from them. Why? My own experiences are quite similar to Ray's:

    Daly BMS MOSFET details?

Does anyone know what MOSFETs are used in a 4s LiFePO4 250A Smart Daly BMS (or similar model)? I want to do a stupid experiment and want to confirm it has a decent chance of survival.

    Beware @Michael B Caro

I deal with Chinese suppliers on a daily basis and for me, their ethnicity is not important, but the way they do business is certainly different from the way that we do business in Australia (which seems to be somewhat similar, but not the same, as the way you do business in the USA). It can be...

Is there any reason not to do this in a car: DC-AC-DC over DC-DC?

Thanks guys! And they said perpetual motion couldn't be done! ;)
  18. MullerEnergy-Australia

Is there any reason not to do this in a car: DC-AC-DC over DC-DC?

I just wanted to confirm I'm not missing anything. Assuming you have a LiFePO4 battery and an AC charger, is there any reason not to hook up an inverter and connect the AC charger to it, rather than having a dedicated DC-DC charger? The only two things I can see are the following: Convenience...

The vaccinated are more likely to catch Covid

Absolutely! A death rate of 1% (and I would argue that once hospitals are over capacity) equates to a quarter of a million deaths in Australia alone. Say you know 300 people. Would you rather 3 of your friends, family and acquaintances die at random or be a bit bored at home, watching Netflix?

The vaccinated are more likely to catch Covid

I love how people that struggled through year 10 science are suddenly immunology and virology experts that know more than scientists. All this makes as much sense as Qanon members waiting for the return of JFK. But then, I guess there's a significant overlap in people that believe both.
  21. MullerEnergy-Australia

Do I really need a DC-DC or can I go with a high power alternator?

I'm not sure if that is true. A high power alternator will only draw a tiny bit more power for, say a 50W load, than a low power one would.

    Beware @Michael B Caro

I agree that he never set out to do anything dishonest, however from a customer perspective, he's the responsible party here, not his suppliers. What I referred to (assuming that you were responding to my post) as looking for new business was the Facebook post from two days ago.
  23. MullerEnergy-Australia

    Beware @Michael B Caro

I saw that pop up in a group and was a little disappointed to be honest. As a fellow battery and cell seller, I was sympathetic to his situation first, as it can be difficult getting Chinese business partners to hold up their end of the agreement. And I do believe him that he's not the cause of...

    What BMS with on/off switch?

Yes, but the JBD version (not the Overkill rebranded) seems to be missing that connector. There are also pictures with the heatsink off and it looks like the PCB surrounding it is unpopulated, so I don't think it's as simple as soldering to it.
  25. MullerEnergy-Australia

    What BMS with on/off switch?

I'm in need of a 100A 4s LiFePO4 BMS where I can turn off discharging at times (I don't mind if this turns off charging too or not) by using an external on/off switch. Are there many options? The Overkill BMS seems to support this, but I haven't found a JBD BMS that does (even though overkill...

    DIY LiFePO4 Starter Battery?

Fair enough. The good thing about this approach is that it's modular, so you can have anywhere between one and 10 (I think, I'll have to check the maximum amount) of batteries in parallel. The cheapest option is still to DIY, if you're into that sort of thing.

    Australia: 202Ah Lishen cells A$190, 272Ah Lishen cells A$250

Cells are sold with an Australian warranty and come with an Australian invoice. The cells are located in north-western Sydney and can either be picked up or shipped Australia wide. The 202Ah cells generally test in the 206Ah to 210Ah range and the 272Ah cells in the 280 to 286Ah range. Come...

    DIY LiFePO4 Starter Battery?

Unfortunately no, given that they're a Daly BMS, they do not. I have to say that I'm not a big fan of serial connections on LiFePO4 batteries either, if you have a single bad/low cell in any of the four batteries, it will pull all of the battery packs down to the same performance of the worst...

    DIY LiFePO4 Starter Battery?

Will do! It will be "Muller Energy". We're trying to expand into the battery market further, initially we were just selling cells, but we're getting a 12V 200Ah custom-made battery shortly and the starter battery will be our next offering. We felt like there were a lot of cheap (but also low...

    DIY LiFePO4 Starter Battery?

Given that you're linking an Australian website, I wanted to let you know that we're working on an innovative new LiFePO4 starter battery that uses supercapacitors to start your engine and the battery to keep the caps charged. The innovative part about it is that even if you accidentally leave...

    16s parallel BMS needed (120A+)

    16s parallel BMS needed (120A+)

But the cells are even rated at 2C for 30s, so I'm not going outside the specs. I'm just saying that these are likely fine to draw 2C continuously, going by other prismatic cells I've played with. But that's not what I'm proposing here at all and I am staying inside the specs. Even if one...
