Help me Install 3 EG4 Mini Split Solar Heat Pumps

I'm a an owner of two of the 12k units. Also a long time user of Home Assistant, and have these things working really nicely with a smart thermostat using external room temp sensors. As we all know the internal sensor is... wanting. The thermostat implements it's own automatic heat/cool mode...

    Automated alerts

You're asking about a few different components, each of them requiring a different solution. The MPPsolar is something I don't have much familiarity with. I use a Growatt, which is as far as I know same thing under the hood. But I think the communication protocols are different - I don't know...

This is the mfgr's website, which wasn't even available last week. https://www.tumblevd.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=50&product_id=55 You can also write and ask when amazon is expected to have stock back service@tumblevd.com they seem to be quite responsive.

The new App version does indeed come with a new firmware, loaded locally from your device on first connection. Nothing new feature wise, as the changelog said.

I wrote the mfgr (apparently). this is the response I received Hello Cory, Thank you for your consultation. We have not yet developed the function of this UART, but we are planning to develop it. We will develop this series of products later, and this UART port can come in handy. Regards

Yup.. I've got some debugging to do (bought one to test out). of course i'd rather BTLE the data, but if i have to the UART port should work. I'll try it out with the RS2XX to USB dongle I've got to see what it says and go from there. After that I'll work on the bluetooth and see if i can make a...

Can you send me the user manual if it came with a link, or some readable photos? I'm trying to figure out how the port on the front > left works and If it can be used to export the data it collects in realtime

Do you have the IoT infrastructure to try out the UART port/data collection? I really want to get data into influx. I know that is MY interest, but for this price, I can't even make a decent V/A/Watt monitor with an ESP8266/ina226/shunt from scratch.

    Overkill BMS 8s

yup, can confirm. It is self calibrating once it reaches full charge. Even worse, whenever you change settings on the BMS App it will reset SOC to that incorrect value. While I kinda understand if you change capacity settings, i wish that for other settings SOC was stored in memory.

In the naming department, Junctek wins. honestly how much worse could that get? I think the TBD is going straight for victron though. It couldn't be any more blatant - Both named SmartShunt, nearly identical design, UART.Connect vs VE.Direct... I wouldn't be surprised if this IS the victron...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KNJ4Y7B/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_SE6SFF695SZTDPSBE0CA This thing looks inexpensively interesting. Anyone tried it out? I'm not too interested if there is no way to get the data out, but that UART port looks promising. Sure looks oddly similar to an identically named...

Home Assistant - Solar Monitoring and Management

I'm not even sure what you're mad at.. Big Pi? Who is They? Sounds like to me you need an all in one system with a switch. Great! To each their own. But here on the internet we have all types, and believe it or not, some folks like rolling their own, it's fun to build stuff.... DIY SOLAR FORUM...

Pi 3 will work just fine. But the 4's are a huge leap and it's nice to have the multi threaded capabilities. You're fine with 2gb unless you plan on doing a bunch more with it. And yes. they're not cheap prices have skyrocketed over the past year and a half. Chip shortage they say. It's more...

Home Assistant - Solar Monitoring and Management

What you're doing is so simple for HA, i can't even count the ways it could be done. There's even a visual workflow editor that you can build your automations with. No programming or configuration file touching needed. Much of what you're doing is what I'm doing with my solar hot tub...

Home Assistant - Solar Monitoring and Management

haha oh boy you have a learning curve ahead of you. I assume by now you've figured out the difference between Home and Google Assistant? HA does have a built in mqtt server. I don't prefer it myself, but if you are running Home Assistant OS, then that is your best choice. It'll be in...

Home Assistant - Solar Monitoring and Management

Yup, that's great for viewing for sure. It's the MQTT that will make it actionable. It's kind of a different thing, or another thing altogether when you can make smarter use of your power depending on conditions, battery state, temperature. thanks for sharing

Looking for input/advice for off-grid Cabin.

To get around that, I hooked up a Servo to the gas control, and a temp probe that reads once a second. The logic reads the output temp and adjusts the gas to compensate. Works pretty well. Also doubles as temp control like a real shower. Some like it hot, some don't. The temp probe also...

New JBD / Overkill bluetooth monitor

After writing this up, I started thinking that, even though i'm a kludge.. i do know what i'm doing in this realm. I thought about all the steps that I take for granted that my fingers just do in a SSH shell.. Someone should build a RPi image that can just be written to a SD card. It would have...

Hey folks, mostly a new lurker but I thought it interesting to share something new that is being worked on. For you DiY'ers this will make your tesla-snorting buddies jealous. It's not my project, but I think I was one of if not the first to get it up and running aside from the creator. Consider...

Home Assistant - Solar Monitoring and Management

Here's an update to Home Assistant and solar monitoring. I'm using an Overkill Solar BMS in an 8cell EVE 272ah setup. From the Raspberry pi it's pulling data in from both the Charger/Inverter (Growatt SPF3000) and the BMS. The BMS has a full suite of telemetry available, including...

Home Assistant - Solar Monitoring and Management

well.. ok then. How about this? sounds like you may have a HIPPA issue if you're writing automations for health care facilities. Home Assistant isn't a product, it's a community based suite of applications that never sends any data outside of your local network (ie: cloud data). It runs on your...

Home Assistant - Solar Monitoring and Management

There is very very little that Home Assistant doesn't have an integration for. Sensors? make / or Add any and all the sensors you want. They all work. SmartThings/Google's Home/all the corporate based Smart Home interfaces are really just a place where you can link things up. Maybe run some...

Home Assistant - Solar Monitoring and Management

The IoT world is really wide open these days and I'm surprised I'm not seeing more systems that people have integrated with their solar setups. So.. I'll start. I've been building solar setups for years, and have some pretty funky "Solar Generator" boxes that came before the time of LFP and the...
