Future of DIY LiFePO4 looks bleak…

I do get your point fafrd and I appreciate your efforts as an exercise in market analysis and insight.

Wow is all I can say

for me masking, how it works, what masks work and why were perfectly illustrative of how willfully ignorant most people are in this country. Well after it was established that only a proper fitting N95 mask is the only mask that offers any sort of actual protection from Covid in the air, the...

Voltage drop across blue sea fuse

I know it’s not cheap…. But you could see if the voltage drop is repeatable with another identical fuse.

    Sunny Boy and Sunny Island

You definitely have something exceptional going on there. My country settings are all locked and require grid guard.

Interesting. I will check that out.

    Sunny Boy and Sunny Island

Can you please elaborate? When you say signed into the inverter’s web interface, you mean logging into the inverter via wifi and then signing in as the installer? Did you do this after your initial commissioning period?

Caution Before Purchasing Victron from XYZ Distributor!

If you read the title of the thread, there is no mention of seeking resolution here. The post served to inform users here of a rather terrible experience with victron. If he gets resolution, then he will take the post down. Like others have already mentioned, I don’t regularly read the...

Boat Batteries – Help me Make a Final Decision

I would look at larger cheap drop ins. 3x100ah batteries means a lot of cabling, and you have to be careful with cable lengths etc. there are some decent 300ah batteries that have low temp cutoff and offer reasonable charge/discharge. Will you have draw 300 amps for any extended period of...

    Sol-Ark's Comment on EG4 18k-PV-12-LV

Correct. Sol Ark charges what the market will bear, and they have plenty of customers. If the EG4 18k has legs in the long run in terms of reliability , then I suspect they will have to come down on their pricing. Lord knows there’s plenty of margin for them to do so. LF inverters like the...

    Sol-Ark's Comment on EG4 18k-PV-12-LV

Of course. But this is not the issue many folks have with Sol Ark. I don’t buy things off if AliBaba.

EG4 new AIO rated 12K output and 18kPV aka "EG4-18Kpv-12LV"

@SignatureSolarJames I’m interested in using this inverter with batteries that I currently have using SMA Sunny Islands. I’m doing this with a REC Bms which is communicating via CAN with the inverters using SMA’s CAN protocol. I can get the BMS to use the Victron protocol as well. I know...

    Sol-Ark's Comment on EG4 18k-PV-12-LV

I understand quite well how business works, but thanks. My point is that IF Sol Ark didn’t have an exclusive deal with Deye in NA, then the same exact units would cost roughly to a little more than half of what they sell them for…. Off the boat here in the US. What I take issue with is the...

    Sol-Ark's Comment on EG4 18k-PV-12-LV

Yes, this is what turns me off to SolArk as well. Sure they may be tweaking a few things here and there, but their units are Deye inverters. Most people interested enough in solar and alternative energy enough to actively participate here know this already. I don’t own any SolArk or EG4...

Connecting 48v battery to High Voltage HV hybrid inverter

It’s definitely possible, but maybe not so easily as an end user/diyer. Some high voltage battery packs such as the LGchem resu are in fact 48v packs with bidirectional DC-DC converter. If you try to find such a device capable of doing what you want, you will quickly find that they’re...

    Solar awning?

There are several domestic companies that offer carports intended for solar. I sort of went this route by building a solar canopy in my backyard with a nice patio underneath. I used to have some nice trees offering shade in that area, so I get that now with the benefit of a decent amount of...

    Marine LiFePO4 with CANbus?

Lithionics, victron, mastervolt and some others. All are absurdly expensive, just like the ones you’re trying to avoid buying. You could diy a pack and have canbus with REC, Orion, Emus etc. What you then need to consider is that having canbus does not mean that the bms you want speaks the...

Source for 400A class T fuse?

https://www.raleighev.com/online-store/Ferraz-Shawmut-Mersen-ISC375-Fuse-Holders-p308146155 They have another block for sale there at a very attractive price relative to other sources such as Gordon electrical supply, however I couldn’t verify the stud distance so I bought the above. My...

automatic switch between solar and generator in off grid system

Depends on your inverter, which you did not specify in your post. Many inverters have the ability to start and stop a generator based on SOC and load demands. If this is the case, then finding a suitable ATS is not terribly difficult. Again, in order to be more helpful, we would need to know...

    Top balancing for ages.

5 amps at 3.6vdc = 18 watts. You have a bank capacity of 14,880 watts. Let’s assume your cells started out at 50%. If you divide 7440/18 you get 413.333 AH. Divide that by 24 and you get about 17 days. Mind you this assumes a constant current of 5 amps. As the batteries get topped off and...

Sub panel questions for (4) Sunny Island 6048 for whole home backup

Ok I reread your post again and see your point about your custom lockout. I’m still not sure that would work for me though, as I would like to be connected to my batteries and to the grid at the same time in most cases, using battery power whenever possible.

Sub panel questions for (4) Sunny Island 6048 for whole home backup

Thanks Jay. Definitely some things to consider. I don’t see how this accomplishes what an ATS accomplishes though in the event of a grid failure. How are you not backfeeding the grid without manually switching a breaker? Am I missing something ?

Sub panel questions for (4) Sunny Island 6048 for whole home backup

I have been slowly building my backup/off grid sometimes system for the past year. Right now I have 30Kwh LiFePO4 storage with another 30 coming in the next year as I assemble that battery. I have two SI 6048’s and I will likely grab a couple more from a friend that has two he won’t be using...

iPad instead of Victron GX Touch

If you have a cerbo, then you can access directly over Wi-Fi via iPhone or iPad. If you set up vrm, and the cerbo is connected to a Wi-Fi network, then you can access from anywhere. Obviously connectivity is not always possible on a boat, however if the iPad is connected to the cerbo’s...

SOL-ARK features without the SOL-ARK price

You could look to see about getting a couple of Sunny Island 6048s. I picked up two last spring for $1500 a piece. You have to be patient, but they do come up for $2000 or less as people part out the solar trailers.
