can anybody recommend me a good bms ?

Thank you for the detailed reply Samsonite! JBD Bms are coming up often when people mention good bms, so I'll check that out in-depth. Will mentioned Pace, but I couldn't find any good info about them. That flexibility in 8s to 24s is pretty awesome too. I'll check out those AIMS chargers for...

can anybody recommend me a good bms ?

I'll be running a 36v trolling motor that has the ability to be run in 24v (to save weight) as well, and in either mode, max draw won't exceed 60a continuous. 12v batteries are easy to swap around between 24v and 36v, although I'm considering making one 12s, 36v array and keeping it that way...

Is this the Pace BMS in all the server rack batteries?

Thanks Skypower, for this little tidbit of critical info! Took quite a bit to find that seller, and their listing is bizarre; You're in the CNeel store, you select a bms, and then your buying option is Eel Battery, and they have a store! It's like you're in a Matrix Maze ;) !! Oh and no one is...

can anybody recommend me a good bms ?

Hmm, you think that's a good thing, a SS relay vs a good ol' mechanical one? I've used neither so I do no know. I'd hope that newer = improved. Overkillsolar prices look fair too compared to paying aliexpress shipping? Forgive me for the basic question, but looking at wiring diagrams on...

    German made BMS?

Hey Hedges, Very interesting, that REC bms, I'll have to research it more. Seems like a big HD relay would be what engine starting would need, right? I've noticed that tiny jumpstarters can kick out massive amps compared to their capacity. That's crazy, 1,500A! Looks like some kinda pouch...

can anybody recommend me a good bms ?

Can anyone mention the names of the real (alibaba) sellers for these BMS? I've noticed a BUNCH of sellers list them, but who's got the real McCoy? Do any of these have a shunt of sorts to determine the % charge fairly accurately?

    German made BMS?

My only concern is damaging the cells, because I don't really know how many amps starting will draw? My cells have a 2C discharge so my 100A module should only burst 200A. Don't many BMS handle that high amp? I've looked into putting a shunt inline, but didn't find a bms that could use shunt info...

    German made BMS?

Very nice Josh, and I like that 36v recommendation, with a challenge is making a container for the 12s 36v cells, or maybe I only need to make a splash shield for the BMS and the cells can be open? I'm using Frey cells that have top/bottom caps you can connect with 4 long all-thread rods and has...

    German made BMS?

Hey JBibler; Just following you here because I'm in the same boat as you, as in, trying to make a DIY LifePO4 cell pack work for marine/auto engine starting and charging from the alternator and am looking for a higher quality BMS overall. Bluetooth app on phone is important for me, have you...

Budget 12V 100AH LiFePO4, LiTime vs Power Queen?

You brought up a great point Tom, about balancing the 3 or 4 12.8v series modules between themselves? I've been using SLA batteries in series for 36v for eons, but never thought of balancing until now that I'm setting up LifePO4 modules to do the same thing? Can you recommend any good 12.8v...

    36v trolling motor battery

How many hundred amp hours does that cell equate to? Does that jive with the performance you've gotten? I wanted to use prismatic LifePO4 cells because it seems they can handle more cycles than the lithium-ion cells I've compared them to, but that Chevy (volt?) battery, isn't that something like...

    48v marine battery pack 300ah

That is a real concern Dan, we've seen a few of those aluminum 6mm thread terminals strip out. Also look at the Fortune/Frey cells because they have many excellent ways to connect the cells and their terminals are strong. In applications with a lot of motion or even impact like boating this is key.

    48v marine battery pack 300ah

To add to what Ampster said, your second idea for 100Ah cells does add redundancy, but keep in mind a 16S BMS will treat the three 100Ah parallel pack as a single 300ah 3.2v cell, and in all reality it doesn't make much of a difference because that's what's going on inside a big cell anyways. If...

What about using lithium for starting

Three reasons I'll replace LA AGM with LifePO4: _ Weight: critical in my application _ Power: twice that of LA _ Price: The large Odyssey or Northstate Pure Lead AGM's i prefer are about $400 give or take. Very dependable, reliable, and 77 lbs. I will be DIY'ing a 150ah LifePO4 and the cells...

What about using lithium for starting

I was thinking it's the amps that don't have anywhere to go when the BMS cuts the charges port that kills an alternator, but you're right, there's also the lack of charge resistance on lithium batteries that makes the alt think it's got a big load when it doesn't, and could get hot, and that's...

What about using lithium for starting

There are a LOT of people using off-the-shelf LifePO4 batteries for starting petrol engines. Some using them in cars, but I've read about many doing it in boats with a variety of outboard and inboard motors. I've done a little survey on another forum about boating, bbcboards dot net, under the...

Does anyone need premium Li-ion battery to DIY your solar system?

I was not planning on going Chargery, probably just use the popular and less expensive DGJBD because I need many of them, which supposedly doesn't start balancing until the cells reach top charge voltage. Does anyone need premium Li-ion battery to DIY your solar system?

You may be right Gazoo about not needing active balancing with new well balanced cells, but in my case, I was thinking, I'm going to short cycle my cells to maximize the cycle life as per Will's video suggestion (and to allow headroom in alternator charging situations, avoid HVD), so my cells...

Hello @peter.w; Your battery pack looks very good however we do like to assemble them ourselves and have more fun DIYing, changing and also replacing bad cells ;) ! What configuration is 'better'; 4S=125Ah or 5P4S=125Ah?

That's what I'm thinking, of maybe creating a huge headroom, like using a 175Ah or 200Ah pack where I only need 125Ah, and then use a BMS like Will's that will let me stop charging it (from home a/c charger) at 70%. Then when on the water, I go into bluetooth app and set HVD at like 85% and my...
