Remove your rings or else this could happen! (GORE)

I had this type of thing happen to me. I was making some busbars for a 4S2P CALB 180 battery. I was using a short wrench and I was cupping it in my hand so the wrench wouldn't make contact. Well my carbide ring touched the wrench and one of the terminals. It was only 6.4 volts, but in a...

This newbie just got his EVE 280 amp hr cells.

You know we're terrible -- you know the few that would check this thread to see how bad he damaged a cell or two --- Good job backing off and waiting on a BMS -- I always just Parallel them up and wait

This newbie just got his EVE 280 amp hr cells.

I'll stay tuned to hear what happens --- Hopefully not what has happened to so many others -- one cell going way over 3.65v and you're looking for a single cell --- Good Luck

    LiFePo4 bolts

If you have those cells with the shallow threads, I wouldn't use those nuts. It takes a little bit of force to push the stud through that nylon (you're basically threading the nylon as you go through it ) Just use standard nuts with a lock washer and flat washer . Then torque

    13.2 kw DIY broke ground

When ever I set post --- I always hang my post where the concrete goes underneath the bottom of the post-- Over time if you don't do this ,they'll sink right through the concrete -- Since you're using steel post, you can also run a rod through the base of your post

And a Fire Extinguisher mounted on the handle bars -- JK  I would discard any cells that look like they were close to the heat

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

One of the main problems with the OPs packs --- The cells he used ,No matter if they were Brand New out of the factory to his door step --They were not the right type of cells --- Laptop and Modem cells are not designed for High Amp output --- But on the other hand I see no problem with using...

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

I did notice he put the Nickel strip right on the positive side of the cells, no extra insulating ring. Most of that heat shrink is very thing and not very heat resistant. If that nickel strip got real hot right there and melted the heat shrink, it would have caused a direct short I wonder if he...

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

I'm curious -- Where the pack blew out and flamed up -- was that where you were drawing your positive from the pack -- I find tapping into several areas with multiple wires distributes the heat much better --- on a 6P pack I'm building right now -- I'm using 6/14ga wires of the same length tied...

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

The first time I ever heard some one say you can revive low 18650 Li-ion cells, I'm like you're kidding me right. Below 2.6 basically garbage where I come from -- I really don't like below 2.80 -- then the phrase Heaters if you try to charge them to 4.2v ,yeah because they're wore out and if you...

My thought is -- How old are those Ryobi packs you buy at HD for new -- no one knows --- All you can do even when you buy new cells is check them to the best of your ability -- I build high end flashlights and I'm amazed at what people who use them do -- they have no idea how to use them or know...

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

Yes your High Almighty -- Every one bow the master has spoken -- You have no idea the work and the testing of cells I put into building a pack -- Yes I agree there's a lot of shady stuff going on with all this stuff - From people not knowing what a Fuse is , to people buying crappy cells they...

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

Yep-- If he was using one --- a serious voltage sag would trigger a good BMS --- The 4S pack I mentioned, when the battery gets around 3.1v per cell the Sag on take off triggers the BMS

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

I built some packs similar to your first video but with a wire that holds around 12 amps ---- One pack is a 3S7P of Tesla 21700 cells and another is a 4S6P with Samsung 20Rs -- they both have held up well -- I'm real conservative with the BMS s and with charging amps

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

I finally went back and Reread the OP -- You had those 18650s Parallel wired with a pack of SPIM08HP --You're lucky that's all that happened -- I wonder if when you drew enough amps the 18650 packs voltage sag allowed the SPIM08HP pack to back feed the 18650s

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

1P -- I'm surprised the bike even took off at all ---- How is that pack built on the other side --Looks like a lot of Parallel cells to me

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

Depends on what type of pack your building --- If you're using high drain cells ( for instance Sony VTC6 ) in a 10S6P battery pack to run a scooter. You have to have a fuse that will hold up to the amp draw you're needing --- So if you use that thin wire you'll blow all the cell fuses on the...

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

Now I can understand where you're coming from -- I was raised around construction sites (residential ) and made it my career--- The things I see people do on jobs these days and what's shown in these TV shows is downright scary to me -- I'd like to think I have a 6th sense type of mind when it...

Uh oh. lost the magic smoke

You should build your pack with all the same Brand Cells for a high amp draw -- Ebike/ Scooter high drain cells only--- good to know your total amp draw per cell and Fuse each cell individually The only LifePo4 cell I know of in small form factor is the A123 -- they put out some amps -- I have...

    Solar powered Pool Pump

One of the things I always see is people replacing pumps all the time and still using a sand filter -- I changed over to a DE filter about 10 yrs ago and cut my pump run time in half -- DE filters about 6-10 times smaller particles -- my pool is 35k in Baton Rouge --- My cycle time is 6 hrs and...
