looking for a good quality bms for my large 14s system

I found that out! I have one also. All the ring terminals are crimped. Once I get the cells compressed, I'll be ready to hook it up!

Best way to compress cells in packs

You should not use a torque tool in the top or bottom 15% if it's range. They are known to be inaccurate at these extremes. There are many different types and sizes of torque tools. Do a search for tools that are in in/lbs and you will find a wide assortment.

I ended up just telling my phone to forget the password. There are not a lot of computing resources inside the box. An external Wi-Fi dongle ports CAN bus data to a website. Have you watched any of the videos where people hack the CAN bus in a vehicle and start tinkering? If automakers...

My money is on security as the main reason. When a port is opened for communication, there is now a risk of malware or other intrusions coming in that way. I know that after I set up my WiFi dongle, my phone kept connecting to that every time I came home because it is closer to the door than...

    Avoiding Galvanic Corrosion

I'm adding in high density foam 1-2mm thick between the cells to compensate for the expansion and contraction of the cells as they charge and discharge. The full range is only 0.5mm, per cell. This means very little relative motion from one cell to another as long as they are properly compressed.

    Sol-Ark Inverters 8 and 12K

I read on the forums here that the Seplos BMS are compatible with the SolArk. I'm planning to try one, but haven't got around to buying one yet. They had a max current of 100A, but I have seen higher current ones lately. I don't want to be a beta tester, so I'm waiting to be sure their...

Here's the post in this thread directly from a member of the SolArk Management team. I have no reason not to believe them. I talked to him about my SolArk before I had it installed. Most of what you are saying is hearsay and I have no idea who you are. The fact is, they are pretty...

DEYE Inverter UL Listed available in US

The reason you can't find them in the US is because SolArk owns the design and prohibits the other brands that they allow to produce them to sell in other countries, just not in the US. It's an IP issue. If you put significant resources into designing a product, would you just let the factory...

    This could be interesting

Your sources mentioned, but didn't elaborate on the material shortages that are the root cause of the microchip shortage. Mandatory shutdowns definitely had a huge impact on everything, but the highly automated processes of the semiconductor industry should have been easy to meet social...

    This could be interesting

As we spend trillions of dollars on cheap Chinese solar panels, we keep all of the Chinese factories operating. In the meantime, solar manufacturing elsewhere is going down the tube. When the tariffs level the playing field to compensate for the Chinese government subsidies, North America...

    Sol-Ark Inverters 8 and 12K

I completely understand. I'm thinking that you can communicate with your BMS via CAN since it won't talk to SolArk. Then, monitor your PV in and AC in/out for the rest of the picture. I know it's extra equipment (ie. Cost) but you could get better data that way. Not terribly difficult to set...

    Sol-Ark Inverters 8 and 12K

I don't think I would label using the cloud (internet based) data stream can be construed as "Big Brother". Maybe you need to read 1984 again. Encryption means that your data is yours and cannot be taken from you for any reason. Not even SolArk could break it. It's not nefarious, just...

    Tell me about SolArk.

My cost would not have changed. I had a set cost for the full install and the RSD was on the drawing. My metal roof isn't going to catch fire

    Tell me about SolArk.

My jurisdiction has not adopted NEC 2014, so no RSD required. I considered pushing the issue and having them install them, but I knew the system would be grandfathered and by the time I do anything to be required to meet the new code, the RSDs would need to be replaced anyway. There is a...

    Home made bus bar specs?

I'm building the same 48V system with 280Ah cells. I thought I would offer a little of my insight to this thread. I don't see that anyone considered the corrosion aspect of the bus bars. Copper connected to the aluminum terminals, especially in an environment where humidity or other moisture...

looking for a good quality bms for my large 14s system

No. I wasn't able to get definitive answers. The best I got was someone telling me that they are JST connectors. That is probably true, but JST has several series of connectors. I haven't searched for which one it is. I'm not sure it would work in the end anyway. The baus rate on the BMS...

    Sol-Ark Inverters 8 and 12K

Very good information! Thanks for sharing your experience. I have been searching for this myself. I need to look into the Seplos BMSs. Though, 100A won't withstand the 185A charhe current from the SolArk, I suppose at 48V that's enough to absorb the hit from my A/C starting up. With the...

New Daly "Smart" BMS w/ Communication. (80-250A)

Proper electrical design should always leave margin between the use case and the limits of the equipment. Probably not 50%, but a 20% derating is pretty common to ensure that problems do not evolve from pushing the limits. The temperature rise needs to be taken into consideration. A lot of...

Best way to compress cells in packs

According to the latest revision of the EVE datasheet, the difference between the 30% (71.5mm) and the 100% (72.0mm) charge dimension is 0.5mm both are +/-1mm. So the change in thickness is within the margin of error. That's a little less than 0.020". I'm not going to spend too much effort...

    Avoiding Galvanic Corrosion

Yes. It is a flooded battery and sulfuric acid is definitely corrosive. The camper hadn't moved in months, so there was no splashing. The battery is well vented which allows humidity in. I'm not sure I can agree with you that the acid is the dominant factor. If you look closely, you will...

    Avoiding Galvanic Corrosion

I was changing the converter in my camper to be able to install the lithium batteries. When I pulled the battery terminals off, there was a lot of corrosion. It has only been about 6 months since I installed my battery cutoff switch. I installed gold plated terminals at that time to try to...

Heltec BMS' (up to 350A) with Active Balancing & Independent Active Balancers

The important part is to get the right crimp tool. The automotive industry is pretty much crimp only, and I there are few places with a harsher environment. https://www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/solder-vs-crimping/

I sprung for the EMP option, so this pic would show any enclosure differences. There is definitely more to it. Ferrites were put on every wire coming from the panels and there are more that go on the battery cables. I haven't opened up the top, so I don't know whats up there. (yet) From...

I think there you are probably fairly close to the mark. There is obviously a market for an all-in-one product everywhere. SolArk may not have designed every CCA, but probably commissioned the product and sent the design to China for cheap manufacture. SolArk having the IP rights in the US is...
