30W Solar panel mount with MakerbeamXL (small T-slot aluminum extrusion beams)

Hello all, I bought a small 30W solar panel that I plan on hooking up to a 38 Ah battery and Victron 250 VA inverter. I planned on using my dusty set of MakerbeamXL to mount it but it didn't seem to work at first because the mounting holes are too big for these tiny screws. Anyway after a bit...

Drill holes in busbar / flexibar: equipment needed?

In order to make holes through a Flexibar (to be used as busbars between battery cells), the manufacturer recommends using a hole puncher such as their MFPT. The problem is that their least expensive piece of equipment, the MFPT, costs € 1260.73 and that is a lot for something I will seldom...

Source for EVE 280 custom busbars?

Do you ship to Europe? I would very much like to buy 12 more busbars for my 304 Ah cells.

Shorter (7cm) busbars: what are they for?

Yes, I got them from Shenzhen Luyuan Technology Co., Ltd. Besides forgetting to respond to my messages when I initially asked about more busbars they've been lovely and very helpful. It will still be a little while before I have everything setup and tested; FreeCAD plans are slowly being...

Shorter (7cm) busbars: what are they for?

Got home and measured them, I think it's the eve datasheet / product specs that are wrong. I measured approximately 2.5 cm between the terminal and the smaller edge of the cell, which seems to match with the smaller busbars I received. The datasheet shows 9 cm between terminals which would mean...

Shorter (7cm) busbars: what are they for?

I guess so, that's all I can make sense of. Amy ended up getting back to me after I told her I received the batteries so I will ask her about it after I double check the size of the cells I got.

Shorter (7cm) busbars: what are they for?

Hello all, I just received my 304Ah EVE battery cells ordered on Alibaba and I am very confused about the busbars I got: A box contains two 9 cm long busbars which allow connecting two cells sandwiched together (since I calculated the cell terminals center would be about 7.35 cm apart...

How to deal with uneven placement of compression springs?

I think that's what I will do, thank you :) Do you leave your battery exposed like that / not afraid of something falling on it / intruding and shorting it? My plan is to put acrylic on the sides that are not aluminum.

How to deal with uneven placement of compression springs?

What is this crossmember you are talking of? Thanks for the feedback :) I guess the distance between each rod would simply be cells_height / #rods, and I should avoid putting any springs on the bottom unless I put the same number and at the same distance as those on top?

How to deal with uneven placement of compression springs?

Compression springs do not offer an even 11 psi if they are not distributed evenly, as that is often the case (especially if there are none between battery packs which is often the case). Springs should thus be adjusted to each offer a separate force. I've posted about it on and I don't have...

3P battery connection with provided 2-holes busbars: use a washer to fill in the gap or make custom busbars?

Actually it works out perfectly if I use two of the busbars as terminals (I do need to get more busbars though, I got 24 of each in my order.) Still curious about the right ways to go if this issue pops up.

3P battery connection with provided 2-holes busbars: use a washer to fill in the gap or make custom busbars?

That's a great idea that didn't cross my mind :) Not sure I would be able to do it well though. Will see once I get them. Thanks! I will order some copper washers. It looks like M6 (I believe that's what the terminals are?) with 2 mm width are hard to find so they'll probably come from China...

3P battery connection with provided 2-holes busbars: use a washer to fill in the gap or make custom busbars?

I am in the process of modeling my 3P8S battery out of 304 Ah cells from Amy, and I just realized that using 3 parallel cells with the provided two holes busbars means that the busbar is not making contact with one of the terminals. Would it be appropriate to use 2 mm washers to fill in the...

2 weeks of top balancing finally complete! 16 280ah cells

Did you notice any expansion or negative effect? I will also be doing the top balance before they are put into the final compressed case, because there is no way I can move the whole battery (24 * 310 Ah cells; 150 kg?) from home (where I have power) into the houseboat (which doesn't yet have...

Side wall thickness needed with different materials?

But you believe 10mm (3/8") aluminum would work in these conditions?

Side wall thickness needed with different materials?

Thank you :) I will be going for 8 or 10 mm then. Still curious about steel; 4mm galvanized steel is less than 1/2 the price of 8mm aluminum, but I have no idea what's its strength and it doesn't seem as widely tested.

Side wall thickness needed with different materials?

Maybe side wall isn't the right term, I mean the main walls that go along the long side of the batteries. They provide compression thanks to springs and threaded rods, so they have to withstand a lot of force with minimal bending. eg the two gray walls in this WIP screenshot

Side wall thickness needed with different materials?

How would one go about determining the required thickness needed for the two side walls that sandwich a set of battery cells with threaded rods and springs? I've seen 1/2" of wood floating around, but I would rather go with something less flammable; aluminum, (stainless or galvanized) steel, or...

Pack / Cell compression Optimized By Using Springs.

Pack / Cell compression Optimized By Using Springs.

Does this apply when springs are used on both sides? (ie does the same calculation apply whether the other side is a "wall" or a similar set of springs?) edit: if I understand correctly the above stays the same and the number of springs is increased, so effectively divide the force by 2 and use...

    Battery compression pads in Europe?

Maybe this would work if I can place an order on RS: https://export.rsdelivers.com/product/rs-pro//rs-pro-white-rubber-sponge-sheet-1m-x-600mm-x-15mm/7336719 It has a temperature rating of [-60°C, +200°C] and silicone is a poor conductor so that seems pretty safe.

    Battery compression pads in Europe?

I'm seeing "Saint Gobain Norseal PF25" on https://materials-direct.com/product/saint-gobain-norseal-pf20-series-pf25-1mm/ , it might be a bit too thin (1.6mm), but maybe that doesn't matter since the compression will be mainly provided with springs at the rods' ends. edit: 52.54 euros shipping...

What do I need to make a 600Ah 25.6v battery pack? (BMS and balancing)

I like 24v because I can hook up solar panels in parallel, so I think they are more tolerant to partial shade. Also I went with the Electrodacus BMS and that only works with up to 24v systems. (That and the cells are the only components I have ordered so far)

15.5 kWh or 23.3 kWh batteries for 6x540W panels?

This is all a bit too exciting. Drafting it helped too; if I spend a day or two away consuming very little then there is potential for full batteries when I come back.

15.5 kWh or 23.3 kWh batteries for 6x540W panels?

Hello all, I'm in the process of designing my houseboat electrical system but already ordered 16x 304 Ah cells yesterday to make the 15.5 kWh battery and I am having second thoughts as to whether I should ask for 8 more cells (total 23.3 kWh) before they get shipped. I want to maximize...

What do I need to make a 600Ah 25.6v battery pack? (BMS and balancing)

Now looking at the ElectroDacus. 123SmartBMS looked great but one of the functions I want (relay to turn on the charger from a given voltage up to a set threshold) requires configuration with a Windows-only software, that's a bit too restrictive to me. The ElectroDacus is open-source and seems...

What do I need to make a 600Ah 25.6v battery pack? (BMS and balancing)

I'm looking at the 123SmartBMS system now, I like that it's European rather than Alibaba so probably better tested and supported, + I believe it might be what's in Victron's batteries. I could either go with one module per two cells (I guess balancing by group of two is most likely ok?) or two...

What do I need to make a 600Ah 25.6v battery pack? (BMS and balancing)

The stack means different series / batteries will communicate together? They actually have a 24v 200Ah version on their Alibaba so I can stick to two batteries afterall :) edit: nvm, the specs listed are that of a 48v battery o_O so the title seems wrong.

What do I need to make a 600Ah 25.6v battery pack? (BMS and balancing)

Looks good! It seems to be limited to 100A (so still three smaller batteries rather than 2) for 24v systems but the features including Victron compatibility are peace of mind. I was only ever looking at the remote pin, never realized that (even the non smart) battery protect could have a set...

What do I need to make a 600Ah 25.6v battery pack? (BMS and balancing)

Thank you. I've been seeing the JBD products on here, it's too bad they have such relatively low Amp ratings (120A seems to be the max) but I will do 3 parallel batteries with smaller cells instead of two with 304Ah cells if that gets me the most safe and reliable results. Those do have...
