Is it practical to use golf carts with a large 15KWh batteries in a home Hybrid Solar system?

I was running like that with a 80s EZGo Marathon. I was terrified that the resistors would become a fire hazard at the increased voltage! The wheelies are terrifying on a 3-wheeler!

    Battery evo and big battery

Did you end up going with those batteries? Is A-123 still in business? These are listed as new cells but the company went bankrupt a few years ago? I just purchased 4 at the big sale and now you have me wondering how great of an idea it was. They are for a golf cart and the high advertised...

I know this is an old post but your battery packs are a work of art!

    3.3 KW off Grid System

I took off the MC4 connector of one of the two strings producing nothing. When I unscrewed and then tugged on it, the connector came off but the crimped piece let go of the wire and stayed in the plastic. ? I am fairly certain I have some bad connections on the roof. This is infuriating because...

    3.3 KW off Grid System

I pulled all 4 input strings and measured them. 94v, 94v, 30v, 3v. So 2 strings are worse than useless at the moment and I probably need to get back on the roof to debug them. I guess that is good news because that means there is some hope for improvement in the future. I left only the 2...

    3.3 KW off Grid System

Today I attempted to recharge my batteries instead of applying an AC load. I've been playing with it today, and SmartESS says I have made 4kwh of solar. The highest peak I saw was 1400w, which seems awful. My xiaoxiang bms app says I added about 1.5kwh to my batteries. The wattage the BMS saw...

    3.3 KW off Grid System

I attempted to charge my car but the charger gave me a ground fault. Thanks to all the help here, I was able to prove that I have a good ground when the inverter is plugged into the house system. My circuit was floating. So yesterday, I made a little bit of power!

How do You Test Inverter Output with a Multi-meter?

Thanks for the reply, you are definitely on the right track. It looks like my system was floating. Things work as long as the ground is tied to the house reference ground as you suggested.

Mini review of Xindun Power Low Frequency Inverter

It can be permanently plugged in. My goal is to use no mains power but I can manage that by not draining the batteries below 10%.

Mini review of Xindun Power Low Frequency Inverter

I set it into battery priority mode so it only uses mains power when the battery gets down to 10% and everything is working great. As long as it is plugged in, the circuit is not floating.

Mini review of Xindun Power Low Frequency Inverter

There is no documentation of the DC Loads but the voltage I measure on it makes it seem like it is the battery charging circuit. It is hot when the inverter is off (battery voltage) and the voltage goes up when the unit is on and charging. It's weird, I will never use it, and there is no...

Mini review of Xindun Power Low Frequency Inverter

Sorry that was confusing. I bet it is more accurate to say "Low Voltage" than "Split Phase." My inverter is only capable of outputting 120 (actually 110) @60hz. I measured (as described above) 110v, 75v, and 30v but I expected 110v, 0v, and 0v.

    Battery polarity is correct.

Mini review of Xindun Power Low Frequency Inverter

@AussieSim, could you please measure the output voltage across all the pins? I picked up a split-phase unit and L to N is 110V (good), L to PE is 75V (?!?) and N to PE is 30v (?!?) Cindy Lee is ghosting me.

How do You Test Inverter Output with a Multi-meter?

How do you test that an inverter is outputting properly with a multi-meter? I finally got my Xindun Power LSM-30248 up and running and am getting a ground fault indication on my car charger. Now the seller on alibaba seems to be ghosting me. This is for American Split-phase power. I have 110v...

    3.3 KW off Grid System

The only charging without a BMS was in parallel to a power supply limited at 3.65v. It is now in a 48v system with a BMS.

    3.3 KW off Grid System

This inverter might not be good enough. I have 110v from N to L, 75v from L to PE, and 30v from N to PE (at .48hz?!?). The air compressor is happy. The car charger is giving me a ground fault.

    3.3 KW off Grid System

All the DC side is functional (though my batteries are completely full so there is no charging happening yet). One more stop at the hardware store should flesh out my AC side. The battery switch is a 2 battery switch so I have #1 link to a pre-charge resistor that jumps to #2. As long as I...

    3.3 KW off Grid System

The end clips for the unirac were particularly difficult. It seems the trick is to have them in place before you bring the panel anywhere near the rack so you can wiggle it in. If it stops moving, a hammer will destroy the clip far before it slides it home. I had to cut an inch off both the...

    3.3 KW off Grid System

I rented a bucket lift for the weekend and wrapped up all of the roof work! When it was time to move the panels, I turned the bucket into a tiny fork lift. Then careful use of rachet straps allowed me to get the panels in place. One neat trick was to undo the rachet and use the strap to...

How do PV wires enter a conduit for roof penetration?

    I used a weather head.

3c or 6c? what is it I really need for a golf cart?

The C rating is the rate of charge or discharge related to battery capacity. A 105AH battery discharging at 1C rate will be discharging at 105Amps and will be empty in 1 hour. A 105AH battery discharging at 3C will be 315amps and will be empty in 20 minutes (1/3 of an hour). Charging works...

What electric car that would supply battery power for a 48v house system?

Most cars have a high voltage main battery and then a big buck converter to go from ~400v to 12v for the accessory systems. That converter is typically rated for ~1600 to 1300w. That means you would probably be safe pulling 1,000w continuously. So you can put a 1kw (or a little larger) inverter...

How do PV wires enter a conduit for roof penetration?

I am putting 8 panels (at 2S for 8 conductors + ground) on my roof. I want to run them through about 10 ft of conduit into the garage. I have a roof-penetration flashing that can handle the 1" emt conduit, but how do I actually run the 9 wires into the conduit in a weather-tight way? I have...

    3.3 KW off Grid System

Last night they were sitting at 3.295 and this morning 3.319 so I should be almost at 90%. Call it 2kw remaining at 36w for about 55 hours, but it will probably take a day more than that as the amperage will taper off. This will definitely take forever but the plus side is a beautiful top...

    3.3 KW off Grid System

I have 20 x 280a CATL cells (16s and 4s packs) that will take about a week to charge with my little 10a power supply. I really like this cart for battery storage but I don't think it will hold 16 on one shelf without sagging over time. I think I'm getting some scaffolding to get the panels on...

I just destroyed $500 worth of batteries by doing nothing.

I didn't compress them at all. I loosely paralleled them and charged them for days up to 3.6v at 10amps. I left them until there was 1/2 amp current. I can't believe they went back to the normal dimensions!

I just did some measuring and my original bus bars are only 16mm. They will be limited to about 70a. I think pipe is probably the way to go as even 1/2" pope is several steps higher rating than what I had.

I just destroyed $500 worth of batteries by doing nothing.

Now I need to re-think bus bars. The previous ones won't fit the heavily-bloated cells. Maybe I should make some out of copper pipe?

I went with 8 of the Longi panels. They are bi-facial and RES Supply was great to work with. They dropped the pallet at the road and we inspected each panel, loaded them in the truck, and hauled them down the driveway. I need to get better pictures but it was threatening rain.

I just destroyed $500 worth of batteries by doing nothing.

Well, I made some 12 awg leads with ring terminals and it made quite a difference without changing anything else! Before: After: Looks like 3.6 days to charge the remaining 80% at this rate. Should I keep charging at 10 amps or should I decrease the current setting?
