Merlin Solar - Flexible Solar Panels

The Merlin stuff is probably the most durable among Si flex panels. They aren't cheap, but they are tough. Something about the grid connections they use (instead of bus bars) makes them more robust. They also perform well in oblique sun angles compared to others I've used. One of the members...

    BougeRV CIGS - Any Reviews?

Good summary. I agree, they have some really attractive advantages over traditional flexible silicon panels. If the earlier durability issues have been licked the adoption of CIGS will increase and drive down cost. Interesting that BougeRV is the one spearheading these. Any idea who makes...

Solar panel for taylor dunn cart/golf cart

Just curious, why keep Voc under 40 volts? The Genasun data sheet recommends 50 V as a recommended max Voc. (60 V is the true max input voltage but I can see why they recommend 50 Voc to account for the panel's temp coefficient & mfg variation)

SOK 48V rack battery - peak discharge current is NOT 200 amps

It's from SOK's website! Right here (click the 'Spec Sheet' link on this page): https://www.us.sokbattery.com/product-page/sok-48v-100ah-server-rack-lifepo4-battery FYI this same spec sheet showing 200 amps is also on your (Current Connected's) site in the fourth image in the carousel on this...

SOK 48V rack battery - peak discharge current is NOT 200 amps

SOK's spec sheet for their SK48V100 rack battery lists its peak discharge current as 200 amps (for 3 sec). This is incorrect. What's the correct value? Well... Current Connected's spec sheet lists this battery's peak discharge current as 125 amps, as per their own in-house testing. Upon...

    EG4 48v 25a Battery Charger Update

23 A output... assuming the default 27.5 A CC target, 23 A is about what the derate curve would suggest, at 120 VAC. Unless I'm misunderstanding?

    EG4 48v 25a Battery Charger Update

Thanks for the feedback. That's great to hear. I wonder what's up with that derating curve, then...

    EG4 48v 25a Battery Charger Update

Hey Robby, are you able to get max output from the Meanwell 1600? The derate curve (attached) on that model's spec sheet suggests it'll only put out its rated power when fed 230 VAC. On 115 VAC, it looks like the Meanwell 1600 will produce 75-80% of rated power. What's your experience?

New 48 volt rack battery specs-what do you want to see?

I have mobile applications with batteries, and I'd love for them to be as light as possible. For sure the lion's share of weight is the cells. Is there any low hanging fruit among the (I assume heavy-gauge steel) chassis and case? Would a sporty one made from aluminum (and/or plastics) shave...

The hunt for an elusive inverter

I'm working on a project that requires an inverter with a particular set of characteristics. So far, the hunt has not been terribly fruitful. Can you help? 3500-4500 watts 48 VDC input / 120 VAC 60 Hz output pure sine wave Parallelable! This is important Off-grid use only (does not require AC...

    Rack-mount inverters (off-grid)

Any suggestions for manufacturers of decently-rugged (industrial?) rack-mount 48V inverters suitable for mobile use? HF or LF, no preference at this point. Continuous power in the 3 kW to 5 kW range. Stacking smaller units is also an option. Most of the rack-mount inverters I've found are...

48V battery charging w/ 48V bank - DC converter, or...

Sounds like MPPT is a dud for this idea, I appreciate the feedback. I looked at those 48V Victron Orion converters but they're not intended for battery charging, and Victron's "smart" Orion charger line only goes up to 24V (no 48V unit). So the hunt continues...

48V battery charging w/ 48V bank - DC converter, or...

Thanks, yes, the MPPT would like a higher voltage input for optimal power point tracking. For this situation though, I'm wondering if that matters?

48V battery charging w/ 48V bank - DC converter, or...

I'm devising an in-vehicle solar charging hub to charge individual 48V batteries. A 48V-48V DC-DC charger would be the ideal way to do this... but I'm not having much success finding a suitable one. Has anyone else been down this road? Alternatively, is there any reason I couldn't instead use...
