Inflation Reduction Act may be Unconstitutional - Take your Credits ASAP

Ross Perot was strong on it (paying it back). Ronald Reagan was for paying it off but was soft on that and in fact spent a lot on Star Wars (which did produce a good result) Bill Clinton was more energetic about not raising the national debt, but also soft on reducing it. BushJr said nice things...

    Victron 12/1200VA

When the coffeemaker heating element cycled off “as the coffee finished” there was a moment in time where some pixies didn’t have a destination and an imbalance H to N happened. It may not happen again consistently, but it could. Annoying perhaps, but not necessarily a safety concern. Is it...

I don’t know. But I like the idea. 2400W seems anemic for a septic pump and a well pump imho

    Help with quote/ panel brand

How many panels? Is that including installation? …permits? …mounting? $43.5k seems like a whole lot of money for a system that doesn’t mention batteries. REC is decent stuff (recently installed 20kWh of battery bank and 12kW split phase for someone local. 6600W of panels. Offgrid. Well under...

Safe cheap transfer switching with LVD in small system

You need at least 400-600W of panels to ….and 230Ah @ 12V nominal is maybe one day of a typical newer residential fridge. For $38 buy it and rest it. First things first though you need to add 600W of panels minimum imho. Eliminate the possibility of going dead. At 50% ‘headroom’ that’s...

    Simple shed system question

GFCI is still ‘smart’ I really enjoy the QZRELB 2000W for low idle and dependability. It appears to not want to be bonded, but it works flawlessly upstream of a GFCI.

    Negative terminal bus bar help

I’m not sure about your system so I’m not clear on giving the “obvious” answer 1) is that a single ‘rack battery? No more? 2) voltage of system? 3) voltage of battery(-ies)?

    Halfway wiring method

LiFePo4? While you don’t want long battery cable runs to the busbar or between busbar and inverter, ideally each battery to busbar cable will be the same length. With a busbar this is irrelevant imho. Just go to the busbar. I have landed inverter cables directly on the busbar, and landed SCC...

DC vs PV Solar Disconnect wiring difference?

I’m not reading that diagram that way. I’m assuming that the Letter Monikers A-F are expounded upon in the instructions for that breaker. I’d peruse the instruction sheet until you make some correlations as to what the diagrams are referenced to.

    Simple shed system question

FWIW I have a 2000W Reliable/QZRELB psw inverter. It WILL start my shop vac (as did a Giandel 1200W psw) and if the (LiFePo4) batteries are 13.3+ or the sun is full out it will run my makita compound mitre and a Delta 15A cast iron tablesaw. (I’m curious what your measured idle draw is)...

Can it be done? Bluetti + Redodo + BougeRV + Bus

“Nominal Voltage” I think of rigid panels as being less easily damaged… and much longer lasting. FWIW my camper is ~8’ wide 24’ long. I used to have my lead acid batteries outside but I have 5kWh inside to not get too cold to charge. They don’t use that much space up imho.

Sanity check - 48V off-grid for summer cottage

Not for in depth capacity monitoring but functionality wise you’ll be fine that will be an expensive flight to just install a breaker…. Ahem. Anyway, back to serious: Does the battery have its own breaker or fuse(s)? If not I’d want a Class T fuse or ten-bazillion meghan-Amp rated breakers...

Set up battery Lv6048 Inverter :Help:

Read the LV6548 manual once mid morning for three days. While doing so write down a very short synopsis of your questions as you read. That will create repetitive absorption and some questions will be answered over that process. Then summarize your three pages into one page- writing it down-...

Can it be done? Bluetti + Redodo + BougeRV + Bus

For your sake I wish you’d asked first! To do what you are attempting and interconnect non-system batteries might not be able to be done. For the money you spent, however, it could easily be done at less money and more capacity. What does Bluetthi CS say about using non-proprietary batteries...

Portable Solar Setup for 48 Volt System. Need voltage boost.

I’d never touch those with a 9-1/2 pole …nor that brand I’d just get an MPP or go to Victron or something. I’d still want more panels, too, but if you’re set on using so few watts that finding something better isn’t attractive I’d just change brands; lucky strike, chesterfield, benson&hedges….

Has anyone had any luck reselling panels locally?

Yup. Sketchy citified folks move to Vermont. They don’t really fit in, but they parallel readily with the greasy woodchucks in spite their differences. If a visual, some conversation, and my Klein meter don’t convince them pretty quickly I don’t trust people. I learned years ago to always meet...

Sanity check - 48V off-grid for summer cottage

Yes. Plus it is ‘technically’ split phase in case you ever go to that your generator “can only do” ~16A @ 120VAC so literally 12AWG would work. I assume it has either nema 5-15 outlet and 15A breaker native on the generator, or perhaps a 5-20 with a 20A breaker. Nevertheless, the way *I* would...

Has anyone had any luck reselling panels locally?

Not often. People are sketchy and weird. If you don’t take payments before ordering I sit on them a while because nobody wants to pay a fair price. I have spare 300W panels here in Vermont right now for pretty cheap. But people no-show or ghost, or say stupid things like, “I’ll pay $500 for...

Sanity check - 48V off-grid for summer cottage

The ‘other’ 50/100A Homeline panel (blue addressing label) instead of the qo series you show is a tad different and costs about the same. I’d do that. With 4AWG feeding it you won’t need a main breaker imho. Bridge the two busses. Use twin breakers where you can, 15A will click out easy for 12/2...

Portable Solar Setup for 48 Volt System. Need voltage boost.

330W is like 20/25% of what you need, right? Just guessing re: the 6000W output statement. Two 300W panels in series will be somewhere around 90V which will charge 48V just fine and be ~3000Wh a day in good sun.

Maybe that’s the AIO specs? LV6548 specifies 4awg and 50A breaker for example… 3ga will not even fit.

    Small scale project

Right. I don’t know what the factored budget is, and I’m assuming 120VAC is not required- just some lights and a place to cook. Wildhat guessing here, not factoring for heating two cabins and seven yurts since that wasn’t a mentioned goal: $80 propane stove, a 30# cylinder, minimal solar...

    Heavy duty ring terminals?

I’ve bought similar tinned versions. FWIW Windy Nation terminals on amazonian have been decent quality, and ‘I think’ Will has a code in the what to buy links so he can get a coupla cents for your purchases. (Thank you Will) Anyways, I also use an oversized die to swage down the belled end...

    Small scale project

Not specifically safer than 48V but safer because of an uncontrolled “public” heat buildup ‘could’ be an issue if going midshelf commodity like Giandel or Reliable/QZRELB I’d probably want a 2500W or 3000W QZRELB but a cheaper MSW could be used for resistance heating. Electric seems less...

How close are these structures? Close enough for one single 500gal propane? Or conversely, close enough to connect with underground wiring? While a big array of vertical panels will thwart snow ceasing production, but there’s also the factor of avoiding people using 120VAC for ‘other’...

    Heavy duty ring terminals?

Amazon also has decent products if you ‘shop’ a bit and find what you’re looking for. Yes! I have a very useful “lever” hex crimper but it’s, umm, import. Affordable. Often, I have to select the size according to how well it crimps a particular barrel, and sometimes have to two-step it. Plus...

Need some guidance before I pull the trigger

Leave the existing backfeed systems running… accessible is defined in NEC i myself would leave the existing services in place, and run a new panel to feed from your backup power system that will switch to off grid-side anyway if grid is down. But maybe space for panels is an issue? I’d...

    Solar panel advice

Look at some 325W panels and see if you can’t 2S some to ‘match’ your 650’s more closely. On the other hand, you could buy whatever you want along with an appropriate Epever or Victron or Ampinvt SCC and just plumb them in to the battery bank directly.

    Maine Inspectors

My friend’s brother lived in hotel rooms in Maine for like a year recently. He’s an electrician from ‘here’ (Vermont) so I’d guess the market is broadly empty of Maine electricians that install solar like he does. Dunno?
