LFP and Victron upgrade on 42" sailboat

Still feel like the windlass should be on a Gel or Mat battery so you can beat the heck out of it and not feel concern about the BMS. Could you increase the bow thruster battery bank and run both? By run both not to mean running both at the same time as that is unlikely. Making an assumption...

A Tentative Plan for This Old Boat...

If on a budget, and who isn't? Possibly consider these batteries that Will has on his site. Save you a few hundred to start. No they are not marine but as you state this is a trawler with an enclosed cabin and mounted high inside. Maybe in a sailboat at bilge level would not consider but have...

Boat Batteries – Help me Make a Final Decision

The article does not mention the lithium chemistry involved in the fires. LiFePO4 tends to be more stable and reliable than say Li-ion, which is more than likely what was used in those fires.

Boat Batteries – Help me Make a Final Decision

Also I wouldn't worry about 10-20 years. If any of these companies are around in 5 years, would be surprised. Also in 5 years salt or unobtanium batteries may be the new cheap hotness and you will swap out anyway. Just musings....

Boat Batteries – Help me Make a Final Decision

Are you on a sailboat or trawler? How far between ports would you be? What loads have you calculated? I am curious as to what you are working with as if you are in the Bahamas, you may not be more than a few hours from land. If you are in the Caribbean not more than a day or two. If open water...

    And let the solar begin

Would think it important to figure out the inrush current of the well pumps. Want to make sure enough can be supplied to run both at once, or setup so that only one can run at any given time. Either way make sure whatever inverter you choose can supply the current needed. Also maybe look at...

Back up system for natural gas furnace - Help with bypass

@Sneruh have you considered a transfer panel with a few more circuits? I installed this one, which is 4 circuits. Wanted to power some lights along with my furnace. It says its a Goal Zero but its just a PRO/TRAN 2 that they are branding. Transfer Switch

    2004 Ford E-150 Campervan Conversion

Sorry to hear all the downsides that you went through but happy that you were able to make something happen with all your investment. Another possible option. I've now had friends wish they had build out a utility trailer like @rmaddy or update a small used travel trailer with more PV, etc...

    12, 24 or 48v

I can see the advantage of having a separate 24v house system with a caveat as to certain load scenarios. Say you want to convert over to induction cooking and ditch the propane or alcohol stove. Seems most induction use up to 1500 - 1800 watts, on high at least. Add in a few items like a...

Picking brains...help with Engine swap to electric...32ft Cabin Cruiser

So nice starting point for some experimentation. Some may poo poo this idea but how about a hardtop over the flybridge consisting of solar panels? Say 2 350watt panels maybe would have enough coverage. Now I know that is adding 100lbs up high, but that isn't exactly a row boat you are mounting...

Picking brains...help with Engine swap to electric...32ft Cabin Cruiser

Example of a converted catamaran. A lot more deck space than a trawler to mount panels to regenerate power. Have been seeing more instances of electric boats but using diesel generator as power, basically how most locomotives operate.

    Renogy Battery Monitor cable connectors

In case anyone ever needs this info, found the correct connector. I did have to swap the pins on one end for it to work but easy enough. 12 Inches Length 2.54mm Pitch 5 Pin Female to Female All of this was so I didn't have to pack in 20ft of cable into a portable box.

Planning a Tiny Solar System for a Lovely Remote Place [PICS]

Not sure if you decided on 12v vs 24 volt yet. If you go 24v you can save money on an MPPT as they generally can input 2x the wattage. With your older 280 watt panels, they may only be @220? Anyway I have had luck using this MPPT and doesn't break the bank. MC2440N10 SRNE

    Renogy Battery Monitor cable connectors

Need some help identifying the connectors use on the Renogy Battery Monitor cable. It comes with a 20ft cable and I would like a 1ft cable without cutting up the original. Have experience with automotive connectors but small electronic connectors are not my bag. Connector is about 1.5cm wide. A...

    Tiny Home - 100watt

@Deep Fried Dad Where you live, does it get down to freezing temps? Lead Acid would be fine for those times where the temps dip but LFP would require a heated compartment or at least low temp cutoff. Have a wood stove? Do you have narrow budget restrictions or just trying to keep it as minimal...

595W mono perc Canadian Solar panel for Sprinter roof?

Always wondered about mounting with an open spring mount like this. Would allow the body of the van to twist without directly twisting the panel frame, at least within a reasonable distance. Mounting with simple rubber isolators I don't see where they would allow enough flex to make a huge...

Portable solar panels for travel trailer

Like @Rednecktek said you could strap some 100 watt panels together and fold them up. If you want to go a little further, I started making a folding set like the following. 100 Watt Newpowa panels that I bought on sale for @ $85. Hinged one side and butterfly latches and a kayak handle on the...

    Help on skoolie build

@Arkangel111 Are you considering a DC to DC converter also? There are 12v to 24v converters so you could go with that also. From your chassis battery 12v to the house battery 24v. Not sure if there are any 48v out there. Never looked. I say go 24v and don't look back.
  28. jbird526

    Help on skoolie build

Not sure why there is a 36v recommendation. There is very little equipment that you can purchase to work with that. 12, 24, or 48 is the way to go.

    Help on skoolie build

Went back and looked at previous posts. We're going to be leaning pretty heavy on the inverter since my wife ideally wants AC (not likely I know), a fridge and freezer (5 kids), heating, an induction cook top and daily used blender. Not to push you in a direction but think you are going to be...

    Help on skoolie build

Did not see anywhere that charging off a 12v to 12v DC to DC was integrated. Maybe I missed that. Would it really matter to stay with 12 volt if that is not the case? There seem to be plenty of 12v / 24v refrigerators or at least appears a few with a Google search. With larger loads 24v would be...

LiFePO4 Battery with an On/Off Switch and More?

I'd say good buy is a relative term. Depends on what you want to use it for. Are you looking for something that can act as a mobile power station? I don't have any experience with pouch cells, if that is indeed what is being used. I just know they need room to swell and contract. Didn't see...

Possible good deal on 100ah LFP

Going to put out this 100ah LFP that I just ran across on Newegg. The price is good and other than no low temp the quality "outside" looks good. Energy Lions 100ah LFP $309.99 Feeling like I am going to get beat up by the Photon Sorcerer's on this one... especially he who shall not be named.
