EG4-LL 12v V2 vs Electric winch and windlass

I prefer to use the engine starter battery for the winch. The engine is usually running while using the anchor winch; so will be charging the winch/starter battery.

    Energy Efficient Heater

Since you are using a 2000 watt heater I am assuming you are heating a small space. (more info?). The most efficient space heaters are oil filled. As Punchy Sunshine said for a small space; an oil filled space heater and an electric blanket, under a quilt, are the way to go.

    Sailboat batteries: EVE/CALB or Fortune/Winston?

My power boat is not fast; Hull speed= 9.4 mph, top speed= 20mph, economical cruising speed= 8.5mph Not fast but for those used to sail boats; being able to maintain over 8mph 24/7 it's great.

    Sailboat batteries: EVE/CALB or Fortune/Winston?

You are free to do what you like. I tend to take the advice of people who have more experience than I have. Here is an excerpt from: https://nordkyndesign.com/assembling-a-lithium-iron-phosphate-marine-house-bank/ "Single 3.2V prismatic LiFePO4 cells can nowadays be obtained in huge capacity...

    Sailboat batteries: EVE/CALB or Fortune/Winston?

Large cells have been known to be damaged on ocean voyaging vessels by violent motion. Smaller cells have smaller internal mass. If you have ever been caught in a storm and your boat is falling off of waves you can understand the inertia of a larger mass over the inertia of the smaller mass in...

Air gap mounting for flexible panels

Thanks for your replies everyone. Tito's method is nice and clean looking. I wonder how much difference there is in heat dissipation. I am looking for a way to mount that helps with heat dissipation and holds the panels rigid. I think I will get some corrugated plastic like 'Tito' did and...

Air gap mounting for flexible panels

Has anyone have experience / opinions on how to provide an air gap under flexible panels to allow for air flow to underside of panels for cooling. This is for an installation where weight is an issue so flexible panels are required.

    50' Gulfstar sloop "B-Hoppy"

You are going to have a lot of shading from the masts, booms etc. I believe the original sail plan for the Gulfstar 50's were ketch rigged. Has the boat been re-rigged? Much depends on how you plan to use the boat; in marina, day sails. weeks long cruises, long range voyaging.

I have assembled my own pwm controller and included it (pwm) and other controls 'Nav. /anchor lights' into a weather resistant control box. It is not waterproof; if it gets submerged I have a lot more problems than my pwm. I have a shunt for amps and volts included . All for approx. $50.00...

    Speed controller

If your trolling motor has settings for different speeds it uses resistors to control the power to the motor. At top speed it has no resistors in the circuit. If you install the pwm on the unmodified trolling motor you set the trolling motor controll for full/top speed.

Those units mostly state 60 amps. That would be good for a 30lb. trolling motor; about 30 amp at full power. For around $30.00. You might want to google 'PWM for trolling motor'.

    Charging a 48V bank?

Setups like that never steer well. The prop wash only effects one side of the rudder and is so far away it isn't much force on that side. If you put an outboard on the transom it will steer under motor much better.

    Charging a 48V bank?

I really don't see the need for two motors on a little sharpie like the meadowlark. I would go with one motor. Save your $s and have some fun!

    Charging a 48V bank?

Make sure your batteries can handle the amp draw at full throttle; or there is a way you can limit the amp draw. The last thing you want is to be trying to work off of a lee shore and to lose your motors. You don't have time to wait for your bms to reset...
