48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

No, I disconnected it so i could run the buck converter to that screw lug as a test this morning. As I said, everything has been working fine. That was never in question. I've been saying everything goes to the chassis. The problem is that the buck converter's instructions say NOT to. That is...

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

No, just disconnected from it's AC input and it's battery output/input. The white wire in the pic was disconnected, so at that point, yes. It's a bus bar welded to the frame, where all the lead acid batteries ground, as well as the wire from the DC panel. Two batteries, all to the bus bar...

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

Yes, that's what I tried this morning. I disconnected the converter from it's AC source to disable it. Then I disconnected the house batteries at the terminals, so it would then be safe to remove the cables from the DC fuse panel. It is to those points I ran the new converters 12v wires. Then I...

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

It's a magnetek 6345, here's a pic from the web that is exactly like mine: AC comes in from the top left. AC wires go from one of the circuit breakers down to the converter below. On the lower right, the DC wires come up to the upper right panel, on the back side, where you see the rivets right...

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

Yes, your first diagram is almost exactly like mine, but my rig is 30a, and the neg from the dc dist panel goes to the chassis, rather than directly to the neg on the battery. That's the only difference I can see. Your second diagram has a neg bus bar, mine does not.

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

The pos and neg wires come up from the ancient converter below, and onto the pos and neg of the DC fuse panel. Also on the DC fuse panel are a couple lugs, a pos and a neg, and from those lugs run heavier cables, one goes to the chassis, and the other to the positive of the house battery, after...

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

I sure hope there's some way to make this work other than running new grounds back from every light, pump, etc all over the rig.

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

Yep, that line is whole reason for this thread. I guess I'll try to contact the manufacturer, or post a question on amazon. @CamoGreg , it also says it can't charge the battery, so no battery on the 12v side. Which is fine in my case, I just want to run the loads.

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

See attached pic of the instructions. Yes, when I saw that I was pretty confused as well, it really threw a monkey wrench into the works. Maybe @CamoGreg is right.

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

So what to make of the instructions stating to not connect the ground to the chassis?
  11. R

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

So, what do do with the buck converter's ground? It says in the instructions NOT to, but the 12v devices won't have a complete circuit without it. Is there some kind of isolator or something I can put between the buck converter's 12v ground and the chassis to make it ok? I'm wondering if it has...

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

Ok, I'll ground it. Here's the new converter, 60 amp 48-12v. I'll let the BMS handle the shutoff, where I raised the low voltage disconnect to 2.55, and lowered the hvd to 3.6. The new converter will be replacing the magnatek.

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

If you mean the 48v battery, I didn't think it was necessary. Should I? Yes, both the old engine and house batteries are grounded to the chassis.

48v to 12v buck converter with common ground

Hi all, On my RV I have had my solar and 48v 280ah lifepo4 system with a Growatt running for a week now with no problems. The old 12v lead acid batteries for the engine and house are still in place. I plan to remove the old house battery, leaving only the engine battery. For 12 volt...

    Braided Aluminum Bus Bars

Hi all, Given that the terminals of my Keheng 280 cells are aluminum, I'd like to get braided bus bars, all aluminum construction, so I never need to worry about any sort of corrosion. It would be a permanent solution requiring no periodic cleaning. However, I can't seem to find any, and I don't...

Keheng 280 compression boxes for RV, all bells and whistles desired.

Pressing on, I'm building a 48 volt battery for my RV. I plan to compress my Keheng 280s using springs, even before the first top balance. It's not hard to imagine they are similar enough to the EVE 280s that they also would benefit from ~12 psi. If anyone has more data on them, I'd love to have...

Keheng 280 compression boxes for RV, all bells and whistles desired.

Hi folks, does anyone have data on the Keheng 280s as far as cell compression? I imagine they are similar enough to the eve 280s that 12 psi would do it. @Michael B Caro

    CATL 271Ah cell issues.

@Michael B Caro It has been over a week since you said my Kehengs would be shipped out by your daughter. Have they been sent, and do you have the tracking number? If she hasn't sent them yet, please be sure she remembers the bus bars, etc.

    CATL 271Ah cell issues.

@Michael B Caro did your daughter check the Kehengs? Are there 16 cells that are matched and undamaged, which is what I paid for? If so, can we get them on the way to me?

    CATL 271Ah cell issues.

Great, I have an order with you for 16 of those cells, delivered to you. Once you have them, how much will it cost to have them shipped to 89011?

Hello from USA, planning new system

The panels will be installed over the next few days, and I'm taking another look at the Growatts. Since it will probably be months until I get the battery cells, I'm considering changing from the 3000tl-lvm-48p to the 3000tl-lvm-es, since it can run without a battery, until I get the cells...

Results of testing new panels from Santan Solar

Hi Bud, used a multimeter and did the volts, then the amps, and that's what it gave me, and as you can see I just multiplied the numbers together. There was nothing else involved, just the panel, the multimeter, and the sun. If that's not how it's done, let me know what to do differently. I'm...

Results of testing new panels from Santan Solar

Hello everyone, I just received my panels, 250w T series snail trails, from Santan Solar. The package was undamaged, and I tested the panels immediately after unpacking. It was between 11am-noon, sunny, hot, about 100f degrees. I tested one panel at a time, laid flat on some unistrut, on a...

Hello from USA, planning new system

I agree completely. Some panels are crazy cheap now, but yeah, the $/w climbs quickly from the cheapo panels. I'm not so concerned about lb/watt so much to pay double, but I'm concerned enough to start with 2250w, run it like that a while, and see if that is enough. That's a lot of juice in a...

    LiFePO4 setup with 16 x 272 Ah Cells

Thanks a lot for taking a look, I was also having trouble interpreting what they had on their spec sheets. They just don't seem to make sense, and I had not come across EER till I started looking at them. I didn't know there was also a CEER lol. It's definitely not confidence inspiring enough to...

Hello from USA, planning new system

True but it's hard to turn down $0.18 for the snail trails.... If I do any sort of tilt mount my total capacity drops. In order to get 9 up there I have to do a two-tier setup. The top tier consists of a single line of panels running down the center of the roof, and below that are two side by...
