Anyone working with the Overkill Solar Arduino lib?

Just in case anyone wants one, I uploaded my PCB design and the ESPHome code to GitHub. You can have JLPCB make the PCBs and they will put on all the surface mount stuff. https://github.com/porchthecoder/OverKillBMS_ESPHome

Anyone working with the Overkill Solar Arduino lib?

They look good. No errors. Let me know if you want any.

Anyone working with the Overkill Solar Arduino lib?

I just ordered the above. Let me get them in (about 2 weeks) and check for errors before sharing.

Xiaoxiang's "Charge Balance" / Overkill Solar's "Balance only when Charging"

Based on what I am seeing in my batteries, the small mount of discharge current the Overkill uses to balance the batteries is basically doing nothing. I am adding a Heltec to all my packs.

Anyone working with the Overkill Solar Arduino lib?

Nice Grafana graphs. I like the hours remaining. This PCB was a "lets bang it out quick because there will always be a revision 2" style prototype. So my picks of components was based on what I could get designed and made quickly in EasyEDA/JLPCB. There seems to be two types of ESP32 dev...

    Active balancer or not?

I added the Heltec S16 right at the 13:13 mark. I guess it's working.

Anyone working with the Overkill Solar Arduino lib?

Current ones are taken, but I plan to make a few more. I don't need any displays as ESPHome feeds it to an MQTT server, and that spits it to Grafana. And the battery packs sit in a plastic tub. But I was thinking of adding some LEDs. I can add some pins for a display to the next batch if you...

Anyone working with the Overkill Solar Arduino lib?

Ya, I made the PCBs. I have a few packs I want to monitor so I didn't want to hand solder that many. I was having an issue with the old library reading low voltage on everything. New library fixed that issue. The new library does have bug I fixed around type casting of min, but that just might...

Anyone working with the Overkill Solar Arduino lib?

Thanks. After a bit of fiddling, I got the https://github.com/FurTrader/Overkill-Solar-BMS_2-Arduino-Library library imported into ESPHome and got it working that way.

Anyone working with the Overkill Solar Arduino lib?

Got it figured out and working with ESPHome.

Anyone working with the Overkill Solar Arduino lib?

Anyone get this working with generic MQTT server? I could not find an option with the AWS_IOT for none MQTT/S, so I started with a normal MQTT client (PubSubClient), but everytime I even load in the BMS with "OverkillSolarBms bms = OverkillSolarBms();", it boot loops with "Guru Meditation Error...

    Solar setup indoors?

Your local electrical and building codes will define what you can install inside a living space. You may also need emergency disconnects that must be accessible by fire personnel. I don't personally call it safe as if something overheats and catches fire, I don't want my home to fill with...

    Off-grid house with a shop

Looks really nice. Anytime I see conduit, that gets a thumbs up from me. Did you split your array into two strings? Running a single string, all in series, but having them mounted on different angles is going to hurt the power output greatly.

Cheap chinese horizontal wind turbine, an in depth exploration.

Ah, I see now. The Joules standard is not just shock, but reaction to other influences, as in shorts. Good thinking. Does it also cover physical damage as in a cell phone battery getting ruptured? As to the testing on the generator. I have been informed by the moderator that "ANY dc voltage can...

if a 48V battery can be lethal, how about a 40V panel?

I never said 48v is perfectly safe. I am stating the electrocution risk (and only that risk) is low to none existent. It's classified as low by many government electrical standards world wide. You can in fact, take your sweaty hands and touch both sides of a 48V led acid battery and not end up...

Cheap chinese horizontal wind turbine, an in depth exploration.

Very good numbers. But the threshold is also the conductivity of the human skin and (that can change changes). A 1.5V AA cell does have the potential to kill you in amps, but the voltage is so low, it can't deliver the the amps to your body. So we don't worry about any protection when touching...

if a 48V battery can be lethal, how about a 40V panel?

Well I am about to get banned for not following the "ANY dc voltage can kill under the wrong circumstances" line. So to everyone else, please do your research and look up the electrical code for your country and follow the safety standards for the voltage you are working at. Good luck to you all.

Cheap chinese horizontal wind turbine, an in depth exploration.

Capacitors are just small batteries. They don't hold much of a charge, but can be discharged and charged many times per second without harm. If you have it wired how I stated, the light is across the cap (connected in parallel), so once you stop spinning the turbine, the input power will stop...

if a 48V battery can be lethal, how about a 40V panel?

I am all about being safe. I am the one that keeps bring up the none-code complaint inverter installs Will is showing, and everyone on this form goes "It's DIY, nobody is expected to follow code when you DIY.". But a 9V battery, at 9V can't hurt you unless you eat it. 48V does not cause...

if a 48V battery can be lethal, how about a 40V panel?

Next to melting stuff (and that can be done at 6V), please explain how 48V is deadly.

if a 48V battery can be lethal, how about a 40V panel?

Agree on the dry conditions. But it is continuous output. No difference then a battery or a few solar panels in series. He did touch 170V DC across his body. A 9v battery can't hurt you as the 9v voltage is not enough to overcome the resistance even in wet skin. Yep. Just licked a 9v battery...

if a 48V battery can be lethal, how about a 40V panel?

Dangerous how? I can and have touched both end of my 48v battery bank and I am not dead. This guy touches 170v DC.

3 Ton AC unit how much energy?

This right here. Let the utility company be the battery. This is by far the most cost effective way to do it.

Cheap chinese horizontal wind turbine, an in depth exploration.

Alternators run higher then that as they are driven faster then engine RPM. But that problem can be solved somewhat with a pulley and cogged belt.

3 Ton AC unit how much energy?

How about telling us why you want to take only your AC off grid?

3 Ton AC unit how much energy?

Just FYI. Out of all the things to take "off grid" you are picking about the worse one.

The capacitors you ordered. Or "caps". See my wiring info above on how to wire it.

Cheap chinese horizontal wind turbine, an in depth exploration.

Don't be sad until you A) Use the cap in this circuit B) Put 4 of the 12v lights in series to make a 48v light.

New Guy, Whole house solar DIY

Just a few comments. 1) It's far more cost effective to save power, then to generate it. Adding insulation, changing out the single AC to split units, converting to gas appliances, double pane windows, etc are all things that will save you money in the long run, and once you figure in the cost...
