EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

Actually, in regards to the packaging, I've been sweating that because I always take my cardboard to the dump very shortly after getting stuff.. I'm considering getting 1 more LiFePo4 battery to round out my array from 5 to 6 + 1 (for the wheelie cart that Will has shown built before). Then I...

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

Yep, to the front of the battery only with the charger, with the breaker in the on position. Won't be connecting them past the exterior. I have tried pressing the reset with breaker on, with breaker off. Holding reset for 15 seconds with breaker on and with breaker off. And lastly holding reset...

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

I think it should, but it hasn't hahah. I've had it off for nearly a day and when I got back to it, still heard the low volume, high pitched buzz/whirr/hum.

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

After charging attempts, and removing the gator clips, voltage reading showing a steady 27.35V. Buzz persists, no light change.

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

Yeah. The thing SS has been curious about is the lack of alarm light. Apparantly the light will be present for all sorts of conditions, but since the 15th, no leds have lit up from any procedure. No luck just yet on the charging activity front. Will double check terminal voltage afterwards to...

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

The charger is acting odd, it turns on for a few seconds, then turns off. Clicks on, waits a few seconds and then off. The behaviour may either be Trickle Charging or Low/Bad battery by the description. I think because there is also a green light alternating with the red light it falls under tbe...

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

I just tested each individual cell voltage as well. All cells are around the 3.32V range. The high pitch humming sound is still constant, though still low volume.

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

Hmm, some bad news, I think, it looks like I can't see the MOSFETs as they are on the other side of of the picture. I can see the silver behind them and the silver looks ok, but would need to remove components to be able to view them from I can tell.

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

Thanks, will wait a bit for support, since I won't be around to do anything just yet anyway. Per the steps provided so far by technical support, I was instructed to remove the case and investigate for any signs of burn damage or cell damage. No sign of damage, only a persistent high pitched sound.

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

Thanks, will also try charging it while attended for about 10 minutes when I get home. And will have my voltmeter monitor the voltages on the terminal side. Also useful to check the internal voltage to see if it is getting through?

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

When I get home later, I can remove one of the batteries from the array and check a known good battery. I did have to update the firmware on them when I got my 6000XP, so have gone through the update and tools utility, but most of the communication is to the inverter via daisy chain.

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

We've been having some daily email exchanges so far. If this was the only battery I owned, I would probably be calling them for live troubleshooting sessions, but this isn't too urgent at the moment. Posting here to get some thoughts and to help any others who run into this same issue in the...

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

I'm certainly no Electrical Engineer, and don't know the details of the BMS. It's possible, and ideal, that upon fault an inoperable BMS will physically block charging to avoid bricking a battery, at least until the BMS can be replaced or fixed. I'm definitely newer to the scene so if that's...

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

I do have the 48V 18A EG4 charger, the old low amperage one and I'm not opposed to using it, just thinking things out. So it faulted on 3-15 for about 5 hours, before I was around to see and remained in breaker on state while the rest of the array was charging, so my thought is that it would...

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

Hmm, I understand that some cells could be higher and some cells lower, but 53.25V / 16 cells = 3.328V which seems like a pretty reasonable number for all cells to be around +/-, also considering no load and no charge. Along with the high pitched noise coming from some component, wouldn't that...

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

I took a meter reading right at the image below and it was 53.25V, so there's something going on with one of the boards or precharge resistor? Seems like cells are fine.

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

With the voltage pretty much exactly half of expected value (last state it was in was probably in the 90%+ range, and recently top balanced), my spidey sense is telling me it's that half of the batteries in series are not seen/linked properly. Is there a nice, safe way, and non warranty-voiding...

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

BMS tool utility was not able to communicate with the battery. I gave it some time as I have had to do before with upgrading the BMS for it to connect, but no luck. Opened the enclosure and everything looks good from what I can tell, I'm trying to see if any bulging cells, but they all look...

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

Not long after I posted, got an email from SS about trying BMS Test and if no luck there, I can take the case off and inspect for any sign of damage. Going to try the BMS test shortly and let thread know how it goes.

EG4 LifePower4 48V Battery showing 27V and High Pitch Buzz

I've got a support case with SS that I'm working with but wondered if anyone else had this issue. Out of the blue, one of the LifePower4 batteries in my array went completely dark - no Run, Alarm, or SoC light showing. Upon removing from the array, I could hear a high pitched noise, and tested...

    Midnite Solar SPD Install Questions

Thanks all! I think my state is in the top 5-10 states for lightning strikes. Not quite as bad as Florida, but have had a handful of run-ins with lightning in my past to make me cautious of potentially losing 5+ LiFePo4 batteries to. I usually flip the PV disconnect during storms, but may not...

    Midnite Solar SPD Install Questions

Hey all, just got four SPDs for my setup - x1 EG4 6000XP with two PV arrays as input. Typical voltage up to 400V. 48/56V battery array, and AC breaker, no grid tie or grid input. SPDs - x2 600VDC for the two solar inputs, x1 300VDC for somewhere connecting to the battery (would have liked a...

Signature Solar Experience, Bad or Good

Since most of the the time these threads draw lots of negativity (people upset are often the most vocal, afterall, and people who are pleased with their product/service have all moved on to the next thing), wanted to give my positive experience. Both in the products they provide and the service...

EG4 LiFePower4 BMS Check while communicating to EG4 6000XP Inverter

Now that I've got my seed mat warmers and temperature detector, we probably won't get cold weather and I probably won't see this error again, but I can say that BMSEvent2 never changed from 0x08 until after I shut down the batteries and starting them up again. Since then they've been 0x00, but...

EG4 LiFePower4 BMS Check while communicating to EG4 6000XP Inverter

Happened again today at 9AM - the inverter shows "BMSEvent1" as a steady 0x00, but "BMSEvent2" changed from 0x00 to 0x08vin the Data History for the Inverter logs. At that time, all of the batteries in the array began flashing red for alarm status. They've continued flashing red and yesterday...

EG4 LiFePower4 BMS Check while communicating to EG4 6000XP Inverter

I was looking at the "Data History" tab on the inverter online data and there are two columns "BMSEvent1" and "BMSEvent2". I suspect these could give some insight, but the data is just a hex code - 0x00 and 0x08. Anyone know a guide or spreadsheet for mapping these codes to their meanings?

EG4 LiFePower4 BMS Check while communicating to EG4 6000XP Inverter

Hey all, I'm seeing alarm light on all my batteries in my LifePower4 battery array and was not seeing any charge indicators. It's been unusually cold here past few days so I suspect it is due to low temperature which I'm guessing the BMS disabled charging while there are low temps. I've seen...

EG4 6000XP Showing 50W Solar input during pitch black

Side question: Is it useful at all to flip the PV disconnect during thunderstorms? Any good precautions I can make? I'm not grid tied at all, so no worries about voltage coming from a burst on the grid at least. I'm in one of the top 10 States for thunderstorms, and though I've never had an...

EG4 6000XP Showing 50W Solar input during pitch black

Thanks @ScrotusGobbleBottom Any worry in grounding the combiner box to the same grounding rod that the AC panel box is going to?

EG4 6000XP Showing 50W Solar input during pitch black

Alright, I flipped the combiner box breaker. Result is that the incoming 50W dropped to 0W immediately. Also, I noticed that there was a ground wire in the combiner box leading out that I have going to a ground rod. Should I just ground at the panels for protection and ignore using this...

EG4 6000XP Showing 50W Solar input during pitch black

Thanks you two. I do think some of the panels could be leaky as they are my old array and have been rained on from a tin roof with some visible aberrations on the glass of some of the panels. Maybe coupled with the recent storm and low temperatures, could have caused a panel to malfunction. If I...

EG4 6000XP Showing 50W Solar input during pitch black

Thanks for sharing your experience, that's interesting and could be related to my issue. It actually stopped last night - went down to 0W around midnight but it went back up to ~30-50W at around 2AM. One thing to note since you mentioned it on your side, is that this particular array is also...

EG4 6000XP Showing 50W Solar input during pitch black

Hey all, a couple days ago I flipped the PV Disconnect off in prep for thunderstorms - I don't know if this helps save the inverter if there's errant voltage that comes in from the panels, but thought it might help - then after the storms I turned the PV array back on. Ever since then one of the...
