    Looking At Charge Controllers...

I too prefer a component system and for mine, I chose a low frequency inverter because of their durability and ability to handle a surge load better than a high frequency inverter. I purchased the 3000-watt DC12v/AC120v version of the inverter linked below. It has no bells and whistles, it's...

    Coronavirus

Definitely. Plus if my orders do arrive, I'll wipe them down with isopropyl alcohol. I don't know if that helps but I'll do it anyway.

I thought the same thing but decided that it would be a risk I was willing to take. LOL, crazy me.

    Coronavirus

I wonder if the outbreak is going to put a damper on imports from China. If it does, I might be in for a long wait to get my last order.

    Battery charger for Lithium battery.

The Victron Multi-Plus line of inverter-chargers are impressive units that are well represented at least by their cost. I'd get one but I stubbornly insist on using component systems rather than integrated ones. That is, I have an inverter and a charger - if one goes down then it would be the...

    Battery charger for Lithium battery.

That's exactly what I've been doing. Because all that really matters is proper voltage and sufficient current.

    Battery charger for Lithium battery.

I should add that some Lithium battery chargers use a blanket term to include LiFePO4 batteries as well. But there are some chargers that are specifically made to charge Lithium Ion batteries only. So check the specs before buying. I've checked the aforementioned Victron; it appears safe for...

    Battery charger for Lithium battery.

Victron products appear sparse here in the USA. I've only come across a few, mostly on Amazon and on boating/yachting supply websites. I think Victron's manufacturing plant is in one of the twelve provinces of the Netherlands, maybe North Holland, South Holland, Drenthe, Limburg, Etc.. Oh...

    Battery charger for Lithium battery.

The datasheet on this one looks good for LiFePO cells in a 12v configuration. https://www.victronenergy.com/chargers/blue-smart-ip65-charger Victron also makes that model for 24v systems.

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

Lucky you. I can't think of anything that's more fun, more rewarding, and more useful to society than being a teacher.

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

That's true. The reason why I figured you could get by with 50 amps was because if 100 amps can handle a 1500 watt load for an hour then 50 amps should be able to handle it for 10-15 minutes.

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

Cool. Then we're back to square one - two 12v batteries or two 24v ones. Me, I'd go with the 24v ones because like Craig said, if the BMS in one battery in a 2x12v configuration turns the battery off, then.... oops, no 24v power at all.

    Hello from Sacramento

Welcome aboard, Steve. The Forum might be of more help if you stick to the brands known, tested, and mostly discussed here. But I could be wrong so would you provide a link to those batteries you mentioned - I'll have a look at them.

    UK Members.?

Welcome aboard, ianlloyd100. In light of the political climate and economic differences around the world these days, most consumers regardless of location might be more concerned with simply receiving their purchase from another country rather than how long it might take.

    Hello there everyone!

Welcome aboard, Rand. I'd like to help you out with the Tesla batteries but all I know about them is close to nothing and never even heard of there being a a six volt Tesla battery. I think there's a 12v module for cars and a 50v PowerWall for homes but that's all I know about the batteries...

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

Hey Scott... you still with us? Inquiring minds want to know what you've decided.

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

Yeah but adding a side of fries to the order will cost more.
  19. Max Bender

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

You're absolutely right, and that would be something for Scott to consider if he's thinking about going with one 24v 50amp battery instead of two. Although he could get by with only one battery (and save $999), he'd have to stay very close to the 10-15 minute window of battery use. In that...

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

No difference as far as duration goes with a 2400 load. What we're working with tho is the 1500 watt load of whatever appliance that Scott is using.
  21. Max Bender

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

That makes perfect sense. And in hindsight, I see that the difference in cost for two of either battery isn't that much - 'bout a hundred bucks is all.
  22. Max Bender

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

You're absolutely correct. But we don't yet know if Scott will go for two 12v batteries or two 24v batteries.
  23. Max Bender

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

If Scott used two 24v batteries and one turns off, could the remaining battery run his appliance at least for a little while?
  24. Max Bender

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

The common denominator is 1500 watts. The variable is either two 12v 100ah batteries wired in series for 24 volts at 100 amps or two 24v 50ah batteries wired in parallel for 24 volts at 100 amps. The length of time that each battery configuration will sustain a 1500 watt load is the same - no...

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

Why is BB charging so much for their 24v 50ah battery? Doesn't it contain the same number of cells as their 12v 100aH battery just wired to make it a 24v 50ah battery? Plus there isn't that much of a cost difference between a 12v and a 24v BMS, is there?
  26. Max Bender

Two 12v in series or two 24v in parallel?

Two 12v 100ah batteries wired in series will sustain a 1500 watt load for about an hour.

    LiFePO4 questions

It was for consistency - to remain within the context of the thread is why I'd referred to a battery as being a cell. Or did you not notice that others before me had called a battery a cell? It's true that correct terminology makes things easy to understand by everyone contributing in the...

    LiFePO4 questions

Cells, battery, battery pack, battery bank - I understand, although I fail to see how the cost of a BMS is relevant to the definition or difference between a cell, a battery, or a battery whatever. I suppose that the cost of a BMS can be added as a side note but the cost of a BMS was not the...

Yikes!!! $5604.05 for thirty-two $200aH batteries versus $3146.74 for thirty-two 150aH batteries??? That's $2439.31 more for an increase of only 50aH per battery (see pdus's link at beginning of thread)!!! For $688 more than the cost of thirty-two 200aH batteries, you can get sixty-four...

    LiFePO4 questions

BLS sells a set of four 200aH batteries for $699. Four orders (sixteen batteries) costs $2796. Four batteries wired in series will produce a 12v @ 200aH battery bank, times four equals four 12v @ 200aH battery banks. Two of those banks wired in series will produce a 24v battery @200aH. Two...

    LiFePO4 questions

A bank of two 3.2v batteries @100aH with each battery wired in series would produce a bank of 6.4v @100ah. Sixteen of those banks wired in series would create a bank of 102.4v @ 100aH, and wired in parallel would create a bank of 6.4v @1600aH - a total of thirty-two batteries. The way you...

    LiFePO4 questions

Oh hey, if you go with 200aH batteries, that same store also sells CALB LiFePo4 ones. Four orders of four in each order would cost around $2800. They can be wired for 48v @ 400ah. CALB batteries are a little bit larger and heavier than Prismatic batteries but much more rugged. Not only that...
