    Keeping it simple stu...

Hi Vigo, my ultimate goal is to one fine day go with a 48 volt battery bank so I can most efficiently power an 5,000 watt, "split phase", inverter that is heavy enough to easily power a 240 VAC water pump that momentarily draws about 2,500 watts upon start up, 1,800 watts when...

    Keeping it simple stu...

Retiring before death is a goal of mine and should I achieve said goal I will then build a battery that does my offgriddle paradise justice. For now, I have to keep it simple, quick and cheap and I'm overdue to replace my first pair of lifepos with something more beefy, yet still temporary. I...

Do I need Single or 3-Phase Grid Tie Inverter To Run 240V

Washing machines are typically 120 volts, however, appliances that draw heavier amperage such as clothes dryers, hot water heaters and deep well submersible water pumps operate at 240 volts which in turn requires about 1/2 the current.

    Cool & sunny is better.

Net metering is a nice windfall for sure. There are no utility poles running to my humble homestead. Your summertime power requirement must be significant indeed in sunny southern Cali.!

    Cool & sunny is better.

Cool sunny days are better than hot sunny days for solar gain; don't forget to calculate for PV panel thermal loss where applicable. Peace.

    Renogy 170ah bateries in parallel

hmmm .. if the battery cables are of sufficient gauge and the connections are properly made, the load/charging should be relatively evenly distributed amongst all parallel connected battery terminals, so it should make little electrical difference which terminals you connect your load to.

For the best connection I solder, do you? Why not?

Soldering generally creates a superior electrical connection than only crimping. First coat the end of the wire in flux then tin it with solder. Then, crimp the connector on to the tinned wire, apply more flux paste and heat the connector and wire works until the work is hot enough to melt...

Can LiFePO4 Batteries Combust in Thermal Runaway Event?

From what I've read and what Will and the other solar gurus say, the technology is safe from self combusting but I I still put my LiFePO4's and associated equipment in and on non flammable enclosures and surfaces. Oorah.

    Off-Grid Cabin - 120v AC and/or 12v DC buildout?

I've been living off griddle for 7 years partially for economic reasons partially to save the planet and partially because the challenge of achieving self sufficiency is a gas. As I use and grow my solar farm I find that I do most everything with my 120vac inverter and standard 120 volt...

Chat Rooms are not anything new under the sun ..

Chat rooms are certainly nothing new under the sun, but wouldn't it be cool to have one here, only open when there is a live moderator in the room of course? Anyways, these photos are of my latest solar project in the works. Regards, OG

How Forgiving are built in BMS's?

Yes fer sure, series connection is a horse of a different color, I intend only to connect the mixed batteries in series for this application. Two existing batteries are 20 Ah and the third, new battery would be a 30 Ah.

Can I live off-grid w/ generator and no solar to start out? here's my model

When embarking upon my own fully off grid journey 6 plus years ago, I followed and still follow these same principles: Begin small and simple, (I am still at the small and simple stage in many ways ie I am still using my original inverter from an auto parts store)! Grow my power system as I...

Thank you for the excellent video. Yes, using a battery to charge itself would essentially be perpetual motion!

You would think that I could use the cam switch as a simple two pole manual transfer switch but NOOOOOO!

Why would it be a problem charging the battery while it is supplying power to a load? This is my diagram for the cam switch showing the terminal connections, thank you again.

Hi, it's a 63 amp, 660VAC switch, but i must admit i did not spend a whole lot of time researching the specifications. The switch was less than thirty dollars US and I read the reviews and knew there would be no documentation included but thought i could figure it out when it arrived.

Is there a way to eliminate inverter idle draw?

If you want the inverter to draw absolutely zero power in standby, I would suggest finding a stick or pole long enough to reach the on off switch from your bedroom so you can shut it off at night.

Ok, I purchased this three phase BAOMAIN, SW26-63/D303.3 cam switch switch in hopes that I could use it as a simple two pole transfer switch to supply 110VAC to a tiny off grid home by switching between generator power OR inverter power. I tried "ohming it out" with my volt ohm meter so I could...
