Now I have everything up and running nicely here in Uruguay :)

And here a picture of the display with the battery connected, that was a real challenge to get working with the BMS :D

Now I have everything up and running nicely here in Uruguay :)

I just finished setting up the entire solar system and it´s working great. There are a few small things that I need to finish up, but that´s mostly for the cosmetics of it. My initial post about my ideas is here...

    Weco vs. Pylontech?

Hi, I have three options in regards to lithium batteries, Everexceed, Pylontech and possibly Weco. I´m not very fond of Everexceed that has 5000 cycles at 80% DOD and no BMS. So how are your experiences with Pylontech and Weco? I get 3 years of warranty on the Pylontech, but I understand...

What are your experience with Growatt and their service?

I thought most Growatt was high-frequency inverters? It´s difficult to buy from outside Uruguay, so whoever Ian is, it´s not an option.

Adjustable tilt vs solid mount array for solar trailer build

When you get above about 45 degrees relative to horizontal, you stop winning energy in the wintertime with increased angle, but are loosing heavily in the summertime. I´ve made some calculations, but they are particular to my location.

    Seeing Growatt Website Issues http://server-us.growatt.com/index

I´m considering SPF-5000 TL BL-UP, because of the higher charge rating and switching time.

Thanks, but I´m in Uruguay, so that´s not an option for me.

    Seeing Growatt Website Issues http://server-us.growatt.com/index

Yes, I´ve heard about that, so that´s why I´m curious about it. I´m not sure I can get a low frequency inverter here in Uruguay, everything here is Chinese. This guy seems to be able to start a compressor, that already have some pressure in it 29 mins in:

    Seeing Growatt Website Issues http://server-us.growatt.com/index

Do you think Growatt is a serious company? I´ve been trying to get some kind of surge rating from them, but they only asked where in the world I live and then they didn´t trouble themselves with answering.

    Designing a Stand-By System?

If economy isn´t much of an issue and you´re willing to change the batteries once in a while it might be fine, but else I would be concerned about letting the batteries stand and do nothing in a stand-by situation, I think most batteries go bad if not being used for a couple of years. If you on...

    Mechanized pole mount

You are most likely not going to benefit the environment by a lot by doing this. You have to consider the dirty power used to mine the materials, make the panels, transport them e.t.c. Also the materials that goes into the frame and tracker. Then we have the inverter, same issue, with the added...

Adjustable tilt vs solid mount array for solar trailer build

Yes, even if you found the optimal angle according to your preference, you might change your preference later and then it´s no fun to invest in a new support for the panels. The drawback to your particular situation could be driving on a bumpy road with a flexible mount, it would have to be...

The real off-grid situation :) If you depend on spareparts, you´re indirectly on-grid.

Adjustable tilt vs solid mount array for solar trailer build

Another thing I considered is that we rarely get golf ball sized hail where I live, so wouldn't like to lay them down flat. Anyway I want to optimize for winter sun, so where I live 49 degrees relative to horizontal is optimal and if I don't get to cover the panels before the hail, they'll sort...

Love it! ? I moved from Denmark to Uruguay, 1 km outside a small sleepy town. I noticed exactly the same as you. Denmark had become a fascist police state, they are really chasing people for nothing. While at the same time they let the big criminals run. Where I live now I know the police...

Lol :-D But you´re right, today it´s getting increasingly difficult to have money with inflation, negative/zero interest and Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC) coming. A piece of land stays under the feet :)

Why in the world would you like to have 40 acres? Sounds like a lot of maintenance? I have 2 ha (about 5 acres) and that´s more than plenty for anybody who´s not a farmer :) I´m new to solar, but have been investigating a lot and I think it doesn´t sound unreasonable in regards to economy...

Adjustable tilt vs solid mount array for solar trailer build

Hi, I think you might want to look at this angle calculator, because it depends on when you want to optimize the sun for: http://www.solarelectricityhandbook.com/solar-angle-calculator.html As far as I can se it gives a very good suggestion. Notice that the angle you get is calculated...

Growatt 3000 panel readout - accuracy issues?

I´m happy to hear that :) It seems like it´s the best option here in Uruguay. I´m considering the SPH-5000 TL BL-UP, that has higher charging/discharging capacity and fast switching between grid and battery.

    Design of solar system

Hi CJ80, As far as I understand the Growatt inverters have an integrated RCD, but of course there´s not really any point in an RCD on the line in from the solar panels? Except for protecting the equipment from irregularities? https://mikma.dk/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Growatt-RCD-Type-A.pdf I...

    Design of solar system

Hi I´m new to solar, but I do have a clue about it. I want to have some professionals to install the system, but here in Uruguay professional can mean anything, so I want to be on top of every detail of it. I´ve drawn up a system that I think will fit my purpose and would like to hear your...

What are your experience with Growatt and their service?

I live in Uruguay and I think I can only buy Chinese inverters here, so far it seems like Growatt is the better option here and they do provide 10 years warranty (I hope). Reading about Growatt here on the forum wasn´t very encouraging, especially regarding service, so would like to hear some...

Growatt 3000 panel readout - accuracy issues?

I´m new to solar, so I can´t help a lot, but as watts are volts multiplied with ampere, it should be more like 400W, 80V & 5A. What the panel is showing seems entirely inconsistent as 8A * 65V = 520W. Maybe there´s something solar tech I´m not understanding here :D It´s concerning me a bit to...

Hi, I´m new to solar, don´t yet have a system, but have an ok idea about what I need

That was very good information, thanks a lot :) I´m going to go through all the heavy loaders and I´ll try to figure out what their surge rating is. I figure there is a constant base load, so if I add a constant base load, the highest surge rating and a good buffer (50%), then I´ll end up with...

Hi, I´m new to solar, don´t yet have a system, but have an ok idea about what I need

"The “modified sine wave” has detrimental effects on many electrical loads. It reduces the energy efficiency of motors and transformers by 10 to 20 percent. The wasted energy causes abnormal heat which reduces the reliability and longevity of motors and transformers and other devices, including...

Hi, I´m new to solar, don´t yet have a system, but have an ok idea about what I need

Ok, I´m not really finding any in-depth material about this topic regarding solar high/low frequency inverters. I understand that high frequency inverters have a higher efficency, like this Growatt claims to have a 97%+ efficiency, but might have issues with start-up loads. Whereas low...

Hi, I´m new to solar, don´t yet have a system, but have an ok idea about what I need

Maybe you´re really going to save my ass here :D I did come across the fact that it was a high frequency inverter in a video making a load test on a similar Growatt unit running on a 48V battery: He does seem to be overexcited and probably sponsored. He appears to be running some heavy loads...

Hi, I´m new to solar, don´t yet have a system, but have an ok idea about what I need

They just suggested this integrated unit with inverter and charge controller and nothing besides it. But I´ve told them that I don´t feel confident about that configuration and that I would like the Growatt SPH5000, if they can get it. So now they are looking into this unit.

Hi, I´m new to solar, don´t yet have a system, but have an ok idea about what I need

It suddenly hit me. The charge controller in the inverter only charges with 3000 watts, which means that whatever is produced above 3000 watt has to be consumed, to be utilized. This "excess" will mostly be in the middle of the day, so we would have to make sure to utilize this energy. Now...

Hi, I´m new to solar, don´t yet have a system, but have an ok idea about what I need

I just started drawing the solar system and started wondering about the grounding of the panels, I don´t see any issue with using the grounding from the breaker panel. Do I need to design something for leakage of current in the solar panel circuit? The solar cells are generating electricity and...
