    Skoolie solar install thread

Oh nice. I had to look both terms up (laminar air flow and CFD). Its good that you’re able to be thorough. I’m curious to learn the results of the CFD. Any idea what data he’ll feed it? Just object dimensions or can he give it assembly details like (for example) metal type/fastener type etc?

Nice job! Do you plan on putting some kind of wind baffles or deflectors around it? That seems like a lot of open space for drafts to have a potentially damaging effect.

8 cells - same BMS or can they be different?

Will's older videos may have been superseded by more current videos where he learned better ways of doing things. Keep this in mind and check the date/description of his videos. You may need to look for his newer videos on the topic.

8 cells - same BMS or can they be different?

Its possible for them to get out of balance at mid or low states of charge, but upon a full charge they will balance out at the top. The BMS will see them as 1 cell. The voltage on the parallel busbar will be sourced from both cells. 4s2p = 4 in serial (4s) x 2(p) of those connected in...

8 cells - same BMS or can they be different?

yes. It's called 2p. yes. b1+b2 in parallel = cell bb1. no, but that is the case with traditional lead acid batteries. No idea what I'm looking at here. Which terminals are positive, which negative? They will need to be paralleled and serialized right to properly share the load across the cells.

ATS causing power surge inverter damage.

Can you elaborate? Seems to me like there should be some configurable delay rather than just flat slamming power over. I mean, unless it synchronizes waveforms...

    Grounding theory question

The purpose of a ground is to allow high current to flow so that in the event of a short, a breaker can trip. A ground conductor should be attached to something massive (literally, large mass) so that it can absorb and dissipate all that charge without becoming charged itself. Earth is the best...

Indeed. A good reason to start with an energy audit.

    Cinergi's 28 kWh / 4 kW Solar / 10 kW inverter RV build

Assuming you're using the meter right and assuming it isnt capable of the low resistance measurement that should be that size copper conductor (whatever it is), I would venture to say its real copper. There's a thread on here by @RayfromTX where he determined some of his busbars were not copper...

New to solar trying to figure out what I need

Sounds like the large loads are the well pump, your compressor, and maybe the fans for the air conditioner. You need to know what the surge for starting each of these loads is. In my signature is a link to do an energy audit. It's just a spreadsheet for you to list each of your loads and to...

    750 Mile Range EV

No idea, but they're claiming 750 miles on a single charge. I haven't seen any other EV do that. Is it smoke and mirrors? I don't know.

    16 EVE LF280K (3.2V 280Ah) Cells

Its most likely compromised because of the low voltage, not because the discrepancy between charger and multi-meter. there could be any number of reasons for that, namely that the charger pushes a higher voltage to charge the cells. if guid takes the voltage at the charger terminal with his...

In forum terms, a thread that has not been commented on for 2 years is indeed ancient or even dead, yes. If you want to judge your age based on forum age, then I guess youre also ancient. ?

    Good news for Farmers?

I suspect work-from-home will also decrease demand from the grid as more and more homes install solar and fewer and fewer large corporate buildings have to power lights, office equipment, and environmental systems. Reality is, even when we're at work, the home A/C is usually still doing its...

    I'm a MAJOR neewbee

Here's one way to consider it, if you go with 6 enjoybot you'll get slightly more power storage (~21kWh vs ~19kWh). I'm surprised youre going with a giandel inverter for such a large system. If you dont want to spend the money on a victron inverter, maybe consider samlex brand. they make a...

    24V system - pick off from 12V

if you want to go deeper and maybe better design/plan your system, answer michael's question, otherwise parallel them and call it a day. The latter may require replacing your SCC depending on its rating and how much solar you have, though. I suggest letting Michael guide you.

Does this schematic of my project contain planning errors?

Fuses are to protect wires. If a device manual calls for a 250A fuse, size your wire and fuse accordingly. Otherwise, 2000W / 24V plus 25% headroom is a suitable rule of thumb for determining fuse and wire size. You may even want to account for an additional 10% inefficiency if you plan on...

Does this schematic of my project contain planning errors?

There's a voltage drop calculator in my signature. Use it to determine the wire size you need. At first glance, it serms like 2/0 is overkill for your MPPT-battery connection. Note that length means the total length of the circuit round trip (bat pos to load pos, load neg to bat neg). So for...

    Stupid balancing question...

it's worth doing, but the whole, charge to 3.65, let settle, charge to 3.65, let settle again, repetitive nonsense is unnecessary. Series is great to get them most of the way more quickly, but this is also just one more time youre torquing those soft aluminum threads. put them in parallel and...

    Stupid balancing question...

I set mine to start balancing at 3.35. If you allow a long absorb stage, they will balance longer and each cycle will bring them more in line with each other.
  33. D

    Stupid balancing question...

LFP stay at 3.2V for most of their usable capacity. one cell could be 3.2V @ 80% soc while another could be 3.2V @ 50% soc. With no voltage difference, no current will flow between them. They won't balance with each other. Getting them to a nearly full soc will allow current to flow, but with a...
