Over .100 mv off balance at the end of a full charge on a new battery, concerning or no?

Word. My jbd bms is made to handle significantly more cells than 8 on a variable basis. The wiring for 8 cells calls for almost all of the extra wires to go on cell 6 or 7. Seemed kind of odd to me but has worked out. These are the 280ah Eve cells sold by Docan Power. They came with terminals...

Over .100 mv off balance at the end of a full charge on a new battery, concerning or no?

Thank you, "terminals" was the very basic word my brain was sundowning on last night. I'm currently getting out of the door for a trip across the country, so I don't have time to disassemble the battery at the moment, but i think the two small lugs were thick enough to cause the terminal to spin...

Over .100 mv off balance at the end of a full charge on a new battery, concerning or no?

Roger that. I don't have a torque wrench, but I'll acquire one before I go playing doctor. Sorry, sunshine_eggo, been a long day of doing a lot more than trying to solve my battery. I see that you're absolutely correct and the cells only appear balanced when they fall below 3.4 volts. The...

Over .100 mv off balance at the end of a full charge on a new battery, concerning or no?

Alas, I left the charger on for several hours and the balance improved only minimally. I then turned the charger off and it was completely balanced within 20 minutes. Turned it back on, and the same cell fell behind immediately I guess I will be opening it up tomorrow and checking all the...

Over .100 mv off balance at the end of a full charge on a new battery, concerning or no?

Thanks, I'll double check all that. The balancing values you refer to are "balanced turn on voltage" and "balance precision", right? Can you help me understand why having it balance later and reduce precision would help the cells stay in balance?

Over .100 mv off balance at the end of a full charge on a new battery, concerning or no?

Hey everyone, recently built a 24v battery with the help of Will's resources and the helpful folks here on the forum. I top balanced them to 3.65 in parallel before assembly, but it seems they haven't reached 3.65 upon my next attempt because one cell is lagging behind? This is a jbd bms and the...

Removing bolts on B- and C- on JBD BMS without tearing it apart?

Thank you guys so much. Don't know why I didn't think of the impact gun. Even with it, it took a lot of work to get B- off. They appear to have used some thread sealant on it. That was my last hiccup and now I have my first working DIY battery assembled and functional :)

Removing bolts on B- and C- on JBD BMS without tearing it apart?

This thread concerns the bolts/nuts holding the thick black/blue cables on my JBD 200A BMS. These are 4 AWG cables, and using the information in this thread I established that for my battery, it would be wise to replace this with 2/0 cable. Problem is, these nuts are so tight that there is no...

Having trouble top balancing with a lab DC charger

I missed that detail, thanks, making sure that's done from here on.

Having trouble top balancing with a lab DC charger

I've got 8 280ah eve cells connected in parallel. They all came at 3.27volts, so after getting them connected I hooked them up to a 10amp lab DC charger set to 3.65. Important to note that I was only getting 10 watts initially and it's been hovering around 30 watts ever since I crimped some 8ga...

Can't find battery case for 8s Eve 280ah cells. Any tips for building my own?

How? I found boxes for groups 24-31 that are only 1" longer than the cells themselves, and about half as wide as I need. Even this super long box is an inch or two short to put them in a row. The DIY wood projects look pretty effective. Leaning that way if I can't find a decent box.

Wire size for 200amp JBD BMS that comes with 4 awg attached?

Great, thank you! Especially for the math on the amps, very helpful.

Wire size for 200amp JBD BMS that comes with 4 awg attached?

I don't possess the inverter yet, most detailed specs I can find are on this page. I don't see a specific value for the low voltage disconnect. Is there a typical range? If I'm reading the manual correctly, the BMS defaults to 300 amps over-current disconnect.

Wire size for 200amp JBD BMS that comes with 4 awg attached?

I've established that I want to carry the load in my system with 2/0 awg wire. It's 24 volt 280ah and I want to be able to use a 3000 watt inverter. The JBD BMS I got already has 4 awg wires and lugs attached for two negative leads. I'm wondering if I should replace these with 2/0 awg as well...

Connecting a JBD BMS for 2p4s vs 8s, ok either way?

Ahhh okay thanks, very glad I put this one in the Beginners forum :P

Connecting a JBD BMS for 2p4s vs 8s, ok either way?

So I'm building a 24 volt battery and it looks like the simplest way to do that is straight up 8s, but since these are 280ah cells, that makes for a very long battery. I've noticed 2p4s is used in a lot of videos and documentation. Looks great, but I'm wondering if this changes how I will...

Can't find battery case for 8s Eve 280ah cells. Any tips for building my own?

Title says it all. Seems like they don't make a lot of cases for batteries this size. I could throw something together out of wood, but I'm too much of a noob to know do's/don'ts in this regard. Flammability a concern? Breathability? This battery will be living in a vehicle in an off road...

Rigid solar panels, vibrations, and roof rack mounting. Prone to cracking?

Thanks, those are great suggestions. I was thinking hanging around the 200watt range might net me sturdy panels that still pull a decent amount. I've already got the parts for the 8s 280ah Eve battery, so I'll be using that behemoth, though I've recently discovered that cases for that size of...

Rigid solar panels, vibrations, and roof rack mounting. Prone to cracking?

I'm building an off-grid solar system for full time nomadery. It'll need to move at least every two weeks or so. My partner and I will be setting our camp up out of a van and a Jeep Wrangler. The van can't make it into any especially unmaintained NFS/BLM roads, so I was hoping to transport the...

Best BMS for 24 volt system w/ ~3000 watt inverter?

Got it. That seems like a pretty important feature. Do you happen to know if Overkill BMS supports connecting multiple units in series? Maybe it would be better to use 2x12 volt batteries with 100amp Overkill BMS and make a 200amp 24 volt that way

Best BMS for 24 volt system w/ ~3000 watt inverter?

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind if I can find any other options in the US. Just curious, when you say balance capacity, do you mean maintaining cell balance over time, or can the BMS be used to balance the cells upon assembly?

Best BMS for 24 volt system w/ ~3000 watt inverter?

Thanks for the link, several good options there, but I'm having trouble finding any of the recommended options available in the US. I'll be out on my arse by the time parts arrive from China. I did find some of the Daly BMS on Amazon, though he doesn't have amazing things to say about them...

Best BMS for 24 volt system w/ ~3000 watt inverter?

That inverter would work for my purposes, if that's what you're asking? I haven't purchased one yet.

Best BMS for 24 volt system w/ ~3000 watt inverter?

Newbie to the forum here. So my story is that I'm going off-grid because I've got health problems that screwed up my finances and ability to work and I'm looking to be nomadic for a bit while I recover, both physically and financially. I offer this background to explain why I'm jumping in the...
