Midnite Solar Announced their new 10kw AIO at Intersolar Today

Maybe... Would love to do that ! 380V I think is the future for higher power stuff, at least. Some of these systems can get pretty big ! Sure it can be dangerous. I don't know how they handle that now but a few years ago, we had a HV LG lithium battery and one of our techs had to fly to...

Midnite Solar Announced their new 10kw AIO at Intersolar Today

No. HyperVoc is actually the input voltage that the Classic will tolerate (not operate) at ABOVE its rated operating input range. For example, the Classic 150, which runs and starts up at 150V and below can tolerate (but not turn on) at the nominal battery voltage PLUS 150V. If you had a 48V...

Midnite Solar Announced their new 10kw AIO at Intersolar Today

Ryan said that the MPPT range is up to 550V but turns on as high as 599V. That means it can run in Absorb and Float charging modes at just below 600V... Depending on the output current requirements in those voltage controlled modes, it could be running at around 580V or 590V or so. 599V would...

    RFI issue

Sounds like you have done well here ! Remember that adding a LOT of turns through the toroid can increase the capacitance from one side of that filter to the other side and possibly have diminishing returns. From S8 to S1 is significant I would say ! Maybe we need to have a DIY ham net some...

Midnight introducing Rosie the Inverter and Barcelona & Hawks Bay SCC

I would say to check or re-tighten once more after the first install. Wait 1 or 2 hours (while you're there thinking about it) should be good enough. I had not seen the "once a month" part but I know that re-tightening/torqueing an hour later is sometimes necessary with the CBI breakers...

60 amp mppt Amazon deal, 50% off

Well, that's not going to work too well for lead acid without a way to at least end Absorb automatically. And maybe only some lithiums ? boB

Hey everyone, another new idiot to solar mastery

The new solar idiot said: From what I read Tesla charging is a hassle because you cant run dc to dc car battery. It has to go from dc to ac back to dc. idk That's OK. Solar/PV is cheap and sunshine is free. You can eventually add more PV and get there. This is also my eventual plan. Hope...

    Runaway cells, sudden overvoltage

Are these batteries made to be able to put 4 in series to make 48V nominal ? The BMS's have a maximum voltage they can say, turn off at with other batteries in series. 36V + 12V = 48V so maybe there is something wrong with only one of those BMS/batteries ? boB

Solar panels under load drop to 37V from 66V

Does this 4 panel string have ANY shade on the panels at all ? That would certainly make the maximum power point lower.

Emf radiations and dirty electricity claims... solutions or ignore ?

Except when the DC is chopped up by either the MPPT charge controller or PWM type CC. Then it has some high frequency AC modulation. MPPT would be a lot more filtered than a PWM type CC. AC won't go to zero. The question then is levels. How much is too much. Also, what frequencies are...

Emf radiations and dirty electricity claims... solutions or ignore ?

Does your friend have this problem when going outside in the daylight ? Reason I ask is that light (sunshine) is EMF and quite a bit more energy and power than you are likely to encounter around the home. boB

    Current limiting

The inverter connects itself to the grid so that it can charge the batteries. The inverter tries to keep the energy flowing into the house but at low charging power, it is hard to keep it exactly balanced. If, at lower power draw from the grid, there are large load changes, the inverter may...

Sol-Ark 15K with 44x440W panels, Tigo Optimizers and Homegrid Stack'd 38.4kWh battery pack AMA

Yes, their old optimizers did it this way using Zigbee or Xbee I think it was. There were some issues with that wireless method but I don't know how much. Back when there were just optimizers, this would have been a much more reliable system. Their RSD devices use PLC over PV lines. boB

Sol-Ark 15K with 44x440W panels, Tigo Optimizers and Homegrid Stack'd 38.4kWh battery pack AMA

This problem is exacerbated by switching noise from the inverter and also keep alive signals from the RSD going down the line. I'm surprised though that the system has worked for this amount of time. Maybe because the PV is doing more because of the longer days and less clouds ? Are you...

Midnite Solar Announced their new 10kw AIO at Intersolar Today

What I did was to replace my picture with the MidNite logo. I notice your signature says MidNite Solar. I'm not sure if that might be enough ? Your NAME can contain MidNite in it somehow, too. Easy. boB

    Midnite Solar Rosie on sale

Yes, test software could be implemented in China and changed here. My old MX60 firmware (modified some after I left in 2005) was given to the Chinese manufacturer (again, after I was gone), and when OB Power sent the inverters and CC's off to India, that company that had made the entire product...

Where to find end amps on Midnite Classic 250?

How were you measuring this current ? Would be best if it was the Whizbang Junior amps and not the Classic internal shunt amps if you are running loads. But I have to ask. You may already have told us this. Sorry. That's the kind of curve I was looking for so nice ! boB

Thank you Oz ! Yes, we were both there. We also have a few ppl that also worked there working at MidNite Solar. Trace actually came out of the Pacific Northwest audio manufacturing business and we worked with the Originators of Trace back in the early 1970s. What great times ! boB

Midnite Solar Announced their new 10kw AIO at Intersolar Today

Transformer and power transistors can limit the surge power due to their ESR. (Effective Series Resistance) Heat dissipation, which is related to the resistance of components, ESR, is more of how long the power can stay up there. That is strictly from thermal time constants. A low frequency...

Midnite Solar Announced their new 10kw AIO at Intersolar Today

As far as I know, every battery based inverter out there have a transformer at least between battery side and HV inverter grid side. The PWM that makes the sine wave is always high-ish frequency. Usually greater than 20 kHz so it falls outside of the human hearing range. "Low Frequency" just...

Where to find end amps on Midnite Classic 250?

You might make a curve of battery current vs. time when the Classic is in Absorb to see if it gets far enough to drop to a flat-line of 5.3 amps or is it still coming down in current before the power drops enough that it goes back to Bulk MPPT. If it goes flat current vs. time in say, an hour...
