    Cell level monitoring

That will tell me the voltage of each of the 4 parralled banks?

    Cell level monitoring

I guess it will have to be, or will the other cells hold it up?

    Cell level monitoring

I have 28 cells connected 4 in series, 7 in parallel. I would like to monitor individual cell voltages and trigger a relay or alarm or something should any one go out of range. What are my options please?

    Why is my voltage dropping

I'm not sure everyone's telling me it can't be done. Whether it's wise to do it with differng chemistries is another matter though. :)

    Why is my voltage dropping

Yours is set at 15.6 V yes, that is a lot higher than my 14.4V. What was it before you changed it please?

    Why is my voltage dropping

I have copied outback tech support into this discussion, hopefully they will have a look.

    Why is my voltage dropping

That's what I thought, and I totally get the charge profile for one will be at the detriment of the other. I an willing to sacrifice some life from the LA's, but that does not explain why the controllers are acting as they are. Thanks for the input

    Why is my voltage dropping

Update. Outback are telling me that two different types of battery chemistries cant'be used in a single setup, so perhaps therein lies the problem.

    Why is my voltage dropping

Yeah, i'm beginning to suspect it is a bug in the system, and not my settings, setup, state of the sun, connections etc. I am in contact with outback to see what they can suggest, though I am not holding out much hope, as I believe they are actually Tracer controllers, not outback. The...

    Why is my voltage dropping

Sorry, I have not explained this very well. I outlined the system, but it was in a different thread. This one has drifted quite a bit, as my initial question was really about the solar charge controllers and the panels. There is a motorised switch that sits between LA and Lithium batteries...

    Why is my voltage dropping

The LA rarely get used. As the cells are in parallel, albeit separated by a switch, they stay above 12.8V, whilst the lithium do the heavy lifting. Eventually I hope to get rid of the LA batteries and have a dc to dc converter as you suggest, and a mains charger that can cope with lithium...

    Why is my voltage dropping

    Which bit?

    Why is my voltage dropping

No, I haven't tried that. All my chargers and loads are connected to the LA bank. I have an engine driven alternator that I haven't as yet configured for the lithium cells. The lithium and LA bank can be isolated from each other with a switch. The LA bank gets a weekly charge from a mains...

    Why is my voltage dropping

A huge thanks to you sir, its finally beginning to make sense. So, if i set a higher Boost (absorbtion) voltage, I can set the duration lower, say 10 minutes. If I set the boost voltage lower, then the duration needs to be longer. For maximum cell life I was going for the lower option, but due...

    Why is my voltage dropping

One shot is from the meter connected to the outback, one from the app connected to the wifi controller, and the chinese one which is the lithium BMS. So, the meter is correct, the wifi module and app is a third part thing I guess , and the BMS info a bit of a red herring, but relevant.

I have only watched a few of his, will go take a closer look. Thanks

    Why is my voltage dropping

AH, yes, I have watched off grid garage. He and his frogs are rather good.

    Why is my voltage dropping

Fantastic. Many thanks. I will leave the settings as they are to see if the panel voltage stabilises at 80V. Thanks for your settings. I was hoping to be a bit less aggressive with my cells, and initally set the controllers to 13.8 boost, 13.3 float and 13.2 boost reconnect, but that didnt...

    Why is my voltage dropping

Thanks for that. I didn't know it switched to PWM mode at all, but could explain what is happening. It seems to be very fussy with the settings, i'm not even sure the boost/float works very well. It seems to go into "float" charge mode but still continue to supply current to the batteries when...

    Why is my voltage dropping

An update. I changed the setting on one of the controllers to 13.9 boost, 13.5 float, and it appears to have dropped into float properly. The other one I have left set as it was, and it still putting in some current. Both remain at the higher panel voltage.

    Why is my voltage dropping

Yes, more than one. I recently changed the system and the controller settings to include lithium cells, and as a result have been keeping a, closer eye on the settings. It may well have been doing it previously, but I didn't notice.

    Why is my voltage dropping

OK. Thanks. I'll give it a try to tomorrow and see what happens.
  24. M

    Why is my voltage dropping

13.9 boost, 13.9 float, but surely the panel voltage would not be dropped to produce the required float?

    Why is my voltage dropping

Thanks. Its happening in the middle of the day in full sun.

    Why is my voltage dropping

The above images were taken within seconds of each other. The lower voltage shows before I turned the panels off, the second image shows the panels switched back on again

    Why is my voltage dropping

I think they are actually tracers, but badged as outback, so probably made by tracer, not outback. I cant get a pic until tomorrow now as the sun has gone. PICs now added They are two separate arrays connected to the same cells through individual charge controllers

They are outback flexmax 30 mppt controllers

    Why is my voltage dropping

I have a couple of panels in series that produce 70V into a charge controller dropping to charge 12V batteries. Every few hours the voltage drops to 14V on the panels before climbing again slowly over a period of time (no shading). I have two identical arrays, and they both do exactly the same...

Help me understand my solar charge controllers

Ok, just measured the current into the LA with a clamp meter. Approx 1A. Yes, they are Lifep04's with a bit of yttrium in.

Help me understand my solar charge controllers

That is true, but if the LA is fully charged, I would not expect so much current to flow?

Help me understand my solar charge controllers

Do you mean because the BMS is reading lower than the controller? Its a 280Ah lithium bank in parallel with a nominal 440 Ahr LA bank (probably less than this now). I don't think the battery is anywhere near fully charged, and that kinda is backed up by the BMS reading.

Help me understand my solar charge controllers

Further to my last post, I am not sure I understand how my controller(s) actually work, or if they are not working as they should. I wonder if someone could explain please. To test the system, I have the boost set at 13.9V, the float set at 13.9V, and the boost reconnect set at 13.8V, with a...

Help me with my solar settings please for lithium cells

So, today's reading make little sense to me. Attached two screen shots. One from the wifi device connected to one of the mppt controllers, and one from the BMS software. Both taken at the same time. Solar is charging, and the system has some small loads on. I was expecting the current to fall...
