using a gun safe for battery

Its a combination of the two... fire and security... Where I live if your car is stolen it'll be driven to the next area and driven. Unless you're lucky it won't be returned. I'm not from here but people know if you come onto my property I know and I am armed. Things of "value" are best...

using a gun safe for battery

Just bought 32 305ah batteries. Looking at buying this to put them in: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/winchester-gun-safe-26-gun-ts26-45 Pretty sure I could fit 16 more in it with no problems. I'm looking at it from 2 different angles. Its "fire" rated. While it might not...

Why almost no one doing Solar Thermal?

when I bought my house it had a 6 person hot tub on the deck place was built 1978....it was about 10 feet off the ground (deck was). I tore it down, not a bolt, nail, ,screw, nothing holding the timbers holding it all up except being attached to the house side with nails. I live in Earth...

    Fried Inverters for sale...

I'm "Northern Ca" which means you could be 6 hours south of me... I'd not mind messing with the split phase one, but wouldn't invest a lot in it. If your near Oregon on the Coast let me know. Thanks

    Samsung SDI Question

yep, your right This is probably a good thing (mostly) as they will be better in a EV. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

    Samsung SDI Question

Not bmw modules, didn't even mention them.. They might (or might not) be the same, from what I can tell Samsung uses the term SDI loosely. From what I see these are lifpo4 based, which most ev companies stayed clear of mostly (I think only now they are going that way). (I based this off the...

    Samsung SDI Question

I know this thread is 2 years old... Having said that what route did you go? I bought 6 of these and got them in today. I don't plan on cutting them apart as I like the manufactured part of the batteries. I feel they have a battery balancer and not a true BMS we'd normally think of. Charging...

WTS Winston Thundersky 160Ah LiFeYPo4 cells CA or WTB two cells

I would have been interested but I'm going to a 96vdc system and would require more than 14. Good luck with the sale, and, bump up!

So. The price was that times four, right? isn't signature Solara prebuilt one cheaper then?

Anyway to charge battery bank using EV charging stations?

Tesla knows the VIN of the car being charged. not sure other charging stations get that in depth.... My experience so far is other charging stations struggle (big time) to charge reliably. Would it not be as easy to get a RV spot and charge while there off the provided RV power outlet?

    Charging 300-350VDC battery?

I came here wondering this as well. If it is able to be set the voltages you'd be able to charge a EV traction battery directly via this (possibly) and then run a inverter off of it as well, no? I watched a video of Jack talking about this before he died, saying this needs to be the way...

Crypto Currency Mining a Giant Pyramid Scheme?

Other than skipping over using my view of using a real world valued obtainable resource (water) as the "gold" standard your post just say "give me money for nothing" all over it. Congrats on getting others to give you "money" for the perception of real value, we've been doing it a awhile now...

Crypto Currency Mining a Giant Pyramid Scheme?

While I agree it is just paper the "gold standard" was also flawed. Those who owned gold mines were then super rich. I always thought it needed replacing with something else, say a gallon of water that meets a certain standard (drinking standard would work). If you could have always bought...

Would you bother with solar on this roof?

SC is "southern Canada" or South Carolina? Yes, it would make a difference (angle of sun). I'd only do it if I was going to clear some trees....But that is me.

It could be all about how big and tall it is..

https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20220511-can-gravity-batteries-solve-our-energy-storage-problems My terrain is verticle and I do have one spot that is nearly on top (200 feet MSL) and sunken in. I'd throw around (in my head) about letting it fill with water and then letting it go down to...

Is there a really big price increase coming?

I know the price of Catalityc Converters have went up a LOT, per a mechanic I talked to today. By a lot, I mean, a real big fing lot. I was still about to price one at $100 off Amazon though. Might be that their invetory has not caught up yet, Autozone was showing $800...

    Actually building a cabin

In almost in Oregon on the Coast, 90+ inches of rain a year here (we get no drought here). I went underground on three sides, lots of windows on the fourth. Slab (poored/mixed by hand), foam insulation on the outside, spray in foam on the inside, then insulation (6" walls) with dirt on top...

    304ah vs 100ah

A good battery only used for starting a few times a year should last a long time if properly maintained. I'd say under those conditions well past 4 years.

    12v or 24v

I'd only start with 12V if you have a reason to go to 12v myself. My barn has a 12v battery for the genset...but even then I went to 24v and then using a 24 to 12volt battery maintainer to keep the 12v genset battery good.

Why do bus bars have voltage ratings?

Good god are they not.... Stating something so definitive is dangerous, its clear to me the original OP needs someone to do this for them. If you run a million volts thru any of these bus bars youll have major problems, regardless of the amps. Yes its a extreme, but, none the less true.

Why do bus bars have voltage ratings?

" The distance an arc will jump through air is proportional to its voltage. 3000 volts jumps 1 mm. 3,000,000 volts jumps 1 meter 300,000,000 volts jumps 100 meters. It takes 900 million volts to jump 300 meters. If it jumps more than 300 meter (about 1000 feet) then its got to be bigger...

'no sell' hybrid roof top solar with batteries

You seem to think they should be able to provide the service and pay Solar people what they pay... Pretty much lost interest after that... Maybe others will walk you thru for free, but I spent some time reading up on how to do what you want to do (its on here). Good luck, have fun.

Home fuse box vs breaker box.

A large breaker (200 amps) is still small and reuseable. Not sure how much a 200amp fuse would cost. Part of it is probably that fuses are one time use versus breakers are not. I'd not know which one is "safer"... Cars use fuses...mostly. But at higher voltage on EV's I believe they use...
