RF and the Smart Solar Home

@svetz @erik.calco I’d be interested to see this conversation, focused around the last post above, updated as surely a lot of new tech has become available in the last year.

Inverter/Charger - Obvious to someone just not obvious to me

In further evidence of my ignorance will this device turn on and off the DC or the AC at set voltages? (You have to scroll down to see the detailed description.) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32886201775.html

Inverter/Charger - Obvious to someone just not obvious to me

I do regret buying it. @smoothJoey could you point me in the direction of devices with drinking birds built in? It appears the device in Will’s video would do it but it’s complete overkill for my needs. It strikes me a strange that the revolution of being able to speak to, and automate...

Inverter/Charger - Obvious to someone just not obvious to me

https://www.kisaepower.com/products/ic121040/ @Sojourner1 Seems like an AC outlet or switch controlled by monitoring the battery bank voltage would get me close to what I think I want.

Inverter/Charger - Obvious to someone just not obvious to me

I’ve got an inverter/shore charger combo and I’m trying to wrap my head around how to maximize solar usage from a separate mppt charger. Obviously if my solar power is sufficient 24/7 I can simply leave the inverter/charger unplugged and rely only on solar to drive the inverter. But when I...

New Bluetti AC300 -- DIY version designs here.

LVX6048 Is $1600 at Watt247. AC300 isn’t sold separately but the batteries are. So subtraction leads us to an AC300 price of, at best (prices have already gone up) $1300. With the exception of solar input it takes two AC300 to match a LVX6048 so $2600. For someone with basic technical...

New Bluetti AC300 -- DIY version designs here.

Waterproof LVX6048WP is coming up. AC300 won’t be doing that. https://www.mppsolar.com/v3/catalogs/LVX6048WP.pdf

75lbs for LVX6048. But it seems likely to be more serviceable.

New Bluetti AC300 -- DIY version designs here.

The quick answer to your question is the MPP LVX6048. With some exceptions (solar input the big one) the LVX6048 can do what it requires two AC300’s to do (6000w output, 120 and 240). The LVX6048 does this at about half the initial sale price of the two AC300 without batteries. Of course that...

    Giandel 1200 watt inverter spec

I’ve been looking at this same inverter and now have the obvious question. What inverter should I get which will have a proper (higher) low voltage cutoff for lifepo4? (The problem identified in the original post.)

Lion energy better than Battle Born?

Did anyone figure out why a BB 100ah weighs 31 lbs and a Lion 105ah weighs 23 lbs? That’s a huge difference in weight. Surely that not just how the case is built?

Bluetti AC300 takes on MPPsolar and Growatt (will a DIY battery be possible)?

I think the $2899 includes a 3000WH B300. Hopefully Bluetti will clarify soon. They haven’t revealed much despite Will having two of the B300’s (actually B230’s) in a recent video.

Experiences charging LFP from alternator WITHOUT a DC-DC charger

It’s interesting to see the alligator clips on this device coming out in a bit. I bet the charge speeds are tiny however.

Bluetti AC300 takes on MPPsolar and Growatt (will a DIY battery be possible)?

I’d love to see Will review this upcoming device (he has already been running the B300 batteries). From the press release: “The AC300 is entirely modular with the main unit housing the 3000 watt pure sine wave inverter. Each AC300 needs to be paired with at least one 3072Wh B300 battery but can...

Thoughts on Goal Zero 1000 Core (Amazon exclusive)?

This product was released a month ago exclusively to Amazon. The manual is not available online but they sent it to me. Attached here. I’ll be interested in what others think. Photograph of the specs attached separately. Li-ion NMC, 500 Cycles. 983Wh (10.8V, 91Ah) $899. Is anyone else running...

Final verdict on the MPPT as a faster charging input from a vehicle’s battery?

Many portable power stations offer higher maximum wattage MPPT solar charging than through AC bricks or cigarette lighter inputs. Sometimes as high as triple the watts and therefore much shorter charge times. Just when I think it has been concluded one shouldn’t use MPPT input directly from a...

Experiences charging LFP from alternator WITHOUT a DC-DC charger

@wholybee Thanks. Initially I I certainly didn’t realize that transferring the continuous charge applied to one 12v Lead Acid battery to a discharged 12v Lifepo4 would be so complicated. 12v to 12v sounds easy. But I’ve come to accept it’s not. It appears to me that the DC -> AC inverter -> DC...

Hysolis by Seasun Clean Energy, All-in-one Systems

Anyone else purchase one of these? I’ve attracted to the ability to easily repurpose the battery. Do any other companies with a Lifepo4 portable station have such an accessible battery? Will did a video on this unit with a full tear down but didn’t test anything but the MPPT. No one else seems...

Experiences charging LFP from alternator WITHOUT a DC-DC charger

@mikefitz I never suggested 280ah. I’d stick with 100ah max. It would be only for emergency use. But I don’t think that would change your advice.

@wholybee sorry to both you again. I’m guessing this doesn’t work either? https://www.powerstream.com/battery-isolator-solid-state.htm

Experiences charging LFP from alternator WITHOUT a DC-DC charger

Thanks @wholybee. I don’t feel need of the precise profile as this would only be for emergency use. My challenge with the 20a charge is that it is hardly more watts than I can pull off a cigarette lighter. I’m hoping for at least .5-1C charge rate and the car can “spare” something like 80 amps...

Experiences charging LFP from alternator WITHOUT a DC-DC charger

@wholybee here is one more option. Victron sells an Argo Diode Battery Combiner. https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Datasheet-Argo-Diode-Battery-Combiners-EN.pdf If, instead of connecting two batteries to a DC load, you connected the lead acid to the DC load of the depleted LFP...

Experiences charging LFP from alternator WITHOUT a DC-DC charger

Thanks @wholybee . Output is 14v. The Cyrix devices do have an amperage limit of 120 amps but the phrase “Continuous current and breaking capacity at 12V or 24V” probably means you destroy the equipment at that point...

AIO + Alternator = Pretty simple Vehicle 2 Home solar backup (and $ opportunity)

By the way I realize this is no breakthrough. Just a helpful diagram. With the systems hardly integrated. Based on the number of people asking for it on this forum I think one of the All In One (AIO) manufacturers will make a lot of money as soon as they add a DC input designed for an...

Experiences charging LFP from alternator WITHOUT a DC-DC charger

This thread was sidetracked into discussion of air conditioning in the end but I’d like to revive it. I learned a lot. In the attachment a Victron distributor shows two devices to charge house batteries from an alternator as part of integration as backup into an All In One. It probably assumes...

AIO + Alternator = Pretty simple Vehicle 2 Home solar backup (and $ opportunity)

After days of full time digging I found these detailed schematics with what I think is the best current version of an alternator driven Vehicle to Home/RV arrangement.
