Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger Non-Isolated for a Whole House voltage regulator.

Considering MaxxFan told me to install a buck/boost for their fan, since they can't handle higher loads, and I stated that, why would you say it's BS. I do know many Escape owners have installed buck/boosts on their MaxxFans. I think I'll just sell the Orion and install buck/boosts where...

Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger Non-Isolated for a Whole House voltage regulator.

When we fried the board in our MaxxFan they asked what voltage we're charging our batteries. We charge at 14.6. They said anything over 14.2 can fry the board. Not all appliances are good to 15v either. I have since found out standby voltage for the Orion is 1 milliamp. However, what...

Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger Non-Isolated for a Whole House voltage regulator.

I have a Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger Non-Isolated that I would like to reverse for a whole-house voltage controller running at 12.8 volts. I don't like the idea of my trailer's appliances seeing 14.6v during the day when we have solar. Will this work efficiently in our trailer, or do I need...

    Design review help, please

Both my Victron 100/20 (for the 100 watt portable) and Victron 100/30 (465 watts on the roof) have grounding screws on the box that are connected to the frame ground. Do I need them? Nope! Unless something bad happens and then YES! Enjoy, Perry

    Wiring diagram help (mostly w/fuses)

In your schematic it says you're installing a "Solar MPPT - Victron 20 amp" SCC. We have a Victron 100/20 SCC and the bus on the 100/20 is a joke and barely accepts 10 awg wire. Will had the same feeling on the 100/20 he tested. We also have a Victron 100/30 SCC that has an acceptable bus. I...

To shunt or not to shunt...

Last January something was causing our AGM batteries to get too low a voltage overnight. Our Victron BMV-712 monitor's history showed us our batteries had received 21v at some point in time. I reset the monitor and the next day it showed another 21v charge. It was intermittent and we were at...

    Inverter after shut down

We use a Blue Seas dual battery shutoff. Side 1 is hooked to our WFCO, side 2 is hooked to our inverter. When camping we use 1+2. Enjoy, Perry

To shunt or not to shunt...

As far as I'm concerned is isn't worth a tinkers damn if it doesn't keep history. We don't sit and watch the meters endlessly. The AiLi and Renogy's are only meters (I see Will finally came around and now calls the Aili a meter). Neither the AiLi or Renogy (or many other meters) would have...

Victron connect appimage - won't connect

You should have purchased the BMV-712 with the screen to view. Ours is cut into an overhead cabinet, but I use the app, so rarely use the screen. Enjoy, Perry

    Convert from FLA to LiFePo

I see the person losing my respect is you, Blackhat, and you've provided no worthwhile input. I certainly don't read elewis's posts as negatively as you. You've made your point and so has elewis33. How about both of you move on. Perry

You need to filter out what advice is valid and what isn't. I called Battborn last January and for our use they didn't believe their batteries were appropriate. Battleborn now has a heated battery, so that advice might no longer be given. I haven't regretted any question I've had here or...

Seeking advice on best way to start with new RV

Our camper came with a single 170 GoPower panel, GoPower SCC, and two 220 amp 6v AGM batteries. Our batteries failed at 90 days (replaced under warranty), so the first additional item purchased was a Victron BMV-712 to see what was really being drawn. For example, two phones charging all night...

    Convert from FLA to LiFePo

Actually the answer would be "Yup." I stated "The WFCO could probably keep your batteries at 80% or more (just an off-the-cuff estimate)" Again, that was "80% or more" and 95% is simply "more." Many charge to 100%, and for them it's a point, but I could care less if it's 95% (choose an upper...

    Alternator to battery wires

In 2004, we purchased a used Honda Odyssey to pull small campers. I used eTrailer (I think) and they provided all the wiring needed from our Odyssey battery to our WFCO along with the ability to shut off the charging when the ignition was off. We used 8 awg wire ran along the frame to an...

    Convert from FLA to LiFePo

By visiting Internet Archive Wayback Machine you could find the parameters of your WFCO charger. We purchased our camper in October 2018. Our WFCO 8955 states: 14.4 bulk for up to 4 hours, 13.6 absorption for up to 40 hours, and 13.2 float charge. It seems the WFCO 8900 series is in most...

    Single Outlet Circuit Breaker

Escape Trailer Industries used 12/2 Romex for the kitchen and 14/2 Romex for the rest of the camper. I installed a 1500 watt inverter that has built in GFCI for both outlets. I used a cut 10 awg extension cord (they're hard to find) that goes to the 12/2 Romex, spliced using Wago lever nuts...

    adding a 320w panel to a 160w system

There is no free lunch! You've already purchased one cheap controller that you're looking to replace. How much money are you going to throw away before purchasing a decent SCC? I added 300 watts ($290) to our 170 watt panel and did not have the time to add a second set of cables from the roof...

What is normal behavior for an inverter charger?

Perhaps I'm reading this wrong (I'm dyslexic), using 40% of your 340 ah's at night seems quite high for the camper in your schematic. What loads are you running at night? Enjoy, Perry

    100ah vs. 200ah

Depends on what batteries you're buying. If lead acid I would buy two 200 ah or larger 6 volts vs one 12 volt, or two 100 ah 12v batteries. 6 volt lead acid batteries are better suited for deep draws. If lithium, I'd get two 12v 200 ah batteries for redundancy, but that's just my opinion...

    Panel came loose

It's common practice on the farm to check the torqued bolts a few hours into use and re-tighten them. Most are tight on the first re-torquing, and after the second perhaps only one or two need tightening. After all the bolts are tight, remove them and install blue Loctite and torque. Even...

    Help- Victron App for dummies.

We have 465 watts on the roof. The original 170 watts was not enough many times, so we added three 100 watt panels. Wired in parallel only lost 5 watts (would have lost 65 watts in series for only 405 watts). Our 170 watt panel never got over 150-160 watts in June/July and we wanted about 100...

Victron 100/50 MPPT goes up in SMOKE

I've said this many times before on other forums: "There is no free lunch!" I wanted to purchase our Victron products from a reliable vendor who could answer questions relating to setting up and using Victron's products. After reading others experiences I purchased all our Victron products...

    Class T Fuse Sizing

Since my original post I sent back the smaller Class T fuse holder and have installed a larger holder with a 250a Class T fuse purchased from West Marine for $52 plus tax and my drive to their store. I since have purchased two backup fuses (which Murphy say's I'll never need) from Best...

All-in-one system or individual components for expedition truck

The main reasons we chose Victron was bluetooth, i.e. I can watch the charging as I'm driving down the road and if you have the BMV 712 our BMV 712, 100/20 SCC and 100/30 SCC, they all work together giving greater control and reliability. Enjoy, Perry

All-in-one system or individual components for expedition truck

There is no free lunch! We've had cheaper and there is a reason they are cheaper. We're in this game for the long haul and found out earlier that Tier 1 equipment is cheaper for the long haul. I want electrical history to help find a problem when one crops up, and one eventually will crop up...

    Silicate Salt Battery VS. Li-on

I could say similar statements about lithium batteries. They have failures too, bad cells, bad BMS, impossible to get returns when rolling your own. Then there is the current environmental concerns with lithium. If you purchase too small a set for your situation it doesn't matter if it's...

Are DC to DC chargers really necessary.

It seems like DC-DC charging is the hot ticket now. Kind of like a badge of honor. We got by with 170 watts on the roof to go with our 240 usable ah's of SiO2 batteries. OTOH, we didn't want "We got by" and installed another 300 watts on the roof. Now we can fully charge in inclement...

    Silicate Salt Battery VS. Li-on

Last February we purchased a set of 260 ah Soneil silicate-salt/lead crystal/silicon dioxide (SiO2) batteries. I believe they are all the same, just using different descriptions. I'd been looking at lead crystal batteries for years and after our AGM's failed, from a bad WFCO, decided to pull...
