Simple swap out lead acid -> LiFePo4

Deeuubee: You described in words, pretty much exactly what I'm going to do (see diagram above). I'm sure other people who use their RVs differently than we will will ultimately want a more refined/automated solution, I think this one is pretty much perfect. I already have my 206ah cells and...

Simple swap out lead acid -> LiFePo4

Just about the time you posted this, I "finished" my basic diagram for my additions. Not sure if it's right yet since I haven't had several days to look at it and doubt myself. For my use case I think this is the PITA factor I'm willing to put up with....i.e., putting the battery and Victron...

Connection from Alternator to House battery

Just a quick question..... In your standard travel trailer with a 60 amp FLA house battery and 7 pin connection, where does the wire coming from the tow vehicle alternator ultimately connect in the trailer? Does it connect directly to the positive terminal of the house battery? Thanks.

Charging and top balancing with 10A bench power supply

Adding this for the benefit of anyone who might read this thread in the future looking for info on top balancing. Just an update, It took the better part of 3 days to top balance my 206AH pack with a 10 amp bench power supply (I've ordered a 30 amp Victron). A couple of key observations...

Simple swap out lead acid -> LiFePo4

I think I've settled on a solution that will work for us. I believe I will retain the lead battery on the tongue to run the brakes while en route. I'll also add my 206AH DIY LiFePo4 pack to the trailer by way of a 3 position switch and a couple of bus bars. That way, when we get to camp, I...

Understanding OverKill Solar 4S BMS Settings

the "Single cut off voltage" is on the parameter view page (accessed from the hamburger menu), most of the way down the page. It's also on the "Params Setting" page, near the bottom. I'm using the Android version of the app.

Simple swap out lead acid -> LiFePo4

Exactly! I'm balking at the thought of leaving easily removable $1000 pieces of equipment with the TT while it's in storage. Consequently, for now, I'm doing one of Will's milk crate assemblies so I can just set it in the equipment bay of the trailer when we arrive at camp and plug it in with...

Understanding OverKill Solar 4S BMS Settings

I'm currently doing a capacity test on my 206AH pack using the Overkill 4S BMS. Since I can never leave well enough alone, I started reading about low voltage cutoffs for cells and the pack. Is it fair to say that the values for Nominal Capacity and Cycle Capacity will not affect the point...

Simple swap out lead acid -> LiFePo4

As far as chargers go, I'm seriously thinking about going with the Victron IP22 12/30 charger for the LiFePo4 battery and simply plugging that into my inverter generator if I want to top up the battery while we're out in the sticks. That way, I can also take my expensive charger home with me to...

Simple swap out lead acid -> LiFePo4

Ok so, here's the use case. 23 foot travel trailer, 2021 Jayco. Will be used almost exclusively for weekend (<3 days) boondocking. Tow vehicle 2017 Tacoma, V6 with tow package. The question is, if I were to simply replace the 12V/60Ah lead acid battery that sits on the tongue with a DIY...

Charging and top balancing with 10A bench power supply

Thanks again. I kind of thought those events would occur but didn't want to sit here watching my new cells cook, not realizing I was doing something wrong. I watched videos where the PS would go directly to CV when connected to a paralleled pack of cells and the display would be around 4 amps...

Charging and top balancing with 10A bench power supply

Thanks Paul. So, when the voltage begins going up on the PS display, the amps will begin to decrease and the PS will switch to CV mode? Sam

Charging and top balancing with 10A bench power supply

Well, I think I've read all the related threads about this topic and am encountering a condition I don't understand. I have 4 new 206 AH LiFePo4 Cells which arrived at between 3.265 and 3.269 volts each. I believe this is pretty standard and represents a (roughly) 50% state of charge. I have...

Want to add a LiFePO4 Battery to new TT

The wife and I are expecting our first....Jayco X213 to deliver any day now and I've been putting some thought towards adding a LiFePO4 battery for boondocking. I want to keep it simple and configurable. My thought is that I want to be able to leave the tongue mounted lead acid battery in...
