I have no experience and don't know where to start. I would like to do a full off grid system.

Since the O.P. is going to build, he should be able to get the figures he needs from all the appliances he plans to buy. If all electric there is a huge difference between heat pumps and an electric baseboard heat system with cheap electric water heater, etc. etc. Even among energy star...

    Solar Thermal Hardware for Sale

Depending on shipping costs. I am interested in a solar thermal setup to supplement my PV, but I am Pennsylvania so shipping would be a killer. How about everything but the tank? Maybe I could use an old 50 gal. water heater tank.PM me please.

Micro Inverters on a hot day

I am going nuts trying to figure out a safe place to store batteries. I was planning to put them underground but there is too much condensation, frost heave, etc. here. The house and finished firetrap of a basement have exactly the same footprint so no where without a "habitable area" above it...

How frequently does your solar system need attention?

Oh, I can perhaps figure it out and design something that will work, but I prefer to pay someone else to let the magic smoke out if needed.;) I am on this DIY site because the few installers around are all doing the same Enphase or SolarEdge based grid tied systems with their respective...

How frequently does your solar system need attention?

Thanks for the reply. .This would not be a day trip even if I knew what I was doing. But it's definitely not a big project.

How frequently does your solar system need attention?

I believe it's about money mostly, but also the unhappy customers that want grid level power at way less than the grid. The big franchises are sucking up the easily repeated ,grid tied, rooftop mount solar business.

How frequently does your solar system need attention?

In response to @Mattb4 comment once I decided to go with off grid rather than the grid tied system I 've had for years, I haven't found anyone willing to do that. All the companies want to do grid tied packages only. I have only been actively looking for someone for a few months, so I will...

Proud of my 2-day solar array build

Are you using optimizers with your inverters ? I might be tempted to use microinverters in that location, but have never tried either . Might save cutting down a tree or two or three ...

    Heat Pump Water Heater Recommendation

Mine seemed to be pretty effective as a dehumidifier as well. I run a dehumidifier all season (some years 2) but I remember thinking there was a lot less water to dump when I first got it. Then I set up the dehumidifier on a sink with a drain.

    Heat Pump Water Heater Recommendation

We don't have an appliance forum, right? No, but it's probably a good idea. I have a GE maybe? heatpump from a decade ago and kept the old tank plumbed to the new one (no element active, just extra storage) and have never had an issue with mine as far as performance. The menu and display are...

4000 Watt Holiday Rambler Class A Build

Very possible. We have a lot of Mennonite and Amish that use propane refrigerators full time. But they aren't banged around at 60 mph either.

4000 Watt Holiday Rambler Class A Build

As above. I asked the op if the unit had a compressor fridge, induction cooktop, etc.

4000 Watt Holiday Rambler Class A Build

I said the 3 way absorption fridges usually standard in small rvs are inefficient all three ways and won't freeze an ice cube. That`s not just my experience, it`s pretty well known among campers and boaters. The compression refrigerators that I`ve seen in RVs are not 3 way units. Three ways...

4000 Watt Holiday Rambler Class A Build

Absorption fridges are terribly inefficient on AC and on 12 volt DC and on propane ... and none of them can freeze a tray of ice cubes So inefficient cubed , I guess.;) Like

SMA Sunny Island: parallel to the grid or islanding?

Yeah. I figured that out fast when I realized I would need two inverters for 110/220 loads.

Trying to build a super simple system.

There are videos on this. Usually experiments.

Actually the three way refrigerators standard on small rvs are all absorption, no compressor IIRC.

    My new array

Probably get a nice spike in June or July. What latitude ? Maybe 35 or 36? I`m 43 degrees I think.

    My new array

So they should still add up to about 3 KW mounted like that, right?

    My new array

reply to wrong post sorry. But a carport or a screened off area below that roof would be just great. And have lots of curb appeal as the realtors say.

I`m thinking solar carport. Great place to park below that pic.

Good looking install. What is the floor of the patio ? Something reflective like white gravel or white painted boards would be nice.

But it's a dry heat right? ;) I wonder about using one of those portable 100v AC units on a 3K system overnight, over here where it's not so hot, but humid .

4000 Watt Holiday Rambler Class A Build

Very interesting. I've seen 12 volts do some impressive stuff , but I believe higher voltage is necessary. Hard to eliminate propane.
