Do I need a disconnect switch for my inverter?

For the life of me I can't remember why I put a giant on off switch on the 12v input to my Victron MPII. I'm sure I had a good reason at the time. Thought maybe someone could help me with a good reason to have it.

LiFePo4 batteries still charged after 2 winters

Just went out to check the camper in storage. Been sitting there unused for 18 months. My 2xSOK batteries were still at 13.5V. So they survived 2 winters without being charged (or used). Pretty cool. And last winter it got really cold (-20 deg F). We will be using them again this season.

Going to install inverter bypass in RV to stop buzzing while hooked to shore power

Below is my current install with my Victron Multiplus II 12/3000/120x2 50 in my RV. When I am hooked to shore power, it buzzes all the time. Not real loud but I can hear it all the time and it drives me nuts. I don't need it 99% of the time when hooked to shore power, so I want to make the...

Do positive and negative wires need to be the same length to inverter?

I added the current limiter to my inverter and have it installed temporarily. The positive wire to my inverter is one foot long. To install the current limiter the way I want, the negative wire will be 4 ft long. Is this an issue?

Victron MultiPlus II (MPII) Power Share is awesome

Was out at the camper doing some testing of my new Battle Born current limiter. It works great and my BMSs never go into protect mode now. No precharge required. I know I can run one 15k A/C off my Champion 2500 inverter genset, but it cannot run that with the residential fridge. With the MPII...

Put the old non bluetooth (BT) BMSs back in my 2x12V 206Ah SOK batteries

Well, I got around to swapping out my original BMSs without bluetooth to replace the bluetooth ones. I can now turn on the inverter without using the precharge as long as both 12Vx206Ah batteries are connected to the buss. Still won't work on a single battery. But that's better than the BT...

Why can't I turn off my Victron Multiplus II when on shore power?

I would like to turn off my MPII at night because it goes into phsyco buzz mode and it bothers me. But when I turn off the MPII via the remote switch, I lose all power to the camper. Is this normal?

    Resistor size for precharge circuit

My precharge circuit has a 25W 6 ohm resistor. Simple circuit shown below. I have 2x12V SOK 206Ah LFP in parallel feeding a Victron Multiplus II 12/3000/120x2 inverter/charger. When I had the original non bluetooth BMSs in the SOK batteries, this setup worked great. Never had a problem with...

Broke my system out by DC, solar, AC and monitoring

My system diagram has gotten cluttered so I decided to separate the diagram by function. I attached a .pdf but it looks really cool when I do presentation mode in powerpoint. Clicking to the next slide adds a system. Thought I would share the .pdf. Can share a powerpoint version if anyone...

    Cerbo GX Tank 140

I was under my 5er yesterday pulling off the corroplast to check out the workmanship of the underside. Turns out they did a nice job. With the corroplast off, I had easy access to my tanks and started thinking about upgrading my tank level sensors. Found the Cerbo GX Tank 140 and bought it...

Any way to reset BMS on parallel batteries without unparalleling them?

Looking for a way to reset 2x12V SOK 206Ah LFPs in parallel. I do a lot of playing around with load testing and what not and every time I trip the BMS protect, I have to unparallel my batteries, apply power from the SCC to each one individually and then reparallel them. PIA. And sometimes I...

Do I need to switch both positive and negative feeds from solar panels to SCC?

I was in a discussion on an RV forum and the topic of whether to disconnect both positive and negative wires from the solar panels to the SCC is required. I guess it is per NEC code for houses, but not for RVs. While I'm all for codes, I would like to understand why it would be a good idea to...

Weird solar panel failure on RV

Someone posted this on a retirement site I am on: "We are camping in AZ. (First trip in new camper). Right before midnight we heard a loud sound. At first I thought maybe someone whipped a rock at our camper and broke one of our windows. But they all seemed fine. This morning we went on...

    Victron Multiplus II is buzzing

Have the 5er out this weekend for our first trip of the season. It is on shore power. We have a Victron MPII 12/3000 120x2 and it is buzzing loudly. I did some troubleshooting and the buzzing is a result of the DC side. With or without shore power, if there is a DC load, the MPII buzzes. I...

Added the last 2 panels to my 5er

Put 2 more 200W panels on. 1200W for 400Ah of LiFePO4 should be about right. Runs my 15k BTU A/C, fridge and some lights just fine.

Should I redo all my crimps with my new Temco hydraulic crimper?

I drunk bought a Temco hydraulic crimper. I have used the Temco mechanical crimper, the one that uses a hammer that Will recommends. I have 4/0 cable and all seems well with the crimps. Is there a compelling reason to redo all the crimps with the Temco hydraulic crimper?

Just ordered final 2 panels (honest)

Somehow found 2x200W solar panels and mounts in my Amazon cart and hit buy. I got the Rich Solar 200W panels like I already have. For some reason, they are $200 w/ free shipping on Amazon and $239 w/ free shipping on Rich Solar's web site. Weird. Ordered 2 tilt mounts, as well. Not that I...

    Fan to heat LFP

I have my 2xSOK 12V/206Ah LFP batteries mounted under the steps inside my 5er that go into the bedroom. This space is the front basement and gets heat and a/c indirectly through the large vent panel they installed for the converter (that I no longer have installed since I have an...

Thinking of adding a Victron Smart Battery Protect to my system

I am thinking about adding a Victron smart battery protect to my system. I would add it to the wire going to my DC distro panel. I won't add it to the line going to the front with the DC motor loads on it because that is also the line from the DC-DC charger from the truck. I could add a...

    Weird battery behavior (and solar)

I went out to the camper to fix up some wiring. I have 2x12V SOK 206Ah batteries in parallel. I checked the voltage with my shunt before I turned anything on and it sho0wed 12.8V. WTF? I left them @ 13.2 last week. So I unhooked everything from the batteries and they both still showed...

What does a Raspberry Pi + Venus OS do that I can't do with CerboGX?

I have a full Victron system on my RV with a Cerbo GX and display. I got a Raspberry Pi to play with and installed the Venus OS to check it out. Works great, but I have not hooked it into my Victron setup. Just wondering if there is something that the RPi + VenusOS can do that my CerbGX...

Free! 12V to 5V converter to make Victron Lynx distributor LED lights work

I had to buy 4 of these and only need one. They can be used to make an adaptor that allows you to use the Lynx Distributor LEDs without a fancy BMS or shunt. There's a video online for how to do it: PM me your address and I will put one in an envelope and mail it to you...

Fuse holder nut was glowing RED!

I installed my Lynx distributor today and decided to replace my Blue Sea 250A circuit breaker with a 400A class T fuse. The class T fuse holder is from Blue Sea Systems and the fuse is a LittleFuse 400A class T. Got it all hooked up and tested DC only, Solar and low power AC. All worked...

How to test max output of inverter

I was trying to test my system to see if my 2x12V 206Ah SOK batteries could max out my inverter. I was able to put a constant load of 2000W output (2378W input) on the inverter with my microwave and electric fireplace (on low). I hooked up my heat gun thinking I could adjust it to max out the...

Do I really need another battery to feed Victron MPII?

I got my MultiPlus II 12/3000/120x2 installed today. I am feeding it with 2x206 Ah 12V SOK LiFePO4. According to SOK, these are rated for 100A discharge each. Well, I was pulling 230A for several minutes today. Got scared and turned off the loads. I read on the SOK Facebook page that...

Just finished install of MultiPlus II, what a great box

Finally got my MPII 12/3000/120x2 in and got it installed and working. Why didn't I get this in the first place? Hookup is easy: AC in from my shore power, AC out to main panel. That's it. No sub panels, no transfer switches. Other than 6/3 Romex being a beast to work with and the Victron AC...

5' of single 4/0 AWG or 5' of 2 AWG to hook up batteries

I need to move my 3x206Ah 12V SOK batteries to a different place (under the front bed in my 5er). I'll need to run 5' of something from the batteries to my control center. I can run 5' of single 4/0 (400 amps) or 3x5' of 2 AWG. I like the 2 AWG route because it is so much easier to work with...

Need more A but not more Ah: parallel 2x206Ah SOK with single star 100Ah SOK

I have 2x206Ah SOK batteries and a Victron 12/3000 Multiplus II. I need 300A and I only have 200. I don’t need any more Ah so I am considering adding a SOK 100Ah to get to 300A. Is this ok?

Do I need an inverter precharge circuit for a MultiPlus II?

I am installing a Victron Multi Plus II 12/3000/120x2 to replace the two Xantrex inverters and converter/charger I have now. I put in a precharge circuit for the Xantrex inverters. With the Victron, will that be necessary? None of the Victron schematics show a precharge circuit, but who knows?
