    Convert Upgrade Mistake

My helpers were less than ideal . . . and left to my own devices, apparently I'm not a good double checker :). The fuses on the converter/charger are there for reverse polarity . . . They work :).

    Convert Upgrade Mistake

Sooooooo.... I'm the guy in my camper club that loves batteries and solar, etc. This weekend I helped a friend put panels on the roof, upgraded the batteries to Lithium, added a Victron Solar Charge Controller, Orion Charger, and Phoenix 1200 Watt inverter. Pretty straight forward stuff. We...

Dual Battery Truck; 2/0 cable for 40 amp B2B charger

Hi, My Ford F150 just left this earth (blown turbo which warped the engine block @ 125,000 miles); so I replaced it with a Dodge 2500 with the 6.7 Cummins diesel. In the Ford, I ran 2/0 wires from the battery positive and the chassis ground through the frame to the back bumper where I have a...

280 AH Eve Battery/Overkill 120 Amp BMS/Progressive 4655L converter charger charger port disconnect

I did 2x; but they are not perfectly matched and the delta between cells at the top means some hit 3.65V before others causing the BMS to go into over voltage protect mode. I decided to limit the charger to 14.4 volts… for my purposes, that’s close enough. After a full week of dry camping...

280 AH Eve Battery/Overkill 120 Amp BMS/Progressive 4655L converter charger charger port disconnect

The question here is should I leave the converter charger in the Lithium constant 14.6 volt mode (and re top balance the cells), or use the normal mode (14.4V/13.6V/13/2V) where this problem doesn't happen; or something else. I built and added the 280 AH EVE battery to my trailer. I moved the...

Massimo 100W/18v folding solar panel- DC output adapted to connect to Solar Controller/12V battery ok?

I have 300 watt Massimo solar blanket; it has xt60 port (which is wired backwards). Compensating (I.e flipping wires to correctly feed my charge controllers) for that it shows 30 volts in clear sun; yet Victron 100-30 and cheap charge controllers read nothing. Any help? Allegedly, the xt60...

Renogy 100 AH or Lion 100 AH batteries internal resistance

Hello all, Two of my friends have these plug and play batteries. They are currently using MBRF fuses on the terminals, which has a 10,000 amp AIC rating. When I look at the specs for these batteries, I've found Renology claims to have a less than 30 milliohm IR and the Lion battery to have 5...

Can I connect BMS in parallel or series?

My uses are pretty small in comparison. That's a good point on the voltage @smoothJoey. I hadn't looked at that. My 280 AH battery is 13.6 nominal; so MBRF is AIC rated 10,000 ohms for that application. But with the low IR, i went with the Tfuse as the main fuse on that battery. But...

Can I connect BMS in parallel or series?

But these CATL batteries are .39 mOhms. So, I'm thinking I need a 125 amp T fuse. So far, no luck at finding a holder for that . . . 3.2V 100Ah CATL LiFePO4 Battery cell with screws for easy connection Module:001CB270 Nominal Voltage:3.2V Nominal Capacity:100Ah Internal...

Can I connect BMS in parallel or series?

I'm looking at an 8s battery at 25.6 V at 100 ah. With no idea of the IR at this point. My 280 AH 4s EVE battery spec chart says .25 milliohms per cell; or 1 milliohm for 4 cells? That gives me a dead short of 14,600??? (14.6 divided by .001) I use a T fuse on that battery. I suspect these...

Can I connect BMS in parallel or series?

my sense is the internal resistance of the battery is the IR of each cell times 8. The bus bars and bms may add more, but don't you want to use the base level for figuring out your fuse? Any additional resistance from the other stuff adds a level of safety. jps

Can I connect BMS in parallel or series?

Does anyone know the internal resistance of these batteries? A class T fuse would be have an AIC rating of 20,000 amps where a MBRF fuse is 10,000 amps. An internal resistance over2.5 milliohms (.0025 ohms) would allow for a MBRF fuse. Under that requires a T fuse. Thanks in advance.

My $850 720 wh Solar Briefcase (if you don't count the tools)

So, I couldn't help myself. I wanted a power meter (so I added a shunt). I wanted to turn the inverter on and off without opening it (so I added the inverter switch). I wanted to solar charge it without opening it (so I added and SAE power input). Also, I wanted to plug in to 2 power outlets...

    Building a CPAP battery backup

So, i decided to rework this battery into a smaller case. Here's the result. Much more portable and fits better in the RV. Still needs to be charged every 4 days; but that works for me. . . .

320Ah LiFePO4 4S battery build with AliExpress cells, Overkill BMS and compression box

Pretty amazing build. I've used a Dewalt toolbox to house my battery (you can see it below), but sounds like that would not fit in your application. I use simple tie downs and strap to hold it to the floor of the camper. Plenty of room inside the box for the vents to blow if they have to...

    Building a CPAP battery backup

Hi, I looked up the 200 watt Rich solar panel; it has a max short circuit current of 10.2 amps. Multiply that times 1.25 and you get something over 12 amps. So, your 15 amp fuse is fine. Vmax was not what i shoulda asked for. jps

    Building a CPAP battery backup

Your panel puts out 200 watts of power. This is the number of volts times the number of amps. There should be a sticker on the back of your solar panel… the v max should be somewhere between 18 and 40 volts +\- . 200 watts could be 18 volts times 11.11 amps or 36 volts times 5.55 amps …or...

    Building a CPAP battery backup

It’s 13.6 V nominal; so 360 WH (seems like I actually got a few more WH when I tested it; like closer to 380 WH) and I prolly only sleep 6 hours; so closer to 8.5-9 watts per hour; my pressure setting might be lower than others too; your mileage may vary …. But with humidifier off it has a...

    Building a CPAP battery backup

What’s the V max on the panels? Divide that into the 200 watts to see max amps from panels and the 15 amp fuse should be 1.25x your max amps. I think you could use a 20 amp solar controller with a 30 Amp fuse on the charger side (they are $20 on Amazon). If you stick with the 40 amp...

My $850 720 wh Solar Briefcase (if you don't count the tools)

Best I can do with a Victron 5 amp charger is $895. . . I suppose I could go cheaper and try to get cells from China, but I love the ease of the fortune batteries. 2 solar panels adds another $190. I really like the portability of your box and having the plugs on the outside. I thought about...

My $850 720 wh Solar Briefcase (if you don't count the tools)

For those of you following along at home . . . After much reading and some hand wringing, I decided to add a main terminal battery fuse to this build. For my setup which will never see more than 50amps (the max pull of the inverter, I went with a 60 amp fuse (because there is no 62.5 amp fuse)...

My $850 720 wh Solar Briefcase (if you don't count the tools)

The max draw from the inverter is 50 amps. The max discharge available from the battery through the daly bms is 80 amps. The max input from the SCC is 20 amps and the charger is 5 amps, hence the 25 and 10 amp fuses respectively. In wills milk crate build, he fuses the SCC and power supply as...

My $850 720 wh Solar Briefcase (if you don't count the tools)

Please help me understand. If the only thing plugged in to the battery is the charger, how can the battery cause the wires between the battery and the charger to overheat and potentially catch on fire? A short in the charger? Or the wall? Something else? If that is a potential risk why...

My $850 720 wh Solar Briefcase (if you don't count the tools)

So, I'm building another one of these for a friend. I'm going to add a connection to use a 5 amp Victron charger to charge off of shore power. Do I need to put a 10amp fuse inline with the charger? As it comes out of the box, the Victron charger comes with a wire that would connect directly...

Ampere Time 300ah in an RV. Relative newbie to lithium

My Batteries came pretty quickly — 45 days or so from Blmpow Official Store on AliExpress. After 1000 miles of towing; no loose connections… but I suspect you are asking Mr. Catholic… PD4655 (in regular mode) seems to do the trick for me I hit the button to elevate the charge and it gives 4...

Advice please for new teardrop solar and lithium build...

My fridge normally runs on propane when I'm off shore power. That takes about .4 amps an hour to monitor; so I'm not running the fridge off the batteries per se. All and all, the system seems to be working well for its first couple months. I've towed the camper about 1000 miles with no...

    Airstream Build in Progress

Looks great! We just went on our second trip with a 280 AH EVE DIY battery with a 120AH BMS; I added the same Victron shunt, a DC DC charger; the same SCC you have, and a 1200 W inverter. I used the same bus bars you have. I added a battery cutoff to the main negative from the battery and a...

    Another converter vs LifePO4 question

You could turn off the breaker to the converter circuit. But the ‘desulfurization’ phase is only 14.4V for 15 minutes. Not sure how that could hurt your battery. The bulk phase is the same voltage .... and I deliberately use that to charge my lifpo4 battery. You can charge at 14.6v to get...
