18 New Trina 270 Watt Panel

Are these still available, and if you don't mind, what part of the Carolinas are you in? (or I can PM you if you don't feel comfortable just posting location)

A story about importing LiFePO4 cells

It's still tastier than the lifepo4 juice. That stuff is entirely unpalatable

Are you saying that the price of the cells DDP is $148 each?

    Off grid internet

It's called the "AT&T Unlimited Tablet Plan" according to my bill. I've also heard it called the Unlimited Ipad plan. It seems to be a plan which is seldom advertised (but is still available) which was formerly promoted for use with Apple IPads to give them internet connectivity over the 3G/4G...

    Off grid internet

Hey, I don't know if maybe you missed it earlier in this thread, but I'm on unlimited AT&T plan and it costs me 23$ a month including taxes and fees. (I purchased my own modem for ~150$) If you want to save some money and since you clearly have AT&T service available, I would highly recommend it.

Max input voltage/amperage for MPPT charge controller

edit: I do not intend to convey a rude tone with this post-- I really, truly don't. I'm simply trying to stick to the facts here, and I apologize if I have offended anyone here. You are simply incorrect. While it is possible to design and construct an MPPT charger that is immune to this...

Max input voltage/amperage for MPPT charge controller

I wish I knew! The first thing I did when pondering this question was begin to try to disassemble the unit so I could take a peek, but they are filled with glue and apparently it's quite difficult to open the case in a non-destructive fashion.

Max input voltage/amperage for MPPT charge controller

He was correcting my incorrect @. What I'm telling you is that according to Victron, their units can and will sometimes short the input from the array while being correctly connected. Interpreting the text about "reverse polarity" in those manuals as being exclusive and absolute is missing...

Max input voltage/amperage for MPPT charge controller

I am also a fan of overpaneling, because as cheap as solar panels have become it presents a nice opportunity to give your system a little boost without having to change any of the other equipment. It seems that whether or not -and to what degree- overpaneling is acceptable depends on the...

Max input voltage/amperage for MPPT charge controller

I believe that you're looking at an erroneous copy of the manual. I believe that there is another version of the manual available on their website which has more information (some of which contradicts the manual that came with the MPPT 150/100 I purchased from them), but I wound up contacting...

EVE-280 cells should these be clamped tight or spaced for expansion?

Again that's not from a manufacturer, and suggests that fibra-taping the pack together is an adequate way to apply compression to the cells.... Although this is "monkey see, monkey do," I look at the videos of the automotive manufacturers assembling packs to go into their vehicles, and they...

    Auto transformer dangers

I have noticed that as well, and it drove me nuts because I didn't understand if it was being done for a design or EM reason, or if it was just being done to physically attach the laminas (as opposed to an alternative like a bolt or clamp)

Idle 'no load' Consumption: Specs vs Your Personal Observation

    1. Victron Quattro 48v (model: 48/3000/35-50/50 120v) 2. 120v 3. 3000W 4. Measured idle power draw is 24W (the manufacturer's specification says 25W) 5. I am not using any of the optional power saving or search modes. This is just "regular" inverter-on operation. With the inverter...

System size for 220 volt well pump.

That part got me, too. And a 1.5HP pump at that depth for that use case? For what it's worth, I've got a 1/2hp cheap amazon pump at 90' feeding a conventional 40-60psi pressure tank system and it pumps about 10 gallons a minute. I'm also surprised by the idea of a 485ft well in rural...

System size for 220 volt well pump.

Another consideration is that all pumps are Not created equal when it comes to starting surge. Grundfos SQ pumps are often suggested on solar forums because they have a soft start built in (there's no startup surge). This would let you get by with a MUCH MUCH MUCH smaller inverter, even just a...

    Solar isn't magical

What exactly was your intention in making this thread and antagonizing people if not to try to stir the shit? Calling people who disagree with your blackpilled, nihilist views "bots" is what I am referring to as antagonizing. edit: are you really here trying to engage in a productive conversation?

Thank you for your help :)

Even if the batteries are at the same state of charge-- if one of them is slightly at a lower capacity, then it could be driven down into the damaging lower voltage levels while the overall pack voltage remained high and appeared acceptable. Preventing these kinds of issues is what BMS are...

Thank you for your help :)

Imagine if one cell has slightly higher internal resistance than the others.... Each time they are discharged it goes lower than the other cells because there is more energy wasted as internal heating and losses inside that cell. Each time they are charged up, it receives very slightly less...

Thank you for your help :)

Please clarify this: you say that you use a Daly BMS while charging, but do you not have it equipped during normal use? It should have disconnected the pack when the cell went lower than 2.5v or whatever the undervoltage protection level is set for, which would have cut power to the scooter...

    Another broken stud story

Please understand that Docan and Basen are both just resellers; they don't have anything to do with how these cells are manufactured or modified and their reputation is only relevant in terms of how they provide service as a merchant.... I've been very happy with doing business with Docan, and...

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

edit: I've heard of users here receiving 'bloated' cheap CATL aluminum cells in recent years, but IDK if that's what you're referring to... I'm curious if you can say more about the particulars of this... I'm specifically interested as to how or why these failures are happening, and if the...

I was thinking around 10kW (just an amateur guess!) but have a look at this site (https://pvwatts.nrel.gov/pvwatts.php) It will help you estimate expected solar power production based on historical climate and solar data from a weather station nearby your location. I've attached a screenshot...

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

The entire Grade A, Grade B etc nomenclature is imprecise and not very useful IMO. We just kind of wind up with a situation where any cell that doesn't fail basic tests or display visual imperfections gets marketed and traded as "Grade A." I just want to buy cells which are newly...

Every 2 or 3 Days- Full Charging and Discharging and LifePO4 Longevity

The idea is that not driving them hard into the "knees" of the voltage charge/discharge curve tends to extend the cycle life of the battery. This is often identified as between ~20%-90% SOC. That being said, eventually calendar aging and other factors will probably affect the lifespan of the...

EVE-280 cells should these be clamped tight or spaced for expansion?

How does what you are suggesting explain how some cells/brands/batches don't bloat or expand during charge and discharge cycles while some others have issues with bloating even just while being stored?

no, not for the battery monitor; I would use a fuse that is appropriate for the wire/device, which in this case would be only a few amps.

Does your battery monitor have an internal fuse? I would want a fuse in between it and the positive side of the system

EVE-280 cells should these be clamped tight or spaced for expansion?

We haven't exactly gotten complete and detailed information from the manufacturers regarding compression... AFAIK, the idea of compressing these cells with a certain force had to do with people in the DIY community becoming aware of a few lines mentioned in some of the lifepo4 cell data sheets...
