Growatt 12kwh SPF 12000T DVM lack of CANBUS

OK so I'm trying to work out if my growatt 12000 has CANBUS or not. I cannot seem to get it to work at all with a pylontech type battery. Has anyone who has one of these inverters tried using CANBUS? I've even tried probing all the pins to see if I can see the 120 Ohm termination resistor...

Growatt SPH Series Inverter - Battery BMS protocol

Yeah I think we are golden except for the "custom code" bit. I'm pretty sure my 12000T DVM does not have CAN (even though growatt says it does). It does have RS-485 but the pylontech protocol is not as clear as the CAN. I'm trying to work on a python script that talks RS-485 to the growatt...

Daly BMS, RS485 connection to a Growatt inverter

Those are useful!. I'm not sure though how the Growatt talks via RS-485. Whether it requests information from the pylontech or the pylontech just spits out out once a second similar to the CAN protocol. I think I'm going to have to have to some packet sniffing on the growatt to see for example...

Growatt 12000T DVM Max utility charging output

Well Damn - Good idea @RobertGreen. I just measured the voltage across the shunt and plotted it. Looks like the Batrium shunt is crapping out at about 40A....Probably time to ping customer service unless anyone has seen this before and it just needs a calibrate?

Growatt 12000T DVM Max utility charging output

I know from my utility meter and what the growatt reports that it really is ramping up the power. I mean it could be the batrium shunt but it seems pretty accurate all the way up to the 40A number (and does report at least -80A when I'm running the AC)....And yeah - if it's dumping 1-2kW...

Growatt 12000T DVM Max utility charging output

I started a discussion here regarding an odd discrepancy between my batrium shunt and charging on the growatt 12000T DVM: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/odd-inefficiencies-in-growatt-12000t-dvm-unit-vs-batrium.29954/ I thought I would ask here to as I'm now into the troubleshoot phase. It's...

Odd inefficiencies in Growatt 12000T DVM unit vs Batrium

Charging question using a GROWATT 12000T DVM and Batrium. I've been upping my charge current from the grid each night on a new system. I started off at 30A and moved upto 60A (into a 280aH LiFePo). I noticed that power usage by the inverter changed each night from 2.8kW at 40A, 3.6kW at 50A...

Daly BMS, RS485 connection to a Growatt inverter

Yeah I tried that raspberry pie option. Checked the can is sending out the right stuff, connected to bms port and set to option L52. No joy for me. Don’t suppose anyone has the rs-422 pylontech protocol?

Growatt SPF 12000T DVM outdoor usage and manual

I think to answer my own question it cannot live outside per say. Mine is "outside" but in a lean-too shed I built on the side of the house so weatherproof

    Growatt 6000T - RJ45 to RS485 pinout - Help

@Joe BoyKey Can you share any info you have. I'm struggling to get either CANBUS or RS-485 working. I'd like to either connect it upto a pi or get batrium working over CANBUS. So much confusing information about pinouts and whether to use the RS-485 port or the BMS port so any tips would be...

Possible TOU settings in growatt server

So whilst I'm struggling to get anything out of either the RS-485 and canbus on a SPF 12000t I noticed on the growatt website that they *may* have settings for TOU and load-shifting (see image). Now my growatt dongle has been a bit hit and miss but this may be one way of switching between the...

    CAN enabled Battery pack?

Jumping in here. I'm trying to integrate a batrium with a growatt SPF 12000T DVM over canbus. I read that you need to set the setting to L52 to use canbus although I'm not sure mine has that. Does anyone have the protocol docs for either the pylontec RS-485 protocol or what growatt is...

    batrium charging logic

Ok can anyone help me understand the priority/setting of the batrium charging profile. There's basically 4 control parameter that seem to control the charging - Note I am setting this up for a 16s LiFePo4 setup Cell Hi Cutoff: 3.65 Supply Hi Cutoff: 58.4 (3.65*16) Shunt Hi Cutoff: 58.4...

    LiFePo4 remove compression when charged

I could but I don't have anything right now to dump the power into....except the inverter hence the chicken/egg problem :)

    LiFePo4 remove compression when charged

Yeah it's just a threaded rod - If it's not permanent then I don't think it's a big deal. I could maybe move them but not compress initially, do a discharge via the inverter one time and then compress again whilst in a low state. It's just that "woah don't do that they will permanently deform"...

    LiFePo4 remove compression when charged

So I built my nice 16s 280aH LiFePo4 pack and top balanced it. Unfortunately I top balanced it in a location that is nowhere near the invertor. I now need to either lug a 200lb pack into a very awkward space Discharge a 13kWh pack at 3.3V - read very long time Dismantle the pack and remove...

Growatt 12kW transfer switch - dumb question

So I know the growatt has a transfer switch to move over to grid power. Question is when does it do that and what is the consequence. i.e. if the battery needs charging from the grid does it switch the output over to the grid and then charge the batteries or does the grid supply simply get...

    Square-D circuit breaker

Anyone familiar with Square-D circuit breakers? I just ordered the following on ebay and now I'm thinking it might not be a shunt-trip but only has an aux switch: https://www.ebay.com/itm/353475617286 P/N is KHL3625025DC2350 (W/ AUX SWITCH SHUNT TRIP) but I cannot find any details in the...

    Batrium shunt location

Thinking about how to put together a 16s2p LiFePo4 2x280Ah pack with a Batrium shunt. Each string has it's own K9 to monitor. I'm trying to work out if it's better to tie the two strings together close to the battery and then put the shunt on the negative terminal right there (I could use wire...

    Dumb Question Regarding the Growatt 12kW 48V 250VDC 120A Off-Grid Inverter

Does anyone see an issue with wiring both the GRID Neutral and the inverter Neutral together in a sub-panel? I wanted to have an interlock switch that would power the subpanel from either the inverter output or the grid. The hots would be isolated but the neutrals would be constantly bonded...

Growatt SPF 12000T DVM outdoor usage and manual

I remember seeing but cannot find an alternate manual from a different company that had a lot more detail in that matches the growatt SPF 12000T series. Anyone have a link? Also does anyone know if the unit can be used outdoors? I'm not sure because of the fans on top?

    Growatt SPF series need batteries

Does anyone know if the Growatt SPF series has to be connected to a 48V battery source? i.e. I intend to use the Grid for charging and was wondering if the unit would work if there was no battery at all - I'm thinking the case here is if the BMS detects a fault and shuts down the battery you can...

    Growatt invertor talking to Batrium

https://diysolarforum.com/threads/growatt-sph-series-inverter-battery-bms-protocol.21829/ Might be interesting - Actually nevermind - This is for talking to the battery not the growatt protocol. Still I guess you could use some glue on a RPI to join the two together

    Growatt invertor talking to Batrium

Let me know how it goes. I did see the RS-422 protocol pdf around (looking for it) so not sure if it uses the same registers as the CANBUS

Battery location crawl-space or outside in metal shed

I'm currently debating the best place to store a 16s2p battery pack (280ah cells). One option is under the house where it should remain cool but under the house makes me somewhat nervous even if LiFePO4 are supposed to be safe. This should keep them out of direct sunlight and generally cool...

    Growatt invertor talking to Batrium

I'm looking into maybe using the new batrium core and MM8. This will be a 16s2p setup with two MM8s. I was wondering if anyone know if the Batrium talks to the Growatt over CANBUS? I don't see it advertised on their website but I know the Growatts are just a brand name - Should I be looking...

    Batrium watchman 5 2p16s LiFePo4

Ah Interesting indeed. Two strings 16s and use a single Watchmon Core and 2 CellMate K9s (Along with the 500A shunt). I'll look a little more into that and if that works then adding capacity should be a lot easier (not that I think I'll need more that a 2p16s 280aH system)

    Batrium watchman 5 2p16s LiFePo4

I'm looking into a BMS for a 2p16s using 280aH LiFePo4 cells. I initially thought the Batrium watchman 5 with the 500A shunt would be an ideal solution but am I right in that it will only do 15s not 16s? If so I presume if I wanted to use Batrium (but don't have to) then I would need the...

    Alibaba DAP vs DDP

Thanks -I've messaged her on alibaba and I'll check our the page if as @snoobler states it's more like $250 DDP for 9 cells than I'm not that worried (vs what it is if you just add to the cart and that's not even DDP)

    Alibaba DAP vs DDP

Ah so I have to sort out shipping from the Customs location to home... I think I definitely need DDP then or if it's just delviered to your local port and and you drive there, pay customs and put it in the back of your car/truck then I'm ok with that too. (I'm in LA so maybe DAP might work...

    Alibaba DAP vs DDP

Alibaba Noob here. So looking at buying some cells from @Amy Wan (Luyuan) from their alibaba site (16x cell with free shipping). The ones I'm looking at are DAP only for shipping. How much of a pain is that vs DDP? Is it fairly straight forward to sort out or should I ask to get DDP?

    Growatt SPF 12000t architecture Question

Thanks for you response - I *think* I can change the settings via modbus over RS-422 but I need to do a bit more research. I don't believe there will be any backfeed issues as I'll move over sub-circuits to a separate panel that would never see the "Grid" except maybe a GND tie. The only...

    Growatt SPF 12000t architecture Question

First post! I'm thinking of moving most (not all) of my main-panel circuits (including a fairly low power A/C unit) onto an off-grid panel that is powered by a growatt 12000T. The main reason for this is TOU load shifting (our afternoon rates in socal are 60c/kwh and going up). I do...
