Looking for a 12v UPS (battery charger and power supply)

thx Bud. I mean the charger switches off. I am not even using the actuator in this test. but now that you ask , I have had luck using using the standard PA-14 https://www.progressiveautomations.com/products/mini-linear-actuator, at worse case it's about 5A, lifting up.. going down it's...

Looking for a 12v UPS (battery charger and power supply)

I am looking for a module that I can use as a 12V (around 5A max) power supply that will fall back to a simple 12v 6Ah type AGM. My intent is to power the Raspberry PI circuit that I use to control the actuator that I use to open my chicken coop door. At full load these devices could use up...

    making things quieter

good question.. the DWPH EFC-06E12D is a generic 3 wire fan.. red/black 12v - yellow is the tachometer. One of the fans was wired only for power and the other one had the tach.. the Noctua was a direct replacement, though I had to reuse the original cable. The inverter is quieter now . What...

which goes first? fuse or switch

Quick question of practicality.. Assume an array of batteries in a outdoor battery box, going to an inverter. which should be closest to the battery in current flow, the fuse or the battery disconnect switch? I am tending towards the disconnect switch (big Blue Sea SPST) first and then the...

    making things quieter

reposting this without the saga. https://diysolarforum.com/threads/fan-on-freedom-xc-1000.25124/ basically I had a piece of hardware that was to dammed loud for use at home. I replaced their crappy fan (DWPH EFC-06E12D DC 12V 0.60A 60x60x25mm Server Cooling Fan) with a nice quiet Noctua...

    Fan on Freedom XC 1000

I finally gave up on their tech support - damm the warranty for something that is an engineering mistake. I replaced their crappy fan (DWPH EFC-06E12D DC 12V 0.60A 60x60x25mm Server Cooling Fan) with a nice quiet Noctua NF-A6x25 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009NQMESS. so much better now.

    Fan on Freedom XC 1000

It's hard to say. I have the smart-shunt setup, and I have seen it run the fan with no current flow to the battery, I have the float set at 13.5v. and have tried it lower, How low would you suggest?

One more problem, is that you really need the remote and bluetooth to do proper setup. The built in UI is difficult. The bluetooth has to be set each time you want to run the app. maybe they could have done a better job here.. The Victron folks who make the smartshunt seems to have gotten...

Not getting the best help out of tech support - they suggested that the transfer relay is what might be heating up. to recap- I basically have a UPS setup to drive some computer/sat gear, running somewhere between 100 - 300W, sitting in my living room. The battery is at full charge and the...

    Lifting Panels to the roof

I am glad you had no mishaps. there is risk in everything we do, but we still need to get he job done. hope my tips help the next guy have an easier time. I recently had a discussion with some fire fighters about how they handle cutting holes in solar roofs.. pretty amazing stuff

Dumb question about physically moving solar panels

Always, always have fall protection,.. That means at a minimum a rope and some form of harness that prevents you from falling off the roof. I usually just fashion a prussik cord to allow me to move around the roof while I work close to the edge.. You can make a hasty harness from webbing if...

    Lifting Panels to the roof

awesome work! a couple of suggestions from a tech rope rescue guy: ( having lifted heavy stuff up dangerous places a few times) It's nice to have a capture device on both the lift and the haul.. this is easly done by making up a few prussik cords. One on the pulley on the roof, so that guy...

Well i haven't heard a peep from Xantrax I notice though that even though the battery is at full charge and the unit is on shore power that the fan comes on approximately every 30 minutes for 2 minutes duration. I posted some photos of the settings there a reason why the fan goes on so...

Follow up questions about well pumps and selecting a modern inverter

Thank you @Hedges and @snoobler, I ordered a set of Rolls Flooded 6V cells S6 L16-SC - 6 Volts, 487 Amp-hours. - I would have liked to use AGM, but they are not to be found in stock anywhere given the current supply chain failures these days,. And the monster inverter charger from Energetech...

Follow up questions about well pumps and selecting a modern inverter

I hunted around, it looks the the SunXtender high end batteries are many months out for shipping. I bet they are having supply line chain issues like everyone else. Can you suggest any other alternatives to the Sun Xtender PVX-2580L AGM. Some folks tried to sell me on the NorthStar BLUE+...

Hello all; I am trying to build a system to keep my home running during power fail without having to start up the generator constantly. My strategy is keep up most critical loads on battery/inverter and run the generator periodically to recharge. My first attempt at using modern charger...

Follow up questions about well pumps and selecting a modern inverter

I agree but this is in a separate structure, so while it would be useful for other things, it not worth wiring back to the other buildings. good thought though. funny thing is I am using that same pump to feed my garden from an above ground tank/

Follow up questions about well pumps and selecting a modern inverter

Thank you YEs I understand, I am using a Goulds 10GS07412CL pump. I bet they are using the CentriPro 3 wire 4" submersible motors, best I can tell. I will try and find out what the motor LRA is speced at. Hindsight is 20/20 in this case, two years ago when I built the pump house I would have...
