    JKBMS Random High Cell Voltages

So whats a solution... As the BMS is no longer balancing, you could increase the impedance of all the wires by inserting resistors to EVERY wire. This would force the Balancer to draw from the cells & not the BMS internals. Add some capacitors in parallel with the cells, hopefully they would be...

    JKBMS Random High Cell Voltages

OK - think I figured out whats happening... Here's my diagram as to why HIGH voltage cells are causing neighbouring cells to read HIGHER. Of course its most likely that its the balance cables and the BMS (NOT the balancer) Internals that are getting pulled high & low, due to the impedance of...

    JKBMS Random High Cell Voltages

100% get that - & when you're charging a cell through a balancer - i'll read high, perfect. What i'm seeing is that when cells are being DRAINED by the balancer, the voltage is reading HIGH on that cell (or its neighbour?). Have a look at the middle balancing picture... 15 is low... BUT! 14 &...

    JKBMS Random High Cell Voltages

I appreciate your feedback. I am after the WHY - a deeper understanding as to exactly why it is happening, to work on a feasible solution. Reducing the balance current is a really, really bad solution. You install a balancer for a reason, reducing its ability to be a balancer goes directly...

    JKBMS Random High Cell Voltages

No - that's what i'm seeing too, whacky when balancing! Maybe we put a heap of capacitors across all the cells to smooth it out lol

    JKBMS Random High Cell Voltages

Agree with with low voltages... but... I'm seeing HIGH voltages on Cells that its pulling from... the high voltage cells are too high... the only thing the NEEY is doing is pulling from those - so why are they above the normal voltages. Is the correction factor causing an increase in voltage?

    JKBMS Random High Cell Voltages

Here's the setup... 2 x 16S LiFePO4 bank All balancing cables come to a junction block From that block I have both the JKBMS, & NEEY active balancer The voltages in the NEEY are spot on, consistent and correct (as per multimeter) The voltage readings on the JKBMS are jumping around a LOT, by...

Almost seems like its better NOT to have inverter communication?

Revive an oldie.... been thinking about this myself... I cant find much from inverter manufacturers on the benefits & why... BUT there *could* be many, many benefits - but they come with a risk, its all software, so is the programmer going to make a good decision for you...

    Updated LiFePO4 Battery Caps

Broke out into a focus group, re-imagined the design then shifted a few paradigms... New design - now features ribs which clip onto the 20mm bus bars, holding the caps secure in place. In the old design they just sat on top & could be bumped off etc. They also allow side access to the bar for...

JK BMS State of charge oddity

Trying to figure it out - but looks like the configured capacity is an input factor too, i've had a few full cycles and i'm still seeing crazy capacity jumps. I've got 2 packs in parallel, I didnt fully test the new pack for capacity - so took the manufacturers word (304Ah) for it & it looks to...

    Australia - NSW - Ausgrid customers - 28c Feed-in bonus

Well Sir you're 100% correct on your scepticism! Just got a call from AusGrid & spoke with the staff at length - yeppas it'll be dropping significantly at the end of the trial & wont continue anywhere near its current form :) *doths cap*

    Australia - NSW - Ausgrid customers - 28c Feed-in bonus

Trials - sounds like you're talking it down because its a "trial", could just be the way to sell it to the regulator, get more data & then go larger & larger in a years time? We've got huge issues in the grid & this addresses those issues - I dont see it going the other way, but i could of...

    Australia - NSW - Ausgrid customers - 28c Feed-in bonus

Its rewarding for feeding in during peak consumption and penalizing during peak feed in So its about when you feed in & taking the load off the grid as much as possible.

    Australia - NSW - Ausgrid customers - 28c Feed-in bonus

from Canadia eh? Aus has (i *think*) the largest amount of solar penetration in the world - what we're seeing is our feed-ins are going down & down... and we're seeing inverters being turned off during the day - as there's too much solar in the grid. We're also seeing a solid increase in...

    Australia - NSW - Ausgrid customers - 28c Feed-in bonus

A post for Aus customers that are on AusGrid... raising some awareness! AusGrid have new tariffs that are INSANELY good for batteries - and i'm sure many other fellow DIY battery nerds would benefit. The details: Ausgrid EA960 & EA959 The Ausgrid tariff is a trial residential two-way tariff...

12VDC Transfer Switch - thinking out loud

Switching DC is hard... breaking a DC circuit at high current is probably one of the hardest things to switch (amateur electronics nerd). I would expect welded terminals & odd behavior from the relay sooner than planned & would design for that. AC is so much easier & less demanding. Great...

Circuit Breakers & Temps - TOMZN overheating

Thinking about all this - what's interesting is that at the other end of the damaged cable above - it was perfectly fine. I think a *significant* portion of the issue is the clamping/fixing of the cable. When it was put in the breaker - the cable gets screwed down, you're just not going to have...

Circuit Breakers & Temps - TOMZN overheating

The previous cabling - yes, it was rated at 125deg & did suffer. The middle of the cable in open air was fine, but at the ends it had been deformed slightly.
  24. N

Circuit Breakers & Temps - TOMZN overheating

oh sorry - nah 100% perfect The cable is also a lot larger too - so somewhat of an unfair comparison. Old stuff was equiv to the BMS cable (2x7AWG I think) - new stuff is much, much larger.

Circuit Breakers & Temps - TOMZN overheating

Yes - they were tucked tight in there, a combination of both the internal wire & also being against the CB body. The ZJBeny's are fully sealed! but HUGE amount of space in there, so will be interesting to see how the heat is - will check next time. "How is the insulation" - in what way? Specs...

Circuit Breakers & Temps - TOMZN overheating

Sorry - Pic1 was the JK BMS... Same wires in & out - 2in, 2 out - just an issue with resolution. Yes Din mounted 2 pole I ran these & originally spec'd them for 70-80A, at that level mine were also just warm. But pushing them to 100A for an hour - whole different outcome. Even after this...

Circuit Breakers & Temps - TOMZN overheating

Its never tripped, but there's some corrosion on the contact points - concerning & probably a good source of heat. Discoloration on the main internal bar, having a close look it seemed to start at the flexible interconnection cables.

Circuit Breakers & Temps - TOMZN overheating

Made the correct call to re-do the breakers & wires... They were melted inside of the enclosure - so there's no way I could actually see the damage. The copper was discolored a fair bit too!

Circuit Breakers & Temps - TOMZN overheating

Ferrules may not allow good surface area, I prefer to NOT use them unless there's a reason too. - Off Grid Garage just did a vid about these. He used them & the lack of surface area was causing overheating. Old vs new... old uses screws, the new one has HUUUGE ring terminals with a hex head bolt.

Circuit Breakers & Temps - TOMZN overheating

ahhh - yeah no issues with any of that, checked all that thoroughly during install. Everything super secure etc. Just got some new breakers that are to local standards... $140 vs $40... they are huge & weigh a ton... so doubt i'll have issues. Thead was also an FYI to do thermal checks & be...

Circuit Breakers & Temps - TOMZN overheating

Sorry - how are they going in & out? Cables are stripped & screwed in securely - no ferrules or anything like that, just thick flexible stranded cable all squished nicely.

Circuit Breakers & Temps - TOMZN overheating

So i'm all up & running & want to do some thermals to see how its all going. 2x5kw Deye hybrids, 2x16kw 48v packs with JK BMS Big DC Cabling is 35mm welding cable, some smaller stuff which is being upgraded. Discharged at 8kw for an hour & did some thermals... EEPERS BMS happy at 35-38c...

    3D printed Deye 5kw Hybrid Fan Unit - SUN-3.6/5/6K-SG03LP1-EU

Some more info & results.... I tried putting some additional fans at the top of the units (my existing fans were at the bottom pushing air upwards) & no real improvement. My temps: 28deg day, 62 DC, 47 AC, with 2 units in parallel (so perfect testing conditions!) - running 2kw each charging the...
