Optimal winter angle for cloudy days without sun

... it blows a fuse on your meter. Been there. I don't know if it is safe to do it for larger panels, but what I did I just shorted plus and minus cables of the panel and measured current with my clamp meter. Worked fine for a portable 140w panel.

Optimal winter angle for cloudy days without sun

I think to make a solid conclusion you'd have to monitor it for more than one day since there's a lot of factors that could affect the results. But I think I could take my portable panel and measure the output on a cloudy day while the panel is flat vs perpendicular. Maybe I'll do it at some...

Optimal winter angle for cloudy days without sun

From what I am seeing most of the people reagard more perpendicular angle like 60 degrees as the most optimal tilt for the winter. The reason being is that the sun is low during the winter. So they're orienting towards the sun. Which should make sense, right? But the thing is that in my area...

    EB Tester Software Capacity Bug?

    1. No, you're running not the one that I've mentioned I haven't found reports about that issue with 40L. 2. There are multiple reports. Even if there's a mysterious issue with our machines that we don't know about and just can't find - people deserve to know that it may not work with their...

    EB Tester Software Capacity Bug?

I wouldn't recommend this tester if you want graphs on PC. I have problems with the software being frozen randomly (thread). I wanted to buy 40A version but after seeing all these issues I am looking for an alternative.

    Zketech EBC-A20 software frozen

Upd: I disabled windows power setting for turning off USB outputs and at first it seemed that it helped as it was running for a whole day without any issues. But then it froze again. It seems to me that the reason might be in the supplied USB cable. It is very flimsy and feels loose in the...

    Zketech EBC-A20 software frozen

Same. Discharge seems to work fine, but in a charge mode the software is frozen two times now. So were you actually able to solve the problem?

    Top balance cutoff current?

But the goal is not to make 3.65V at the terminals. It is to make a battery full. You can accomplish it even by charging at 3.4V, the only question is time. Eventually it will become 100% charged. So setting 3.65V CV is fine, it will definitely charge a battery to 100%. When it stops absorbing...

    Top balance cutoff current?

Well, for now I am doing a capacity test, cause one of my new cells in 12V bank charged quicker than the other ones, though they started at a very close to each other voltage (definitely less than 0.015V difference). I was doing "pre-balancing", that's why connected them in series. So I decided...

    Top balance cutoff current?

I am doing a similar test with EBC-A20 (5A max in charge mode). Just a single EVE 280Ah cell, should I set the cutoff current to 5A so it cuts off immediately on reaching 3.65V? But then if you charge with a bigger EBC-A40L at 40A, when you reach 3.65V and you've set 14A cutoff current, that...

Do I need to balance 48V strings? How?

12V batteries, 48V strings, 2 in parallel, connected to buss bars: I can throw a balancer on each string like this: But what about the balance between the two strings? Do I have to worry about that? I know that the Victron and some others suggest doing it this way: That'll keep em all...

Best Battery Balancer/Equalizer Found So Far

That's fine, but what if I have 48V strings in parallel? Your case is easier since you only have two batteries in a string, so you put a balancer on each string and then connect balancers - done. I wish they've included some real use-case connection diagrams in their product description. I also...

Open circuit battery in a series string while midpoint connected to a battery in other string: how much current will flow?

the problem is that modern battery monitor systems (Victron) suggest doing it in their manuals. I am trying to understand the mechanism of that fault. I've been told that if one battery trips open, than the other battery receives a full stack charge/discharge. I want to understand how that...

An interesting drawing from Victron regarding Battery Balancing on a budget using 12V Batteries in Series/Parallel and cable sizing.

Sorry, edited: https://a.co/d/09do86g I am just thinking if should buy 6 victron balancers for 4S2P bank or could save some money with those chinese balancers. I don't want to connect midpoints, so would need 6 of them. I like the idea of having just one balancer per string, however I don't...

Open circuit battery in a series string while midpoint connected to a battery in other string: how much current will flow?

Thanks for sharing. I saw it, but I don't think I need it. I have a relatively small battery bank. @Ampster do you think that's right?

Alright ? Maybe that will work. Do you think it is fine to take 6 of those and put betwenn each battery in two 48V strings? Could I just use two of these? https://a.co/d/09do86g

Open circuit battery in a series string while midpoint connected to a battery in other string: how much current will flow?

To learn. This config was adviced in a product manual. I was told that is bad. I want to know why it is bad. To identify other bad configurations if I see them in the future.

Thanks. But you've mentioned it is just one per series string? These look like they're placed between each pair of batteries

Open circuit battery in a series string while midpoint connected to a battery in other string: how much current will flow?

I want to understand what is the current flow in such configuration when battery Y trips open: Where and how much current will flow when Y is open.

Open circuit battery in a series string while midpoint connected to a battery in other string: how much current will flow?

First of all, thanks for bearing with me. You explain exceptionally well. And I think that I've finally gotten it! Here's an updated diagram, I showed the interesting part of the flow with purple: If that's right, then it is clear where 200A is coming from and which battery takes that load...

Open circuit battery in a series string while midpoint connected to a battery in other string: how much current will flow?

Can you please tell me in reference to the diagram where the current will flow when the battery Y trips open? And how much current? I don't quite understand what is "that remaining 12 volt battery" as if one battery is open, there's still 7 of them.

Open circuit battery in a series string while midpoint connected to a battery in other string: how much current will flow?

I have 8, maybe will have 12. But my main goal is to clarify how the electrons flow through the batteries. This is the page from my battery's manual that confused me I am trying to understand the path of the electons flow. Let's say we're charging with some current (200A) and that the battery...

    48V individual strings fusing

Also see here: So introducing buss bars adds a lor of complexity and additional questions for me to post on this forum. As long as I have just two strings, I am not concerned about the balance and can just connect diagonally. Adding bussbars would be necessary for three or more strings.

    48V individual strings fusing

Well, that would require buying buss bars. The good ones are $90-$120 + lugs. Also additional installation complexity. Wire lengths to the buss bars should be of an equal lengths: another place for the mistake. If that's the only way to fuse then I'll have to buy buss bars, but really is there...

    48V individual strings fusing

I see the advices in several places to fuse each individual string in series-parallel battery banks. I am having this configuration: With 48V strings that should be T class fuses. They are designed to be used with wall-monted holders. So how exaly should I fuse each individual string?

Open circuit battery in a series string while midpoint connected to a battery in other string: how much current will flow?

Wouldn't it work the same way for this wiring But I was adviced that this method is better. So something else must be going on here. Because it is a well-known company that explicitly brings attention to apparently the same problem. So I used their example to better explain what I mean, which...

Open circuit battery in a series string while midpoint connected to a battery in other string: how much current will flow?

Hmmm alright, let's try to go with an example. So we have 4s4p bank 12V bank, each battery is 100Ah. I don't understand what do you mean by "total current"? In a series string max current will be 100A, given 4 parallel strings, - the max current for the bank will be 400A. Let's say we're...
